I've had a few of their items but hands down the spicy Italian sausage with peppers and onions is my absolute favorite and I love their bottled teas. Sub Cultured is a small, independent sandwich shop with a walk-up window where you place your order, some outdoor picnic benches, and a small indoor seating area. It was a particularly blustery day so we sat inside. I ordered their classic Philly sub and added hot peppers. They gave the option of jalapenos or chopped hot peppers which was nice, so I went with the latter. The ordering process was dead simple and we got some yerba mate sparkling beverages from the surprisingly wide selection of drinks they have available. Our food was delivered to the table a reasonable amount of time later. The rolls they use for their subs are absolutely perfect: fresh and pillowy, but with a little chew. The steak in the Philly was cooked perfectly and very juicy. With the peppers (both standard bell peppers as well as the hot peppers I added), onions, and provolone, it made for a delicious, drippy mess of a sandwich. My only complaint, and this is a minor one, was the portion size. I guess I expected a larger sandwich for the price based on pictures I'd seen on Yelp. Two medium-sized subs and two drinks with a nominal tip came to almost $30, which was rather expensive for what you'd get. My wife got a portobello mushroom sub that had peppers, onions, spinach, provolone, and a garlic aioli. She gave me a few bites and it was really delicious; the portobello really gave it a meaty texture and even non-vegetarians would be satisfied. Overall this was a delicious sandwich from an independent location I'm happy to support and will definitely check out again, but will have more realistic expectations for what I'm getting for the money I'm putting down. read more

This sandwich shop definitely has a reputation and boy do they live up to it. Just about every sandwich I have had has been amazing. You cannot go wrong with any choice and don't forget about the poutine. Most places outside of Canada just cannot get it right. Fries, Gravy, Cheese Curds (yes curds, not just balls of mozzarella). Sub Cultured does it right. The subs speak for themselves. Fresh bread and quality meats make for a great reasonably priced meal. I generally go for The Hitman, The Godfather, or The Caswell. Occasionally, I will go for The Philly or Bulgogi Hoagie, but I have another place I go to for the best cheesesteaks in Jax. Those 2 are good, but I am a Philly Cheesesteak purist and am hard pressed to find one that even comes close to the real thing outside of Philly. Sub Cultured stands out when it comes to customer service. They always have a chill vibe with good tunes blasting. I personally recommend the online order system as it has never failed me, and my subs have always been ready within 15 - 20 minutes. Shout out to Sub Cultured for consistently doing a great job. As you know, I travel somewhat often to Jacksonville. I've driven past this hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop dozens of times and every time I actually commit to going it's on a Sunday, which they are closed. Yesterday, I was in the neighborhood and FINALLY sandwich enlightenment was achieved. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, but I went with their take on a Philly. With the addition of sweet and hot peppers. So freakin' good. There's my culinary critique for you. But in all seriousness, the Yelp community has hit the nail on the head. This place rocks. The food is cooked to order and the service was spot on. The meat was thin, tender and loaded with flavor. Throw some cheese whiz on there and you're sitting in a higher realm. Already one of my favorite spots for lunch here. Like any five star sandwich joint, they use a different bread and method to accommodate each sandwich. The meat in the cheesesteak has so much juicy flavor, it's almost pungent and confused my taste buds for a second. The cuban is expertly pressed, of course, to have that perfect crisp. Personally, I would prefer a little more pickle, but that's about it. The Godfather has the ideal mix of that cured salami flavor, veggies, and bread. They have a couple vegetarian options too. Limited parking, walk up and order. Cute potted plants, picnic tables outside, and small seating area inside. They also have a highchair The guys were very friendly. We knew what we wanted so we ordered the bulgogi hoagie, a Korean style cheesesteak. Really delicious. Very saucy and cooked perfectly. It was a little different having cheese with bulgogi but it worked. Rolls are from Cinottis, which is always a win. If you are in the Mayport area or plan to head to Hanna park, grab a sub. Overall solid sandwich with generous quantity. I got the west coast Philly and friend got the Polish sausage sandwich. Both had a good portion of savory meat and fresh veggies. The large fries was also perfect for 2 grown men. They have a great ranch, sour cream dip for the fries that was a great compliment. It can be easy to miss the parking entrance as the place is counter service outside with a small outside and inside seating area. You will see a couple picnic tables and some cars right next to them. That's the parking lot! You can also park in the shopping center next door and walk over if parking is tight. Some people also parked across the street at the religious building. This is definitely a step up from Firehouse subs or other chain restaurants. While not a revelation inspiring or life changing sub, this would be my sub place if I lived and worked in Mayport. They are military friendly and have military Tuesdays with 15% discount! read more

