We hired Duke from Style Matters for our August 2018 wedding. In short, if you don't want to read this whole review - hire him!! Duke did a fantastic job and the music was executed perfectly! As a bride, I didn't want to have to worry about vendors - I did not have to worry at all about Style Matters or Duke! In 2017 we met with Spencer at their event space to discuss our wedding, and Spencer was professional and able to address all our questions and ensure that we would have great music that day. We felt very comfortable with Style Matters after the initial meeting. We attended the spring showcase in spring 2018 and were impressed with Duke's set, so we requested him when it came time to select a DJ. We met with Duke about three weeks before the wedding to discuss what we wanted for the wedding. We had previously filled out the questionnaire from Style Matters, and also include an excel with additional songs. Duke was professional and immediately understood what we were going for. He really listened to our likes and dislikes. Duke was responsive on emails we sent back and forth discussing some minor details (including a musical surprise during the maid of honor's speech). On the wedding day, our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception took place in three different rooms at the same venue, all back-to-back. To begin with, we needed music for the 30 minutes prior to the ceremony while guests found their seats - we told Duke the vibe we were going for (acoustic classic rock and indie tunes) and let him select the songs. There were three separate songs for the bridal party processional, the bride's processional, and the bride and groom recessional. Two of these needed the first ten seconds or so cut out, and Duke edited these perfectly. Then, we gave Duke some loose ideas and a few suggested songs for cocktail hour and dinner music during the reception, and he filled in the gaps. I loved all the music I heard during those times! For the bridal party and bride and groom entrance to the reception, Duke announced everyone and pronounced their names perfectly and without problems. The songs and intros for those entrances were well-timed and went flawlessly. There were three speakers, and they were all properly introduced, and the microphone worked without a problem. My sister, the maid of honor, incorporated a song into her speech as a surprise to me. My husband worked with Duke to coordinate it, and the song was played at exactly the right time and everyone loved it! We asked Duke to edit the parent and bride/groom dance songs a little to cut down the time - he did this perfectly and there was no awkward cut off, just a nice fade out that sounded natural. As for the reception songs - we were told by multiple people that it was the best wedding music they ever heard - one guy commented that we played nothing but "stone cold grooves" - I can't think of a better compliment than that! Duke played all of our "must plays" and almost everything else we requested! He also knew how to keep the dance floor full - we gave him license to pick up the beat and pick his own songs according to the mood - he has a great sense for this. Also, I previously requested that in the middle of the dancing, that I get the microphone to wish my sister-in-law a happy birthday. I stopped by the DJ booth at 10:00, and Duke handed me the microphone. I was able to wish her a happy birthday, and then Duke played "Birthday" by The Beatles as I had requested. It went perfectly! Everyone danced the whole night and had a blast, which was the most important thing to me! Thanks to Duke and Style Matters for supplying the perfect music for our wedding! read more

Following suit with mostly all of the reviews on this site...our wedding was also a HUGE success, thanks to the efforts and the laid-back, easy-going mentality of the people at Style Matters. Our initial meeting with Spencer was extremely professional, and he had a unique quality of making this process fun, entertaining and purely enjoyable. We wanted to steer clear of the traditional hokiness of most DJ companies that are available and they went above and beyond our expectations. Spencer met every one of our requests and offered suggestions to assist with the planning process. Every small tweak and suggestion we had, Spencer greeted them with open arms. We walked away with the confidence needed to move forward with the selection of our DJ for the night...and things only got better. Now, on to NOAH. After our initial meeting with Noah, we knew that we had selected the right person to provide the soundtrack to make our evening as memorable as possible for us and our guests. Noah took our suggestions with sincerity, and we can honestly say that he implemented each of our suggestions into our evening at the appropriate time. He even went as far as to create a Frankie Vallie mix as a tribute for our recently deceased Uncle, and played the mix at exactly the right time of the evening, and set the night off on the right foot immediately. Noah nailed all of our brief announcements, and spun tunes that kept the dance floor packed ALL evening! We cannot begin to express how happy we are that we not only chose Style Matters for our musical entertainment for the evening, but that Noah was our guy. He went above and beyond for us, and we cannot thank him enough. We received countless compliments throughout the entire evening, and we are STILL receiving compliments to this day about Noah, and the skills he showcased that evening. Spencer, Noah and Style Matters are first class, and they come HIGHLY recommended from us. We are still flying high from our wedding, and it was over a month ago. We listen to the MP3 of our music from our cocktail hour on a daily basis (which we highly recommend purchasing...because these guys are that good) and we have a date set up to catch Noah in his element at another location in the city. In addition to an amazing evening, we also gained a friend in Noah. In conclusion, our evening would not have been what it was without the crew at Style Matters. Especially Noah. Search no further....Style Matters is where it's at!! read more

