I recently moved to the area and my friends and family know that I'm a little obsessed with plants. It makes total sense that the first place they took me when I got settled in was STUMP! Ok, I admit it. I geeked out a bit when I walked it. #Goals The layout is awesome! I parked around back and walked through their outdoor area first. When I eventually walked inside, it's like walking through a plant museum. Greenery everywhere! I was "oooing" and "ahhhhing" the entire time! The plant options are really unique too. While they have the basic succulents, they also have a large variety of plants that I wouldn't be able to name off hand. It's really fun to explore the options. If there is something you like, but you're not super savvy about, no worries. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about their inventory and they're always happy to give you advice on how to water your plants, where to place them based on light, etc. They really know what they're talking about. They also have really unique pots and planters all over the place! While they may seem a little pricy, its worth it knowing that they are all hand made. Their designs are typically minimalistic, very clean and simple. I love it! If you decide to hold off on purchasing a pot, don't fret! You can bring your own and they'll plant it for you. My first purchase was this adorable little asparagus fern. I also picked out one of their small white planters. They planted it for me while I was there and I gotta say -- it's quite cute. They even sent me home with a little card that included some facts about the fern. I can't wait to visit again!! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Stump. Between their plant selection and customer service, you can't go wrong purchasing from them. Their knowledge is above par, they're patient, kind and willing to go the extra mile. They made my girlfriends Mother's Day really special because they located a hard to buy plant and secured it for me thus making it a great day! I really appreciate them going the extra mile! Thank you! read more

I love Stumps motif. Simple yet beautiful. I love the unique plants that are everywhere you look. So much greenery. The look is so basic yet elegant. We stopped in for some simple pots for some plants that I already had at home. I was wanting a pot that was the color grey. I was really hoping for a pot exactly like a grey one I saw at the Stump location in Lancaster, but sadly this Stump location did not have the same pot. A pot that I found in the size I was looking for was $48 for one pot. I needed 3 pots. I could not see paying almost $150 for just 3 pots with no plants in them. Especially ones that I did not fall in love with. I can not get the pot that I saw in Lancaster out of my head. So we left empty handed, but I do love Stumps plants. So many beautiful ones to look at and choose from. read more

Great service and products! Loving all my new plant babies that came along with a little info card to ensure their proper care. Customer service at Stump is awesome - especially that if you bring your own planter they'll plant your new plant that you just purchased in it for free. The quality of the plants is great for a good price! Purchased two succulents and a cactus about 6 months ago and they're still going strong. Just bought a small fiddle leaf that I look forward to watching grow. Overall awesome experience shopping here and they've convinced me that everyone should have a little green in their space! read more

STUMP - These are the two plants I bought, along with the care cards they send home with you. - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

First, I'm obsessed with plants. Second, I came because I had a gift card they gave out to teachers that needed used. So this place is magical, and kind. They are limiting how many can be in the store at a time during Covid, and I appreciate that effort, but I was glad to see they are doing good business. The plant selection was great, and the man working (I wish I had asked his name) was AMAZING and so helpful in my search for the perfect new plant. So helpful that I left with three lol. He knew so much about them, and wrote out the things I needed to know to properly care for my plants, I was really impressed with his knowledge. He even transplanted one of the plants I bought into the new planter I also purchased (they have lots of beautiful planters). And the prices were great, I was impressed with that also. So you can tell, I loved this store, and I will be back, even though I no longer have space for plants in my house. Anyone know someone who can build an addition to my house? read more

So, I don't really want to leave this review, but I truly feel it will help someone in the future save time by avoiding this place, as I made a special trip here. I walked into this business today with money to burn for my new, ever-growing collection of beautiful houseplants. I came here specifically because they were supposed to have a nice selection of succulents, which is exactly what I was in the market for. I also needed another snake plant, which previous reviews mentioned as being sold here. Well, apparently, this place only wants business from white customers, as when I walked in, I was not only not greeted, I was actively ignored. I figured that would change when the guy behind the counter finished up with the woman he was helping, but nope. He then moved on to the other white customer in the store. I figured, again, that he would acknowledge the other customer (me) in this very small store after he was finished with her. Nope, once more. During this time, I asked questions about the snake plants and succulents, and I received a curt answer, nothing more. So, I left and went to Lowe's, where they were more than happy to help, and acknowledge a customer's presence in their business. People of color, be warned, they don't want your money. Go where you won't be a burden and where your money is appreciated. read more

Nothing helps make a great comfortable space like beautiful plants. We were after a specific one to showcase in our main space so we called up STUMP. I was surprised they not only had one, but many of them at their various locations! Decided to simply stop in to the closest one to us. We picked out a gorgeous healthy plant and a pot that together accomplish exactly what we were after. Not only that, but the service is fantastic and they even offered a nice comprehensive guide to caring for our new plant. Couldn't ask for more! read more

I was super excited to visit this place while I was in town the other day but it didn't meet my expectations at all. I walked up and contemplated the lack of curb appeal since I almost drove right past it. The building is painted a dreary black with no advertising. There is a "STUMP" sign super high up but it's dark brown and blends in! As I walked in, I was kindly greeted with a smile and was offered some help which was nice, but I couldn't talk myself into buying anything since every item was priced so high. The plants are beautiful and well taken care of but you can find the same product at a Lowe's for way cheaper. They also have a ton of "sold" signs on their plants and it's still displayed for other customers, which doesn't seem fair. I can somewhat understand since it's kind of a small store, but move the purchased item to a different part of the building or ask the customer to take it with them. This place also doesn't have any parking, and if it does it's impossible to find! I had to park in a tow away zone across the street and take a chance. I wish this store actively had sales, that would convince me not walk out empty handed or at least to revisit, but for now I don't think I will. read more

