Hm, I have only been here once but I had a totally satisfying and pleasant experience - I am surprised to see how many poor reviews there are! I went on Christmas eve for a blowout and my stylist was Heather, who was lovely. I decided while she was doing my hair that I wanted some curls, and she changed the order to include that with no drama at all, and otherwise did a lovely job on my hair that lasted several days. The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is because the receptionist totally ignored me when I arrived. As in, she did not even look up from what she was doing to acknowledge my presence. I waited maybe two minutes standing right at the counter and looking directly at her, before one of the stylists stopped working on their client to come over and find out when my appt was. Seriously, management, fire this incompetent woman who makes your whole business look bad! What a terrible first impression. But keep Heather, she was great and I will definitely return to have her do my hair again. read more

This place is a joke. It's tiny and cramped. The so-called comp beverages they offer are served in tiny plastic cups. The receptionist is a moron and then let's get to the actual hair styling. I don't even know how the stylist who did my blow out is even still employed. His name was Saul. He was rude and had zero talent. It really seemed like he has no clue what he was doing. My hair was terrible, frizzy and the way he styled my front layers looked like a hair do from the 80s. Just awful. He needs to find another profession. Unfortunately, maybe the other stylists are better, but after this experience, I question the quality and talent of the other stylists at a salon that would employ him. I'll stick to the dry bar. In response To "Claudie J's" comment: NICE TRY! You're clearly trying to save face because your salon is awful and gets terrible reviews. Saul was the stylist that did my hair and it was terrible. I wrote a review about 5 years ago, and my review hasn't changed...only gotten better! I can't express how much I love and trust this place. I have a LOT of hair, and it is unruly, difficult, curly. Angie knows what to do with it, every time and I barely have to explain what I want. She has taken the time to know me as a person, not a client and I really appreciate that. My style lasts about 4-5 days, even a full week if I do some touch ups!! Amazing!!! Great place, great people, great service. read more

I wanted to like this place. I REALLY did. I booked not 1, but 5 appointments with Stylingbar, only to cancel the rest of them after my first one. I went in on a Sunday afternoon and Saul did my hair. It seemed quite slow, but that seems normal for a Sunday. I showed him a picture of a yelp-er whose hair he did that I liked. The shampoo started off great, but that's about all that I enjoyed. Once Saul got started on drying and styling my hair, he was REALLY rough. He kept yanking at my hair and had no neatness in his technique at all. I've been going to my stylist at Toni & Guy for YEARS and never has she dealt with my hair this way.... NO one has ever been this rough with my hair actually. It was quite agonizing. Whenever I caught a glance at myself in the mirror, I could just see myself grimacing. IT HURT! Not only was he yanking my hair, but he kept burning my scalp during the blowdry. Isn't this what the salon is supposed to be good at? Sebastian came by to help, and he was actually wonderful. Neither guy talked very much (though I can't get mad about that... the blow dry part makes it kind of hard to hear anything). There was not one way though that Saul did anything to try and make me a happy customer. He was stand-offish, rough, and quite personally I believe he's very inexperienced. I got charged extra for "cosmo curls" though I told him I just wanted volume... I didn't care when I got to the register, because quite frankly I just wanted to get out of there. I did tip him... though I regret it. My hair looked good when I was leaving, but quickly went flat within 15 minutes. I was extremely disappointed as I specified that I needed my hair to last for HOURS not MINUTES like any normal person would want. It's a few days later now, and my usually silky hair is SO damaged. I'm not even sure if he put heat protectant in my hair as he didn't once go through the products he was using on me. I'm very disappointed with this salon and I would NEVER recommend this to anyone I know or work with. I'm going to do the remainder of my 4 hair appointments at a different salon in Uptown (DryBar). I would NEVER return to Stylingbar! What a joke! read more