Music was my number one priority for our 5/13/16 wedding and so I did much research to find the right fit. We came across Style Matters and everything I read and listened to seemed to gel with our vision for the big day. We initially met with Spencer at Ovation (their headquarters and super-slick venue) and after we submitted our questionnaire and tastes he suggested we pair up with Dustin. Right away I felt a great musical connection with him and was impressed by his broad and deep knowledge of all the artists and genres I'd selected for our wedding. My goal was to remove any trace of 'Top-40' wedding staples to encourage our friends to the dance floor yet create a comfortable atmosphere for our extended families. Dustin nailed it. We played B-side classics along with a bunch of unexpected hip-hop and forgotten pop favorites. I could see the look of surprise/approval on the faces of our guests as he flawlessly transitioned with smooth mixes from one song to the next. It truly felt like we were on the dance floor of a club and not a cookie-cutter wedding. Dustin was sure to hit on all the songs that I expressed great interest in hearing, and he sprinkled in some cuts I hadn't heard (which I encouraged him to do in our initial meeting). People came up to me throughout the night and following the wedding with such praise for our wedding music, it was unreal! I think everyone believes they have the best music at their wedding, but this was a point I was so concerned about, and the second he began to spin I took a deep breath and knew that the music was going to be tremendous all night. Lastly, I wanted to point out how professional and communicative Dustin was throughout the process. He is great at responding to emails and calls; he is thoughtful, accommodating, and understands the major role he plays on your most special day. He was absolutely one of our easiest and most referable vendors at our wedding and I couldn't be happier about his contribution to our big day. If you want someone that can take on any music styling you're planning for your wedding day, Dustin and Style Matters are your dream team. read more

WARNING: Style Matters Failed to Deliver My experience with Style Matters was deeply disappointing and fell far short of their promises. The Promise vs. Reality After an extensive phone consultation with Spencer and completing a detailed questionnaire, I clearly communicated our vision for our wedding DJ. Spencer confidently assured me he had the perfect match for our event. Unfortunately, what we received was the complete opposite of what we requested. What we asked for: A highly skilled, charismatic DJ with creative mixing abilities and exceptional turntablist skills who could energize our celebration. What we got: A DJ (Margot/Diskokitty) who delivered a lackluster performance with below-average technical skills and zero enthusiasm as an MC. The Impact on Our Wedding Day The DJ's performance was so noticeably poor that multiple guests approached us asking, "What's wrong with the DJ? It's like she doesn't even want to be here." This was embarrassing and became a distraction on what should have been our perfect day. Honestly, I could have achieved the same result by pressing play on a Spotify playlist--and saved thousands of dollars in the process. Poor Communication and Planning Beyond the disappointing performance, Spencer's communication throughout the planning process was untimely and disorganized, creating unnecessary stress during an already demanding time. Broken Promises Style Matters markets themselves with bold claims: "25 of the most talented DJs this city has ever seen." -- They are not. "We will create a unique and incredibly enjoyable experience" -- They did not. "There's simply too much (music) out there to waste people's time on the stuff they've heard a million times before" -- We received exactly that: a generic, cookie-cutter wedding DJ set with zero creativity. Final Thoughts While we managed to salvage our celebration and create beautiful memories with our loved ones, the DJ performance was undeniably one of the lowest points of our special day. Save yourself the disappointment and look elsewhere for your wedding entertainment. read more