STUMP - Pretty but too expensive - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

I was looking for new places to find some plants for my apartment and actually found STUMP from yelp. It's in a little house off of 5th Ave, which is really cute. The parking is a little funky, you have to go past the house, and turn into a driveway then drive back behind some houses to get to the parking lot. We got there about a half an hour before they opened, so we decided to look in the windows just to check it out and come back another time. However, one of the girls working there saw us and invited us in. They were putting everything out to display and watering all the plants, but didn't seem to mind having us there. The variety of plants was awesome, and I believe all of them were indoor plants. I saw a little green house when I was leaving, so I'm wondering if they have outdoor plants during warmer weather? The inside of the house was gorgeous, all the plants were in great shape and the people working there were very knowledgeable and you could tell they really liked talking about the different plants and how to care for them. I ended up buying one of their big Snake Plants which I thought was reasonably priced for how big it was and how nice of a pot it was in. They have a really cool little selection of different pots you can buy, and the told me if you really like a certain pot that doesn't come with the plant you buy, they are able to swap them out. I needed a small pot and soil for a Christmas Cactus snipping I am trying to propagate. I am very new to the plant world and have no idea what I am doing so I asked them for help on how to make sure I don't kill my cactus. They were more than happy to talk to me about it and gave me a lot of good tips and tricks. Once they knew what kind of plant I was trying to propagate, they told me they would fill my pot with stones and soil mixed with sand, which would be ideal for my little cactus. I will definitely be back because I want ALL of their plants, and I'm sure I'm going to need another lesson on plant care in the near future as well :/ read more

Average plants at very high prices and very hard to find parking. Kind staff! Won't be returning.

I really wanted to like this place because of my slight obsession with houseplants. Ok, my pretty extreme obsession with house plants. However, I found it just ok--average variety of plants but high prices. First, it was pretty small, though with a nice minimalist aesthetic . They did have a lot of plants, but their variety was a little limited. I found the same plants in different rooms, and didn't find any plants I hadn't encountered elsewhere. So, I would definitely call their selection "curated". I was looking for small cacti and found maybe two different types, both medium sized--pretty limited. Straders Garden Centers has a way larger selection of cacti, and they are only $3 vs. $8 at Stump. The pots were also extremely expensive. They had some really lovely handmade pots, but even the small ones (and I really mean tiny) were 20-plus dollars. I saw some ones I was tempted to buy, but were $32, when I would guess they would cost $6. I ended up purchasing two mass-production pots, and they were still around 20 dollars. They were small to medium sized--being more on the small side. The two tiny plants (for a fairy garden) were $3 each, about what they would be at other places. But overall their selection of what I would call "fairy garden plants" was pretty limited. The staff was very friendly, and I liked they gave you care cards. But overall, I would recommend you go to Straders. They simply have a way larger selection of plants, and more reasonable prices, though still more expensive than Home Depot. I was expecting to see high prices, but these were just outside the realm of reasonable. The Still felt reasonable by comparison. read more

Stopped into Stump a couple of weeks ago to see what they had to offer. They gave us free mini-cupcakes from a local bakery and we left with a really unique succulent in a great macramé hanger! You can also bring in your sick plants and they will help you figure out what you're doing wrong and what to do to save them. They also take donations of sick plants if you really think your plant is doomed. As long as the plant is still alive, they can save it! What a cool place! read more

Stump is a very stylish, cute shop that I would mistake as a local coffee shop.... if they served coffee. Truly, the Stump atmosphere is cozy and gives off that nurturing feeling with the plants around. Mostly succulent/cacti variety plants the shop appears to offer mostly shelf-type plant opportunities. The bigger plants are there but in small numbers. The staffers are great, very helpful and willing to talk shop as we've done on the 2 occasions I've visited. I bought a nice ceramic pot for my "SPIKE" cactus and got some tips on lighting and potting soil. Stump has some very earthy plants and growing tools/pots that are great. They sell other materials, bracelets, buddha-type thinking stuff. Parking is a little cramped in the back but only if they're store is busy. I've seen on Instagram (stump plants) where the owners/managers have thrown brunch get togethers. Very smart. I like Stump and they'll get to see more of me. read more

Experienced Stump for the first time today, and am extremely impressed! I love cacti and succulents, but didn't know where to buy them without dealing with the "to-do" of going to a nursery (who in my experience have less variety anyway). I stumbled across Stump through an article announcing their second location that is opening up in German Village. Their current location just east of 4th St. on 5th Ave. is super easy to get to, and there's parking behind the shop. The owners immediately greeted me upon my arrival, and were generally very warm, friendly, knowledgeable people (they also have a friendly dog who roams the shop, at least when I was there). The plants are amazing. They have all sorts of succulents, cacti, air plants, and some tropical plants (I believe? No botanist here) ranging from tiny to large, and are priced respectively. I got a smaller succulent for $8, which I bought a terracotta pot for (an extra $3), and a tiny cactus for $4. As you can see, slightly pricey. That's to be expected though, the plants themselves are more expensive to buy for the shop owners. If you buy pots to go with your plants, they plant them for you at checkout--really convenient. I fully plan to go back (with a bigger budget), and buy some larger plants. I may even bring some pictures of my apartment so that they can help me select one. Highly recommend this place!
