During the wait for this made-to-order dish, we were brought a big salad (cold lettuce, slice cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and a generous helping of shredded cheese on top). We easily split that. The lasagna got to our table very fast even during a dinner crowd. The Nana's Homemade Lasagna with Meat Sauce ($19) arrived in a long deep bowl that was steaming hot. Her recipe is so loaded with spicy and chunky meat sauce between layers of pasta planks you'd think they's make a giant pan ahead of time. Nope! Fresh to you. Thick, filling, and loaded with hot, melted cheese overing the whole dish like a blanket of goodness. The dinner is also served with a small sliced loaf of FRESH hot bread and cold butter. There is no comparison between "just bread" and homemade bread. This loaf had a thick crunchy crust and a soft warm center. It was so good, you'll slap away the next time you get a cold, store-bought roll sneering at you from the plate. We also got the garlic knots for $7 as a starter: HOT, soft on the inside, crispy brown on the outside. And swimming in garlic butter. You know my theory on butter: you can't have too much butter, it'll fall off on its own accord if it reaches a so-called maximum. This side is served hot with a nice warm marinara. I kept the almost immediately emptied bowl for the fresh bread I knew was coming. Our waiter, Tim, noted that is a common practice by wise connoisseurs of fine dining.