I can't say enough about Spencer and Noah. They were truly incredible to work with for our wedding. I would recommend Style Matters for your wedding in a heartbeat. I promise, you won't regret it! Spencer was always on top of things and runs a top notch business. When I told him we had been to a wedding (Style Matters had played) back in November where we thought the music was amazing, he researched and found the dj that rocked the party, Noah. Spencer's follow up was incredible on every aspect of preparing for the big day. He even wrote us a personal email to congratulate us on our wedding. The customer service was amazing. Noah (Weaponry) was our dj and should be yours if you want your dance floor packed all night long. Here are some things that sum up how Noah helped make our wedding day better: -he was very organized and went over timelines and song requests in detail with me to make sure he had it just as the bride & groom wanted -he played the music for our actual ceremony and his timing for each song was perfectly on point. It was almost a little crazy how perfect the timing was for the entrance of the bride and our recessional. -he played awesome, contemporary music before and after the ceremony which many guests told me it was appropriate, and got them itching to party because it was so cool (Mumford & Sons, Florence & the Machine, etc.) -he was dressed cool and hip and looked the part for someone who is going to play appropriate music and at exceptionally appropriate timing. My best man came up to me and said, "This guy just looks cool. He's going to crush it tonight, isn't he?" -as soon as the traditional wedding dances were over, people literally ran out onto the dance floor and stayed there all night. I couldn't leave because every time I stepped out to grab a drink or chat, a new hit would come on and I had to get back to groove it to Noah's next awesome selection! As you can see, I am a huge fan of this company. If the other djs are anything like Noah, you are guaranteed an incredible time! read more

I don't really know what else to say other than what everyone already put up. It took me so long to post (wedding was 9/26), but it seems everybody has pretty much said it all. But I will still say what I have to say. First of all we had a somewhat unsual set up. Our ceremony was outdoors at a historical mansion, the dinner was inside in a dining room downstairs, and dancing was going to be upstairs. Spencer took care of music for all three locations and made sure everyone actually stayed to dance upstairs. He also helped make the rest of my wedding run smoother as well. When the caterer was nagging me incessantly about getting everyone to sit down, Spencer took care of it. When the caterer and my mother were stressing out about whether or not it was time to start moving people upstairs for the first dance, Spencer pointed out that everyone was mingling and enjoying themselves outside and he thought it would be a good idea not to rush them upstairs. AMAZING idea. I actually managed to converse which each and every one of our guests because of this. We had a lot of people travel long distances so this was very important. When we actually did move upstairs it went very smoothly. As soon as the first dances were over every able-bodied person was on the dance floor having an amazing time. The dance floor was packed until the very last song, and Spencer played everything we wanted to hear! Including Devo! Two weeks after the wedding I still have friends and family calling to let us know that our wedding was the best wedding was the best wedding the have been to, and this is in large part thanks to Spencer. Everybody there had a blast including us. Oh and my mom who probably hasn't danced since the 70s danced all night! Spencer clearly knows crowds and is an excpert at creating an amazing time. I cannot say enough good things about him. (oh and for the caliber of DJ's at Style Matters their price is ridiculously reasonable) read more

