A broken wrist stopped me from planting in Spring and early Summer, but I sallied forth today with a list of nearby nurseries. Seely's was first on my list, and I didn't need to go farther. They have an impressive selection of trees, shrubs, flowers, and leafy perennials. Their Hosta selection is the largest I've ever seen. At a guess I'd say they have at least 100 different varieties. It's incredible! The Seely's employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and service-oriented. Julie hauled my cart all through the many plants, giving me advice on what plants would work with my East and West-facing planting areas. When I found one of my favorite plants looking a bit scraggly late in the season, she pruned the leggy parts off and left the beautifully formed inner stems and leaves for me. She was patient as I back-tracked to revisit plants I was interested in. Then she helped me load all my plants and a couple bags of Sweet Peat mulch/soil enhancer into the back of my Outback. I will definitely return to Seely's as I fill out my garden areas in the coming years. And I'll definitely watch for Julie when I do. My friend and I stopped in this afternoon to check out some plants for our home. Instantly I felt…read morelike I was in heaven!! Pretty plants of all sizes lined up along from the floor to shelves. The ladies working there were so nice and helpful- without being overwhelming. They answered questions we had and were so helpful in picking out the right plants we wanted. I'm still very new with being a plant mom so this was a much needed experience for me. I ended up purchasing a calathea family plant. The plant itself cost $26 and another $26 for a nice pot. This is a medium sized plant so I found that this was a good price. They pot it for you and this was a life saver for me! You can also choose what pot you'd like if you the plant is in a different pot (not potted) on display. There are some quality pots that can cost $$ but there are so many options, which I appreciated the most. I'm all about supporting local small businesses. I'm so happy that near west side has a cute plant shop like Jewelweed that I look forward to coming back to!!

I think what truly separates them is the care and consideration that they give to the plants and trees. I have a small orchard on my property of only about 40 trees and as they need replaced, I have been using trees from mile tree nursery. They use a drip system on their trees so they are constantly watered. A number of the big box stores in the area water their trees intermittently and as a result, the quality is very poor. The people are extremely friendly there and very helpful.

DeMonye's had 10x the variety of what I usually find at Straders, and they were $4.49!! I did a little dance. You can find annuals, perennials, indoor plants, bulbs, seeds, soil, garden decor, pots, you name it! I also found flowers and berry plants for my garden.
