I contacted Mike and it was a terrific experience from beginning to end. He spent at least 30-45 minutes of his time on the phone going over options and also some emails besides. It took awhile for the parts to come in, but once they arrived I was able to get my car into Mike quickly. After I met him in person, he showed me his shop and the parts that he would be installing. During the process, he emailed me updates with photos attached, and when he found a worn part he emailed me a photo of it and replaced it. His prices were reasonable and my car drives great. I went for an hour drive the day I got it back, and I was grinning ear to ear, like the day I first received the car almost five years ago. Oh, and he's a super nice guy. I'd give him six stars if I could.

I upped my rating to four stars only because I think he's a really good guy and I'm not trying to ruin his business with a bad review. I still don't think I'll be returning, the last few encounters have been awkward and I'd rather just move on. But I do appreciate that the owner was willing to reach out to me personally. Just be wary of other employees and do your research on part pricing. ---------------------------- Pretty bummed about my recent experiences here. I used to only deal with Gilbert, and he was amazing. Always made me feel comfortable, was very upfront about what I needed and didn't need in order to save me money. I sent everyone to this garage when they asked for recommendations. In the last year and a half or so, I've been dealing with a different younger employee. HeI've needed a lot more work done the older my car gets. I felt pressured to make unnecessary repairs in my car (even got text messages a month after telling him I couldn't afford any extra repairs, they insisted on fixing my struts). I was quoted $1200 for a recent job but had to pay $1400. That never happened with Gilbert. After that, a few days after getting my car back I had a steering issue. Felt suspicious because he had explicitly told me I might have a steering issue in the future but I had over a year before I needed to worry about it. I took the car back, and was quoted $300. I brought a knowledgeable friend with me who called him out on the repair being their fault and also on the quoted price being outrageous. We found the part for $30. My friend repaired it in a half hour. I miss Gilbert and have lost faith in this shop. Unfortunately don't think I'll be returning.

They are great at explaining what the issues are with your car, the work they plan on doing, and explaining why that work needs to be done. They are transparent. They are honest. I read the overwhelming positive reviews and a negative review and thought to try them. After having work done at Al's, I am super impressed. I can't discount what commenter Jodie K. wrote, but there's usually more than one perception of events and my experience couldn't have been better. First, they're usually open until 6pm. This is a Godsend when you're an hospital intern who has just 3 sick days to use! Anyways, I brought the vehicle in to have headlights changed and to fix a turning signal light. Al's was super professional, from the mechanics on duty to Hillary at the service desk. They took the time to show me the parts and what was wrong with them. They also clarified if I still wanted headlights replaced, because the mechanic discovered that the bulbs were perfectly fine (I appreciate that). My mom used to own this car and previous mechanics had kept replacing the headlight bulbs when the actual problem was the mount's electrical contacts not seating. Because the mount wasn't seating fully and securely, it was jarring loose with use of the car. In the short-term, the mechanic reseated the mount to show me and then recommended an inexpensive replacement mount to fix it. I ended-up paying a very reasonable price for all the work (way below what was expected). In summary, if you're looking for highly skilled, independently certified, detail-oriented, and honest people to do your car work, then try Al's. Among the best auto shops I've ever taken my car to. Consider me loyal. *Disclaimer: I have NO personal, financial, or any other conflicts of interest related to Al's. I've only recently become a customer and was in no way pressured to write this favorable review. I just appreciate really excellent service when it happens and they should be recognized.*