My experience with Style Matters was top-notch. Right off the bat the head honcho Spencer & I clicked. It was like when Bill & Ted meet Rufus. I just knew this dude honed some serious knowledge. Music was a really big deal to me for our wedding and wanted to stray away from any pop music. I prepared some notes for Spencer and even 4 months later he remembered exactly what we talked about and gave me reassurance before the big day. So Spencer matched us up with Noah aka "Weaponry" @DJWeap (give him a follow). Spencer sent me numerous mixes that Noah had done and really held my hand about a week before because I was adamant about the style of music I wanted to hear. Spencer even went so far as to say Weaponry may have more knowledge of obscure records than he does .......... Rufus's Rufus (mind_blown). Then Noah reached out and we met for coffee about 10 days before the wedding talking about music and him feeling me out. We shared similar music tastes and he was a super cool dude. So I felt like I was in good hands. Weaponry came to the venue the day before the wedding and walked through with the owner (whose a friend of mine) and the owner was even singing his praises the next day. So Weaponry F'n killed it! The music selection was completely different than any wedding I've ever been too. I don't think one person took a seat after dinner. He catered to us the whole time ...... and he was having a blast too which is always contagious. I've been listening to my cocktail hour mix non-stop and have shared it with numerous friends who've requested copies from the night. There are friends who couldn't make it to the celebration whom have told me how amazing they heard the music was. Seriously, I'm so happy how our wedding working out. Our objective was to have a killer party and ensure everyone had a good time. Weaponry was the catalyst for the whole evening and I'll be forever grateful! read more

You honestly don't need to look anywhere else. Just hire StyleMatters. They are awesome. I reached out to StyleMatters because I'm hispanic but my husband is American, so we wanted a mix of all kinds of music at our wedding - rap, country, pop, salsa, merengue, etc. We hired Stylermatters because of their experiences (all have been Dj'ing since they were young and all have DJ'ed various types of weddings), their passion for music, and their dedication to their skill. Spencer is very easy to work with - I can be excessive with emailing and having alot of questions, but he always responded promptly and answered my questions. He also genuinely cared about our wedding; with some vendors that you meet, its very apparent that they just want to get your business because they want the money and so forth...... I felt that Spencer took a real interest into our wedding and wanted to give us the best. After discussing with Spencer what we wanted musically for our wedding, he paired as with Dustin (DJ Mr. D.) around the 3 month mark. Then from that point on, we just worked with Dustin on the specifics and such. To start off, Dustin and StyleMatters was THE BEST MONEY SPENT FOR OUR WEDDING. He took what we wanted and trully made it a reality. We seriously spent the entire night on the dance floor; even my husband who barely ever dances when we are out, was dancing up a storm. Dustin also has great mixing skills - he blends one song into the next, so there was never a pause or dull moment. He is seriously a music genius. Our wedding was over a month ago, and we are still receiving compliments on the music and dancing from that night. If I could have Dustin come to every party, gathering, etc, we totally would.... read more

If you have found yourself on this page looking for a DJ for your wedding or event - don't leave. Don't look for anywhere else. Book Travas TODAY. Style Matters was recommended to us by our wedding planner for our October wedding and we loved everything about our experience. As a company they have it all figured out - they invite you to their beautiful space to get to know you better and then they pair you with a DJ. We trusted Style Matters because our wedding planner spoke so highly of them, but we could have never anticipated how incredible Travas would be. We met with him at our favorite neighborhood bar a few nights before the wedding and he understood what we wanted RIGHT away. Music was so important to us - having a wild dance party was one of our main objectives of the evening, but we also didn't want to alienate our older guests. We also wanted the music throughout the cocktail hour and dinner to be as amazing as the dance party. Travas played favorite songs of ours that we hadn't even mentioned to him. We expressed the feeling and vibe we wanted for each section of the evening and he absolutely nailed it - and transitioned from one part to the next seamlessly and built momentum until the dance party erupted. And anyone who thinks to fade Robyn's "Dancing on My Own" into Whitney Houston's "Dance with Somebody" clearly has a gift. Months later I still can't believe the HUGE role he played in the success of our wedding. I don't doubt that other Style Matters DJs are also fantastic, but Travas is probably the best DJ I have ever and will ever hear. The music at our wedding was seriously SO impressive. I would give more than 5 stars if possible. read more

