After reviewing a neighbor's photos and strong recommendation, we used Stump Fence to replace a weathered gate, repair parts of an old fence, and add a railing to our backyard deck. Marcelo the estimator is terrific. He knows this business inside and out, and understood just what we needed. He was patient with my requests for brainstorming the fencing issues and his estimate was fair. Amazingly, he called when he was stuck in traffic and communicated a change of schedule with one of his workers. The lead worker, Angelo, and his two different helpers were friendly, courteous, incredibly patient, and worked with me when I asked for some changes. They did an extraordinary job; the workmanship was excellent. Not only that, they cleaned up after themselves, didn't bring their dog to the job, didn't have a radio blasting loud music, and get this -- showed up on time! My mom recently had a 26 ft. Fence replaced in her backyard. Her neighbors dogs were always digging under the old fence to which the Stump representative suggested a cement footer to prevent further problems. Everything went as planned, from the estimate quoted to the delivery & install & also the haul away of old fence. The fence is absolutely stunning as shown in the pics. It reminds me of the time I worked with my dad when he had his own business and the many hours he put into building it. I hope this company stays around for a while because they have the professionalism and high quality work ethics that is so lacking with a lot of people/companies these days. UPDATED REVIEW #2: It has almost been a year since Terry and Stump Fence set up our new kennel and iron fence. I wanted to note that despite my going into labor with my son, Terry made sure their team installed the iron fence before we returned home! They are FANTASTIC and my new fence awaited us upon our return. Terry made sure everything worked out and was a blessing. THANK YOU STUMP CO.! UPDATED REVIEW: so while the lack of communication from the office staff still annoys me, Terry has been very attentive. I emailed him after hours about the unknown change in schedule, and he emailed me within a few hours the same day - after work hours. While the local storms have caused a kink in their work flow at the moment (hard to install fences in pouring rain), Terry sent out a crew to at least get my dog kennel completed on time. I still have the iron fence work to complete in my driveway (iron fence wasn't ready yet), but he met me half way which is greatly appreciated. The workers worked fast and needed little guidance or assistance from me. The work was top notch and looks fabulous (thank you!). It was a shared fence with our neighbors and was leaning dangerously into their property. Stump fence came out to give us a quote. They showed up on the day of the job early, and masked up. They took down the old fence and hauled it away. They did the job and charged us as quoted, no surprises. They made sure to clean up after the job, and left the work area cleaner than they found it. I found Stump Fence doing work at another house and asked for the owners info. We made contact and they came out and assessed my situation and listened to what I actually wanted (a craftsman style wood fence). They were the first crew to actually listen and come back with a good design. I hired them and they did the thing. Even when a troublesome neighbor declared we could not attach to the concrete wall that had been in place for 20 years they calmy changed the plan and put in an extra post and continued on without much delay. Stump Fence Co, is a group we would happily use again and whole-heartedly recommend to others. We engaged them to replace the old, deteriorating fencing around our property, a 108 year-old Craftsman that we have restored. From the initial conversations about the type of fencing and all related details (e.g., double-sided, stained, painted or sealed? design of the arbor, choice of hardware, as well as cost, etc.) and throughout the decision-making process, Matt Stump was patient and thorough in answering our questions, providing pros and cons and other helpful information, thus, clarifying our options. Once decisions had been made and the work scheduled, Miguel and Ysidro were sent to remove and install. Here, the quality of the company was equally impressive. Several challenges confronted the crew: 1) having to work around a fully landscaped property (hundreds of flowering plants and bushes and a dozen trees), many of them bordering our lap pool and 2) a very difficult neighbor, who initially refused to allow the crew, quite literally, to step foot on her side of the property line. Despite these challenges, M and Y remained unflustered, courteous, professional throughout, working just as considerately and carefully--once she allowed it--on her property as well as our own; and they managed to win her over in the process. But perhaps one of the truest indicators of the quality of a company is how they respond when something unexpectedly goes wrong. Here again, Stump Fence was impressive. Towards the end of the project, the shop mistakenly delivered a load of unsealed Redwood boards (ours were all to have been sealed); and they were installed before I noticed and called attention to the different hue of the unsealed wood. Long story short, Stump Fence readily and without defensiveness owned the mistake, apologized and--though it meant removing two, extensive, painstakingly-completed sections, running half the length of the pool and then down the side of another property line--loaded them up, took them back to the shop to be properly sealed overnight--and then returned to rebuild those sections! And the crew still managed to finish the project only a day later than estimated. The new fence is just as beautiful and functional as we had hoped; and after twenty years of renovations in various homes across the country, we count Stump Fence among a handful of contractors that we would without hesitation engage again and recommend highly to others! read more

My family and I had the pleasure of Stump fence coming up to our new mountain home and fencing off a little area so our dogs were safe. If I could go lower, I would. Let me start with, during our conversation, I was HUNG UP ON. As I was telling her (I did not yell or argue with this woman), how I took off work to be at this appointment and I never even received a call that the guy was there and left. She never tried to help fix the situation or even find a way to meet half way some how. She basically was telling me, Oh well, the guy was there, then left to the next appointment. I tried calling back several times after being hung up on and they never even answered the phone. I will never do business with anyone that is that immature and treats customers the way she did. read more

I had the gang install two custom gates for me a year ago. They were very pleasant to work with and the gates look fantastic! I basically described what I wanted and they were able to replicate it just the way I wanted. I live on a hill and my house tends to shift now and then. Stump has been out a few times to readjust the gate. I feel it is to the point where I should be paying them, but, every time they refuse. I would head straight back to them should I ever need new gates, but, after a year, they still look good as new. read more

They told me they are too busy to send over a guy to give me an estimate and if I could take all the measurements and call them back to get a "rough" phone quote. I measured my property and called them back and within seconds they quoted me 8,000$. These guys were more then double than the other fence contractors I called. What a joy! Well, I met with other fencers who gave me prices that were higher for this medium-sized job that included a few things. The other fence companies said, "Oh yeah, we'll put in the fence, but we won't stain," and, "Sure, we'll do the fence, but we won't put in the cement block you need under the one section, you'll have to get someone else to do that." And the other fence companies...for less work...came in at higher prices. With Stump, I got all this: Great friendliness, honest communication, a quote that stuck for two months, some concrete work on a wall that needed a row of additional bricks installed, some old fence repair, changes to some locks and edges on our alread-installed-driveway gates, and a fully stained on both sides (to match our other fence) very long horizontal fence (like 72 feet long and five feet high at its highest, grading down in size as it moved toward the front of the house) and a new side gate, and locks installed...all for a price, well, I won't tell you because that would be odd...but all for at least 10% less than the other fence companies who didn't do all the little extras for us. It came out great. It looks great. We dig it! And they're so nice and accommodating. When a lock went kaput (the lock company's fault, not Stump's fault) they came back and reinstalled a new lock. We highly recommend Stump and we hope you will have as great an experience with them as we have. read more