What a find!!! I was visiting my family in Jacksonville and came across this place on Yelp. Apparently they are well known for their food truck outside Home Depot and now they have a walk up window at Mayport Rd. and Donner (behind Nick the Greek). We ordered the ultimate Philly which is made w shaved hot or sweet Italian sausage and added onions, peppers, and provolone cheese. It was so awesome! I also got the Sweet Caprese which was much smaller than the philly (like a normal grilled cheese sandwich size) and super tasty. The menu looked so good. Next time I would check out their poutine and also their salads--had a great looking one w craisins and goat cheese. Also, the employees were SO friendly and helpful w the menu. Someone ordered this for lunch and I requested the Cuban. It was huge and so delicious. I am not a big fan of mustard, but the mustard on the Cuban was different. They don't skimp on the good stuff here. We came for lunch after going by here often. Long story short we ordered 5 sandwiches, fiesta fries and pizza fries. All of the sandwiches are equally delicious. Comparing the western cheesesteak to the Cuban, they were both great. The fries were both delicious and filling, I ate the pizza fries by myself and it was more than filling. For all of that food we only waited about 20 minutes and it was delicious. The guys who work there are friendly and extremely nice. The food is extremely heavy and after eating here we all felt like crap but it was worth it. read more

Really good and flavorful sandwiches. The bulgogi is so delicious and the Cuban has the perfect amount of pickles and mustard. Even their bread tastes great which is because it comes from a local bakery, cinnottis, if I'm not mistaken. I opted for the extra meat option this time on my bulgogi sub and was really disappointed that it was the exact same size and amount as the first time I got it. Overall really good sub joint. However I cannot give it 5 start for one very simple reason, I placed my order online, ordered 3 subs all Italian Sausage, all had garlic Aioli, and onion, and 1 also had lettuce, Pickles and Tomatoes. The last one didn't have the lettuce, Pickle and Tomatoes. So even tho the staff was great, and the food was 10/10, I didn't get my food the way I ordered it. Awful customer service. The cashier was incredibly rude. While I waited 40 minutes for two subs, I witnessed her have a crappy attitude with multiple customers. So when I asked after 40 minutes how much longer our order would take, I didn't expect her to tell me I'd 'just have to wait'. Needless to say she chose to make a scene and attempt to embarrass me when I asked for a refund. Whoever owns the place might want to consider hiring new staff. read more

This place is amazing ! What a treasure on mayport ! Called sub cultured this evening and placed an order to go . Based off the Yelp reviews I chose to order " The Godfather " which is like an Italian sub . It has fresh red onion , tomatoes , salami , cheese and lettuce topped with olive oil & salt and pepper ! Mmmmmhmm. I also ordered a small order of fries . They said the order would be ready for pick up in 10 min . ( they also have the potential to do delivery too ! Just FYI) Anyhow, once I arrived I was kindly greeted . I love the customer care they have here. It is genuine and I always appreciate them . As for the food, well , where do I begin . The ingredients are such great quality . I honestly think you can't go wrong with whatever you choose to order . But, don't forget to grab one of their sodas on your way out . I am not a soda girl but I always grab a soda from here because they are made with all natural came sugar and taste wonderful. So basically , if you haven't been here , make it a point to stop by !