DJ Andrew Pascale is a true professional in the way he carries himself and has amazing talent with music. My wife and I were so impressed and happy with the music sets during the cocktail hour, introductions, dinner and dancing. He was very accommodating of our thoughts on the type of music we wanted to hear throughout the night during the different sections of the entire reception. The amount of incredible feedback we received in regards to the music is proof of what I said above about Andrew. I can't forget to mention about being there on the dance floor and watching so many people, ranging from young kids up to grandparents, having a great time. One example to illustrate the talent of Andrew is from the introduction portion. My wife and I had a specific vision of how it would play out, and it would all take place during a single song. Because the timing of when each pair got introduced took longer than we expected, Andrew was able to loop it back various times without any issues in how the music sounded, so myself and wife could be introduced at the exact second of the chosen intro song. We were so appreciative of how he handled that, because the introduction was something I personally was most excited about. Style Matters DJs was wonderful to deal with. We did basically everything through Spencer before we got confirmed to have Andrew as our DJ. The annual showcase the firm hosted in early 2019 was a great way for my wife and I to see all the DJs they have. We obviously ended up with Andrew Pascale, but that was not the easiest decision, because there are so many talented DJs . read more

We booked Style Matters, specifically the Orchard Lounge trio (Spencer Lokken, Bethany Lokken and Ben Levin), for our wedding on 9.4.2021 and it could not have been a better experience! Months before the wedding we connected with Spencer and immediately got a great vibe from him. He wanted to understand exactly what we were looking for and also wanted to get to know us as a couple. As the wedding date approached he provided a comprehensive questionnaire and connected with us a few more times to ensure everything was buttoned up. We had them do our ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, ceremony and then after party (at a separate location) and man did they deliver! All five of those "events" has much different vibes and they crushed it. Spencer also MC'd the entire day and kept us tracking to the schedule (no small task) in tandem with our day of coordinator. They were adaptable and flexible especially when things didn't go as planned (weather). We are so grateful we booked Style Matters for our wedding. They defined the day for us from beginning to end. The #1 compliment we got on our wedding was how great the DJ trio was. They were such a pleasure to work with and above all else, just generally amazing people. They did everything with a smile on their face and brought nothing but great vibes. They also traveled out of state for our wedding (in Cincinnati Ohio). All in all, we want to thank Spencer, Bethany and Ben for everything! We cannot recommend them enough. You will not find a better DJ group for your wedding, that's a fact. We will definitely work with them again in the future! read more

What more can we say about Duke other than perfect! We first had the opportunity to see Duke play at the Sunday Showcase put on by Style Matters and his brief set there helped make our decision much easier. We then met Duke a couple of weeks out from our wedding party, after completing the questionnaire from Style Matters. It was great to meet him and go through all the things that we liked and disliked, and we could immediately tell that he got the style that we were going for. The main emphasis being that this was not going to be a stuffy affair and we wanted as many of our friends on the dance floor for as long as possible. Duke asked all the right questions and filled us with confidence that he was going to build a great soundtrack to the evening On the day itself, when we arrived at our party, he had some great music playing for the cocktail hour, and once all the guests sat down for dinner both my husband and I picked out some specific songs that Duke was playing that we had requested and were so happy to hear. Throughout the evening, Duke kept things on pace, introducing the various speakers that we had and helping our photographer to gather people for a group photo. Then to the main part of the evening, as soon as dinner was finished, Duke played one perfect song after another meaning that people rarely left the dance floor. So many of our guests commented how great Duke was and how much they danced as a result of the great music he played. In summary, we cannot recommend Duke more highly, he really made the evening such a success! read more

