Style by exterior did an exemplary job on our tear off and solar powered sky light windows, new soffitt, trim and gutters. It was not an easy job! Seamless gutter run is 45' long and 30' in the air, a typical Chicago tall roof with a 45 degree pitch. The crew was experienced. Denny, the salesman was terrific; at our home overseeing the job every day. He made sure we knew how to operate the solar powered remote control windows and shades. We love them! We did have an issue with a skylight window which was a Velax problem. This was addressed immediately and without hesitation to our complete satisfaction. Our roof was purchased in 2014. Ever since they removed the ventilation system that was in place when they house was built and put in their ridge vent system. Our attic has been creating so much condensation that mold has formed and water has leaked in every room on our second floor. Style Exteriors has came to my house every winter since 2014 and infact, admitted that its a ventilation issue and will not replace the ventilation system that they installed. When then updated the roof and ridge vent they nailed closed the ridge vent so the air flow cannot properly get out. Causing it to just remain in the attic. We had several different contractors out for their professional opinions, stating it is in fact the ridge vent that they installed. Style Exteriors will not replace it even though it came with a 10 year warranty, which is on their website. Would not recommend this company at al!!l Stay far, far away. They have cost us thousands of dollars in mold removal, painting, drywall replacement, along with purchasing a new ventilation system with another company, due to their poor quality Ridge vent and lack of workman ship when installed. read more

I would give them a 2 1/2 star rating on workmanship and a 5 star on salesmanship. Every part of my roofing replacement we had workmanship issues which I had to fond later on, like installing defective or bad shingle from the bundles, replace the plywood and I guess they stepped or fell through the soffit and was not even told about it till I spotted it a week later. and a few more Yes they repaired everything after several conversations. When I questions about repairing the soffits after they attempt to repair which was a lot worse, at this point after they finally installed the gutters they did not replace the flashing nor did the secure the flashing with open holes for water damage and now my roof is buckling up and waving it's been six week since i notified them and still waiting read more