I am a loyal Styling Bar customer. My appointments are consistently on time. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. I always try to get Angie. She is a good listener and always ensures that I am perfectly satisfied. Robin, at the front desk is always quick to please by offering a champagne or an espresso. Saul, the manager, is great at suggestions that get me out of my comfort zone and keep me looking young and fashionable. If you have trouble parking -- go to the garage, they validate! If I could give them zero stars I would. Here on Yelp under the services tab they clearly state that they do hair cuts. When I called to ask for pricing the receptionist was like, "Umm..." And immediately placed me on hold without informing me. When she came back on the line she said, "uh we don't do haircuts here. Well we do but um we only have one lady that does and she only does her clients or referrals from her clients." I immediately ended the call. Never knew of a business to turn away business. I purchased a Groupon for a shampoo, flirtini deep condition and a blowout. I was very excited to try this as I LOVE a great blowout. The flirtini deep condition was incredible (although they forgot to apply it at first and we had to go back to the wash bowl). It smelled amazing and left my hair really soft. The blowout, however, was AWFUL! I came in with hair that had a little body and some soft waves to it. I asked for BIG hair with lots of body and curls/waves.....what I walked out with was super straight hair with ZERO body, not even a curl on the ends. I had to come home and re-do my hair entirely. I work near this location and rely on them for a perfect wash&style whenever I have a special event or whenever I can afford it. Lana and LeighAnn are both great. All stylists train with the owners every week so they ensure reliable speed and results. They also have their own line of products which are naturally scented and sulfate-free, color-safe. They even have children's services and I have seen all ages, 3 yr-old girls to 85 yr-old women, and their hair always looks good. I have been going here once a week for almost a year. I need a professional blow dry and this is the closest blow dry bar to my office. The place has some real problems and I believe it comes from the lady at the top. I have had so many great stylist, but a few months later they are either fired or have quit. I come from a service background with the philosophy that the customer is number 1, that is whom you are there to please. I have never been treated that way or seen others treated that way. Today was my final visit, as I have been insulted for the last time. I'm sorry to leave Sebastian,( my present stylist ), as he is good. I bought a groupon. Showed up with straight hair. They wash my hair and ask me how I want it styled. I asked for curls like you would get in a proper blowout. They proceed to blow my hair straight... Exactly like they way I looked when I showed up. I remind them I want romantic curls and they then tell me I have to pay more. Call me crazy but why would you get a blowout for something you can easily. Do yourself. Customer service sucks here and they are NOT blow out experts. Do not go here! I work in the beauty industry as a cosmetics product specialist, so I like to give my clients tips on small self-esteem boosts or midweek pick me ups. Feeling beautiful is vital to looking beautiful. I purchased the Groupon to try the service out to see if I'd give a recommendation to my clients. I invited my best friend to try it out with me before a much needed ladies luncheon. I asked them if they would seat us together if possible in my special instructions, but it was evidently not possible or just wasn't communicated properly Online booking was simple and straight-forward. You do have to put a credit card on file to do this. That's standard with most speciality salons. Be mindful; if you're coming from North Houston, there is a ton of construction, so it made me a little late. Plan accordingly. The salon itself is very chic in appearance. I loved the decor... The TVs kind of took away from that though. I may be a stickler for organization, but I noticed that there was some general housekeeping that needed to be done. Jose did a great job on my hair; Sebastian did a great job on her hair. There's nothing life-changing about a blow dry style, but if you're not going to have time to run home for a hairstyle change before a last minute date; if you've got a last minute business dinner; if you've just had a long day-- this is your one-stop shop. And, it delivers. There are packages for purchase, which no one tried to sell to me; I would've considered it as I've got a lot of events coming up for the holidays. I think this salon needs more product education for stylists. Reviewing some methods for speaking to clients is in order. Neither gentleman stylists were rude, but there were lulls in conversation on my friend's part with Sebastian. Those two things can be smoothed over with more experience and some solid coaching. I looked over their entire website, and there's nothing on there about "Cash Only" tips. It wasn't on my Groupon as fine print either. According to my friend, the receptionist was coached on the way she spoke to me (I didn't actually find it offensive), but it would've been courteous had she taken the time to walk me back to it. Until my friend, who finished before I did, asked for something to drink, I was not offered. I feel like the receptionist should be socializing more with guests sitting at the bar if that's the schtick they're going for. Perhaps my biggest issue with this salon and for the minority of salons that does this is charging for conditioner when their blow out [no extras] is pretty expensive as is. It's pretty standard that if you strip my hair of its natural oils, you should replace it with a conditioner. Forcing people to purchase the conditioning treatment at a whopping twenty dollar add-on is a surcharge that won't get my repeat business as someone in the chair. I need my hair conditioned, but I don't always need a treatment. Since I'm someone with textured hair, I only need to wash my hair one to two times a week, so it needs to be conditioned every time. I'd rather use a place that meets my needs, because $55 dollars for a blow out is something I'd rather put toward my $65 monthly haircut. That being said, it does have its merits. And, it would be a lovely place to take a young girl for her birthday or a fun activity. read more