BOOK THIS COMPANY!!! We had Margo (Disko Kitty). Both she and Spencer were a joy to work with! I was busy mingling/talking to my guests during my wedding, so I didn't dance as much, but my guests had a fantastic time! Margo has a great sense of humor and a joy to work with. We had music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception, and she nailed all of it. The venue kept trying to tell her what to do and she said, "Um, that's nice, let me talk with my CLIENTS, Christina and Kieran, to see what they would like" This is not verbatim, just the gist, but I greatly appreciated her willing to me sure WE had a great time! She also gave us great advice. For example, we had 6-7 people give a speech during dinner. She suggested we break up the speeches so our guest wouldn't have to endure 7 people giving speeches right after the other. I mean...all the speeches were wonderful and heart felt, but that is a LOT of talking in one sitting! So she suggested we have some people speak during soup....then some more speeches during salad....then dinner.....then desert (you get the idea). By the time all 7 of us were done, the cake portion of dinner was wrapping up and we were able to go into the reception right away. Our guests kept chanting, "ONE MORE SONG.....ONE MORE SONG" when the reception was ending, so if that's not an amazing indication of a good time, I don't know what is. Seriously this company gets 5 out of 5 stars for a reason. Do yourself a favor, book this company for your next DJ'ing event....you will be glad you did. read more

We had two phenomenal nights at Ovation for our wedding in January 2018. To lend a bit of background: the first night was an Indian-fusion ceremony and reception, and the second was more traditional-Western (with the crowds to match). Despite the fact that all the Style Matters reviews here were top-notch, we were admittedly nervous about bringing a multi-cultural musical experience to a very mixed crowd. Spencer assured us he would pair us with the ideal DJ for each night, and he did not disappoint. For the first evening, our DJ (Dustin Harris) met with us in advance face-to-face, and mapped out a plan with rather limited input from us. He put together an amazing, diverse playlist ranging from Indian bhangra to hip-hop to classic, all from cocktail hour through the reception's late hours. Andrew Pascale was our DJ for the second night, and he too was absolutely incredible. We gave him a bit more guidance (~25 must-plays and a dozen or so other selections), but he ran with those ideas and wove them into ones he tailored specific to our musical tastes. Whether it was instrumentals we found randomly on YouTube or specific songs off Spotify, both Dustin and Andrew were fantastic at accommodating our selections and making something beyond memorable based off them. Most importantly for us, both DJs had the crowd not wanting to leave until they were peeled off the dance floor. Simply put, Spencer, Dustin and Andrew are freaking magicians, and I would not hesitate whatsoever to call Style Matters if I had any event needs whatsoever. read more

My husband and I chose Style Matters because we are music nerds and we did not want your typical wedding DJ. DJ Lani Love recommended them and I'm so glad she did. We met with Spencer Lokken initially to talk through what we wanted. He was very easy to talk to and understood what we were looking for. As we got closer to the wedding day, I shared with Spencer some spotify playlists we put together for the wedding to help figure out whish DJ would best suit our tastes. Spencer gave me a few options to choose from and my husband and I went with Noah "Weaponry" Casser. Talking with Noah was like having a chat with a friend. He was taking the time to get to know us and not just asking us a list of questions. I really appreciated that and felt that it would allow for a much better musical experience. I was right on! :) Noah understood our music tastes and threw in some awesome eclectic tunes to make all kinds of people happy dancers, but nothing was cheesy or did not fit our style. Noah also really impressed us both when our best man gave a speech and referenced my husband's favorite band, The Police. Right after the speech, Noah cued up "Wrapped around your finger." PERFECT! I also have to say that I love this weird obscure band, The Ocean Blue, who was mildly popular in the early 90's. I never told Noah I liked them and he PLAYED THEM! It was like he was inside my head. Thank you, Noah for making our wedding day SUPER fun and awesome. You are the best. read more