After hail storm in 2011 I hired Carten Exterior to replace roof on my two story brick building in Chicago, It was complete tear off project and it was and still is a complete NIGHTMARE Lack of protection of adjacent properties lead to clogging of downspouts on one house next to mine and broken gutter hangers on another. Carden agreed initially to fix it but did not. I had to hire another contractor for $300 repairs. My kitchen sink was clogged, Carden denied such possibility, but real roofers know that debris may enter plumbing thru stock pipes if caution is ignored. After extensive arguing they reimbursed for hired plumber. During the whole project it was impossible to communicate because only one person spoke English, often not present on the site. Lack of supervision, rush, poor craftsmanship would best describe what I was witnessing., regardless of my frequent e-mails with pictures sent notoriously to supervisor. It would be end of the story if my new roof was ok, but it was not. Eleven months after completion first leaks on each side of the chimney appeared on dry walls. I called Carden, quite quickly crew was sent and reworked the leaking area. In February this year or 15 months after first repair another batch of leaks appeared in 5 different places, largest in chimney area, two on sky light and two on the porch. I called Carten, but also decided to look for another opinions. I talked to two roofing contractors and they agreed that original work around the chimney and insufficient sealing of the base of chimney are the problems. One contractor gave quote of $1700 for repairs. I made several dozen of pictures from every stage of the project for future reference. I shared contractors findings and recommendations with Carden . Next I prepared list of steps necessary to eliminate leaks and Carden agreed. I also asked Carden it they want to bring another roofer to take another look and give us ANOTHER opinion. Supervisor Lou brought person with allegedly 35 years of experience in roofing. From the very beginning it wasn't hard to figure out that the person was a friend of Garden and was brought to look for excuse and put blame on everything but leaking roof . According to him my roof leaking in 5 different places was perfectly fine, and my only problem was condensation. I want to add that he did not go on the top of the roof to inspect, and that I did not have problems with my 30 years old roof before hail storm. And that first leaking appeared in summer and second in winter. Condensation was brought to my attention also by every roofer that I talked to but they all agreed that extremely sloppy job on the base of chimney covered by flashing is the first suspect for creating leaks and possible condensation. W/o fixing the base of the chimney and proper flashing it's almost impossible to do proper and conclusive troubleshooting. The Person brought by Carden was definitely not independent, but associates of Carden Exteriors and was brought to convince me that everything with my house is wrong except the brand new roof. W/o ANY interest about what's really going on I was informed by him that I have bunch of problems and code violations. It was obvious that Carten liked the diagnosis and had no intention to fix the problems. After that I brought another 3 contractors to take a look AGAIN and again I heard the same story how to fix leaking. I sent another two mails and made one call informing Carden and asking to start and conclude the repairs. I did not hear from them since. Eventually I will hire qualified roofer to do repairs. Right now I am tired of wasting money and hundreds of hours arguing validity of 10 years warranty on my brad new roof that was leaking from the very beginning. I will be updating my post accordingly. Take a look at attached pictures. There is problem or mistake visible on EVERY picture. Real roofer would know, hopefully you see them as well. Now lask yourself question: Would you hire such contractor to do ANY kind of work on YOUR house? Be aware that most reviews are only first impression from people that do not know much about roofing. My review is covering almost 3 years of frustrstration and big loses created by sloppy unprofessional job by CARDEN Exteriors and their refusal to fix leakings and respect their own 10 years warranty. My review was rejected by HomeAdvisor because.............? In June HomeAdvisor decided to post my half star review of Carden Exteriors. We used Style by Carden Exteriors after a large hail storm damaged/cracked our vinyl siding and tore up our roof. Our home needed the entire roof, fascia, gutters and one side of our home to be resided. Everyone I came in contact with at Carden was great. Jeremy was our lead/salesman and did a great job. He addressed all my concerns and ensured that my job was completed properly. There were a few small things that I found once the job was completed and Jeremy sent a crew right over and took care of them without question. That is a sign of a good company. It has been a little over two full years since the work on my home has been completed. There are zero issues with the quality of work and the roof has kept our home dry. My experience with Lou and his team was outstanding. Usually you can't get something done fast, done well, and done affordably- but my new roof is all of the above. Lou was super professional over phone and email, and was on site overseeing the crew and answering my questions on the day of installation. The team was able to start just a week after my first contact. I wasn't even able to meet Lou, and he stopped by while I was at work to accurately assess my roof damage and needs. DETAILED typed up estimate came in over email within an hour. Even though the complete tear-off and rebuild/shingle of the small roof was estimated to finish at 3pm (same day), the crew stayed and worked through the finishing touches until almost 6pm. Perhaps it was a bigger job than they realized, but the price stayed locked in and the quality was top-notch. I've never had a contractor stay late like that to get it done right, and the project turned out beautifully. Great peace of mind trusting the protection of my home with these guys. I was really surprised after reading these other reviews- it's definitely a good situation with Carden now. I'm completely satisfied, and these guys are highly recommended. We used Carden Exteriors for complete roof replacement. On day of installation, we noticed issues. We had to have the installer come back to fix the roof around our chimney. We then had leaking around our skylights over and over again. They would come and do a small fix but never fixed the problem. The company told my husband they would come and fix the damaged drywall, but they never did. They did not install proper ice dam prevention in the valley of our roof which lead to a large water problem in 2013-14 with the very cold weather. Please save yourself from a lot of trouble. Not only did they work with my insurance company to agree on the terms on the repair work, but they also agreed to the original estimate provided without charging us anything extra. I interviewed 5 different companies before hiring Style by Carden Exteriors. I was apprehensive because they were located the farthest away but they were by far the best fit for me. Every other company tried to force me to use the shingles they wanted to use. I didn't want the speckled look on my roof; I wanted a solid color architectural shingle and they listened to me. A very important aspect of customer service is listening. The quote was presented in a concise, professional manner right down to the types of materials and vents that would be used to the placements of new vents. Some of the other roofing companies wouldn't paint the rusted fireplace chimney cap themselves; I would have had to hire a painter myself. Other companies tried to convince me that they were the best simply because they charged more money and they tried to pressure me into replacing my perfectly functional skylights but Carden did what I asked....they left me a couple of bundles of shingles in case I needed to replace the skylights in the future. The rep that quoted the job came out the morning the job took place and made sure the roofers were fully informed before any work started. The work was completed as promised and on time. the gutters were replace the next day and I couldn't be happier with the work and cleanup. One of the things that led me to choose Carden was that they had 3 crews and 3 of the other companies had only 1 crew. I felt that Carden was large enough to accommodate but still small enough to care. We've had a couple of storms since the installation and everything is fine. It is rare these days to find companies that do what they promise so I especially appreciate the experience I had with Carden. read more

After weeks of poor communication and hearing by the end of week, final came out to do roof. Again, communication fell off. Took over a month to come out and do siding. Communication fell off again. Final went over a few issues that needed to be addressed. That was months ago. Haven't heard from them since. Wouldn't recommend. read more

When I was negotiating the contract with the rep (Cody) from Carden Exterior, things went smooth and professional. Once I signed the contract, I started running into obstacles. The time of starting the work for my roof and garage siding was an issue. They started much later than promised - over 3 weeks delay - they kept blaming it on the weather and the number of roofs they need to finish. Then it took longer than expected to finish the job. Workers did the job with no supervision from a team leader or a boss. No one came to check the quality of work after it was done. They signed on the jobs but some things were not fully complete. I had many things done on my house and my garage. I started noting issues with the work - things were not done properly. water was dripping from soffit and fascia, siding of the garage was not done right as water was coming through the walls, material used was cheap, the step of the garage was slanted and unfinished, pieces of metal sheets on roof were not connected, and they overcharged me to install a door which took them only 15 minutes. I complained to the owner of the company. To my surprise the rep who won the contract denied many thing he said verbally. That was a red flag that the person was not very honest. They sent another rep to take care of some of the issue. they attempted to fix a few things but to my surprise I still have the same issues even after the re-work. I wrote another complain to the rep. I gave them a few chances to remediate the issues. If they don't take care of this in a reasonable time, I'll sue. I am worried about potential issues with my roof and I am hoping I don't have to deal with them again. Please be careful if you hire them. Make sure all warranty information is documented. I had difficulty having them documenting the warranty information. The rep was great in saying great information about warranty and when I demanded to see it in writing, I ran into a lot of challenges. I would not hire them again for anything and I would not recommend them to my family or friends. They simply over promised and under delivered. Also please note they go by several names. read more