Nice in that I didn't have to dry my own hair. Terrible in that the girl drying my hair said to me, "I had a pair of those boots years ago. I didn't know they were back in style." She was rude the entire time. She never offered me anything to drink. My cousin's stylist told her she was short and needed to sit "taller". What? I am a regular at Styling Bar. I really enjoy coming here. Its convenient hours (late hours) and their flexiblity is big plus. You can make appts on-line and it works well even on your phone. I use all the stylists they are pretty good but the best have to be Saul and Sebastion. Saul gives you perfect volume and hair flip and Sebastion is a master at the braid and style. I went here after being in town for a wedding. Overall I had a not so great experience. Front desk staff was super friendly and welcoming. We were offered champagne after arriving early. I was taken to the sink after waiting about 15 minutes after my scheduled start time. Another friend waited even longer. The woman who did my hair was obviously running behind and made no effort to hide it. She said she didn't have enough time to do the hair style I asked for so I picked something else. Then while blowing out my hair, she did not blow out the back, only the front. She did a rough blow dry job on the back using just her hands and the blow dryer then curled that portion. I was not happy with the way the front looked (she didn't show me the back) and told her. She shrugged saying she thought it looked good and added, "I don't know what to tell you." I was a little worried after reading multiple bad reviews on here especially after they called me in the morning and said their system had double booked and they wondered if I could come in early. It wasn't a problem for me to do that and I was pleasantly surprised. The receptionist greeted me right away, I waited maybe 2 minutes before my stylist came and got me. She did a great job of holding a conversation while she shampooed my hair. I was offered a drink while she was working on my blowout. She listened to what I wanted and it turned out pretty well. The only complaint I have is that my curls did not hold well, by the time I got home the curls in the front were already out, the back held better but overall it lost its style quickly, maybe stronger hairspray would have helped. Bought a Groupon for a blow out service. I have short hair...but I don't think the stylist had any experience blowing out short hair. Hey, I'm from Texas and like big hair and all...but my hair looked like my Mom's back in the 60's! I had a business lunch after my hair appointment, but there wasn't anyway I was going with my hair looking like it did...so I had to borrow the stylist's brush and restyle it myself. I came here with my friends to get our hair done for an event, and I don't think any of us will be coming back. I asked for a soft wavy hair style, and instead I got a curly frizzy hair do. I had two people come fix my bangs, because the girl who did my hair was trying to curl them away from my face, and it did not look right. I really appreciate the people who came to 'fix' my hair, but if I'm paying $40 for a hairstyle, it shouldn't need that. read more

I was getting my hair done and the way he speaks about his co workers is upright disrespectful and just rude. He sits there and bullies them, and it's not in a joking manner. You can tell it hurts every single one of these girls. You should be ashamed having an employee like him around your salon. The saddest part is that he's the oldest!!!! This place is a hit most of the time with their blowouts. But today was a fail. My stylist seemed like she had no clue as to how to do a blowout. I told her I wanted a blowout with natural waves. Instead I got really big hair with creases for curls. And the whole time she was aggressively pulling and tugging on my hair. I am not tender headed in the least bit but this was way over the top. On top of that she kept blasting my scalp with the blow dryer! To the point that it was burning my scalp! The pulling was the entire time and the burning happened at least 3 or more times, which she apologized when she saw that I pulled away. I wish I had gotten her name but I didn't. In any case I shall be redoing my do to make it look like what I want. Waste of time and money. Also have tour staff not to complain in front of customers about how bad the supply room smells. Unfortunately this time I had to cancel an appointment I thought it would be ok to cancel over the phone since I made an appointment over the phone. However as-the man who picked up the phone explained it can only be done via email. The problem I had that he was rude, condescending and trying to mimic the way I speak. Approximately 2 years ago, I had a very unpleasant "waiting" experience a few times in a row and I stopped going to this place and also shared my negative review here. After a while, I heard about my friend's positive experience on Saul's keratin treatment and made an appointment with him and I was really pleased -and I even shared my earlier negative experience story with them :) In any case, I decided to keep going (last two months) as it is at very convenient location for me. Oh, well... I just called them to make another appointment and very strangely were told there is no available appointment for me. I tried to understand the details and poor girl on the phone simply told me the owner said due to the my 2 years old negative review, they will not provide me any service, anymore. I was simply speechless. I am again not even sharing my experience with their professional product (Saul did a good job and others also did ok with simple blowout processes) but unbelievable professional attitude by the owners! read more

What a disaster! We came to Stylingbar because of very favourable reviews from couple of my friends. Unfortunately, the service was below any expectations. We asked for a simple pony tail with curled hair for a theatrical photo session for my 7 year old daughter, and I didn't expect any problems with it. There were more than plenty. I specifically asked for a ponytail and curls to stay put for at least half a day but the pony tail didn't hold up even for half an hour. It started to loosen even in the car, without even touching it, and moved to the side in less than half an hour because It was done very untidy and very loosely. The curls started to uncurl right away, and now, just 40 min later, there are no curls, just a few strange waves. On the top of it, the service took over 45 min. I would redo everything myself, but there is no time now, we went straight to the general rehearsal. So, truly, I am quite shocked. The only highlight were couple of staff members who were very friendly and nice. If not for them, I wish I could give this service "0": they messed up a general rehearsal and a photo session for a play that my daughter was preparing for over a year.