Professional, easy to work with, and most importantly, kept the dance floor packed the entire night. We used them for our wedding at the Memorial Union in Madison, WI. These guys have it down pat so that you can worry about all the other things that go into your wedding. Super easy, professional process. Spencer helps you choose the best match from one of 10+ DJ's from his illustrious DJ stable. Check out their website and read the profiles and you will see that all of these DJ's are pro's who can tear up any venue, and by no means are just wedding DJ's. Dustin was our DJ and was an absolute pleasure to work with. Incredible music knowledge and zero ego. We asked and he delivered. We wanted a low key DJ that would not take over the reception and keep the dance floor packed. Dustin did this perfectly. He MC'd perfectly and worked really well with the photog and venue personel. He read the vibes on the dancefloor and always seemed to know when to change it up or keep it going. Later on when we wanted to get some of the geriatrics back out there we let him know and BOOM!!- grey/blue hairs on the dancefloor. Super great guy to work with and I would highly, highly recommend him. You'll want him to be your friend after working with him. It made us enjoy our day so much more, knowing how solid Dustin and Style Matters was. Their tagline should be "one less thing to worry about". read more

We hired Style Matters to DJ our wedding at the advice of a friend who knew them well. From our first meeting with Spencer forward we knew we had made the right decision. We got the sense that they could cover any genre of music we requested, they approach the job very personally, making the experience as custom as possible. Spencer is super easy to deal with, which is not true of many wedding vendors. We ended up picking Dustin as our DJ and he was perfect. He clearly understood exactly what we wanted planning for the wedding, and on the day of he was extremely accommodating. He was willing to adapt to our rain plan if need be, he arrived very early to a venue that was over 2 hours outside of Chicago, and did not complain once about the distance. He worked seamlessly with the other vendors, making not only our day easier but theirs as well. And the music was amazing, there was not a single minute after the dancing started when the dance floor was empty. His playlist matched perfectly with what we had talked about before the wedding, and many people commented on how great the DJ was during and after the wedding. If you need a DJ for your wedding we highly recommend Style Matters, and if you're looking for a super friendly, professional, and enthusiastic DJ who will work with you to make sure not only the music but the whole day goes perfectly we definitely recommend Dustin. read more

How to sum up Style Matters and their incredible talent Duke? My husband and I spent many hours searching online for companies that delivered above and beyond the norm and who would travel to a remote Northern Michigan llama farm from Chicago. We were looking for alternatives to the typical as we both abhor the usual wedding crap--literally, my husband won't dance to it. For us Cat Power, Ingrid Michelson, Radiohead, remixes of MIA, Diana Ross, Motown, Sam Cooke, Arcade Fire etc., were top on the list and Duke not only played what we asked for but infused his own amazing style and selections. Stylematters has a unique system where they invite all their couples to events that showcase their DJs so you can pick who fits with your style. My husband, who has dabbled in spinning himself, immediately recognized Duke's skill and technical talents. Couple that with his amazing ear for music and you can imagine ... all we heard the night of our wedding was how amazing our music and DJ were! Besides the dancing (and we had the floor packed the entire time) Duke played the best dinner session imaginable. Often overlooked, the tunes hinted at what was to come with a magical and ethereal mix. From obscure remixes of Feist to Vampire Weekend he listened to what we wanted but more importantly he added his own level of hip, sophistication which gelled perfectly with ours. read more

We had our wedding on May 22nd at Ovation so we had the ability to choose any of Style Matters' DJs. We're huge music people, attend a ton of concerts, big old school hip-hop fans, and love to dance, so music was really important to us. They held an event called 'The Joint' at Ovation where all their DJ's did a twenty minute set - every DJ had a different style and played everything from house to hip-hop. After hearing the first two songs that Dustin played, we knew he was our guy. He played old school hip-hop like Tribe Called Quest, Reggae, Latin, Top 20...etc. We told Spencer we would be going with Dustin and filled out the questionnaire that captured the vibe of our wedding, style and songs/artists that we would like played; we didn't want to give him a playlist, but just some some of our favorites and told him to do his thing. On the night of our wedding, Dustin killed it. He had the old people out of their chair in the beginning and transitioned to all our favorites as the night progressed. People were on the dance floor all night and complementing us on how good the music was - none of your corny wedding music like the electric slide and chicken dance. Dustin also killed all the introductions, timeline, and fading the bridal introduction songs. If you're looking for a DJ that's not your standard wedding DJ, Dustin is your guy. read more
