Consigners beware. They have now changed it from the 50/50 split, to 40 you/60 them. When you book your appointment, it will take a good hour for some teenager to paw through your stuff (busy or not). You must have an appointment (keep in mind, this will take a few weeks to get in not that you'll actually be helped at your scheduled appointment time). Oh, here's a fun nugget. They have now stopped paying accounts under $5 unless it's the last of your money. If I come in to shop and have a couple bucks, you should give me my money whether it's $5 or not. Shoppers - They are living in a fantasy land with their prices. Clothes are reasonable, but I find it hard to believe pricing a 1970s stained sofa will sell at $300. They overprice furniture, so it takes way longer to sell than it should. There is such a disparity in pricing based on the system they use too. Give better instructions on how to "check in" not only do we check in on your computer to get a slip. Apparently we also have to write our name in the book and then wait in line. We can't even BUY a black tote to leave any more and you only have 2 or less staff in receiving, no only do you blow ball our items now you want us to spend all day in line!!!! Ridiculous Add "write you name in note book". Because to me Checking in means signing in on your computer and getting in line. So that we know we have to check in TWICE!!! read more

Pretty fast check in for consigners if you get there right before 10 am when they open. Your items are usually priced within a week or so, a lot quicker than the Coralville store where it could take up to a month! But when they tell you that you get 40% of the retail price, that is not the case! We found out that the price they say they price it at is not the price they put on the item!!! For instance, an item they say is 8.50 is actually tagged 9.99 or so meaning that they will give you 40% of 8.50 (3.40) but that equals only 34% or so of the actual retail price!!! LOTS of stuff - fun to shop when have free time - BUT BEWARE! Prices are high, attitude is dishonesty, not worth the effort to consign. Went with friend to check out possibly consigning - she does lots of consigning and shopping - as I looked around to check things out - friend hung out by spot where staff was pricing stuff just consigned - & listening to their conversation . Some things were being put into the 75% off pile - turns out they were being put aside for staff to purchase!! Had heard that this was a common practice at the CR store - as well as complaints that their record keeping was poor - records lost, etc. This place is a total rip off for the most part for consigners - we decided that it was not worth the work, time, and effort to consign here! For one stuff is a pimp job they want to take 40% of what you bring in they should be taking more like 20% of what you bring it then on top of that they're getting very picky about what they're going to take. I had mint condition stuff with price tag still on it. They wouldn't take it because of the shoulder pads. They wouldn't take a pinstripe Ladies suit and skirt that pinstripe don't never go out of style, but they wouldn't take it. It was Ashley Stewart tagged on it, but they wouldn't take it so they're very picky about what they wanna take and I have mid condition stuff and I gotta find another consignment shop to take my stuff to. As a person cosigning, I think Stuff in the Cedar Rapids need a better system. I was told that I had to wait in line to just drop off 1 tote for a walk-in tote drop. I thought they did a ticket system give a tote let you fill it then take it so it would go faster. Apparently not the case as I seen a woman do the ticket but still had to wait behind 24 people on a list who didn't do the tickets. Not a good idea to cosign here if you have two jobs and have to tend to a garden/ farm like I have to. Not enough helpers or options if in a rush or short on time weekly. As a shopper not impressed either from some merchandise, I have experience in it seemed expensive for what it actually was worth even though it was used and had some age on it still more than full price. As for selection not much for me in my areas of thrifting plus the price alone drives me to other places for similar finds. read more

Zach ( I assume he worked in loss prevention ) profiled me and judged me based upon my looks and my mannerisms with how I shop. I am diagnosed with a variety of sever mental illnesses and I get this sort of treatment and attention at stores all the time. He came over to me and demanded that I leave the store and he was laughing at my misfortune . He wouldn't let me check out all the treasures I spent the last 3 hours finding. I am a chair member of NAMI, the Red Cross, United way, and CASA which works with displaced Holstein and the DHS system. I was gathering gifts for fundraisers and for a raffle. I also adopt families over the holidays and I used to buy a lot of stuff at your store, but I refuse to shop at a store that's assuming and discriminatory towards women with mental illness. Just l because I shop a little differently doesn't mean I'm stealing. You should be forced to wait until I reach the register to make that assumption otherwise you'll continue to offend other people like me. I hope Zach knows I'm already incredibly insecure to have asbergers, bipolar, and schizophrenia but now thanks to him im even more embarrassed ( as he embarrassed me in front of other customers as well ) It's time to normalize treating each person equal regardless of the struggles that make them who they are. I do marketing, PR, and my blog has over a million followers & you best believe i will be sharing this with them telling them not to shop at stuff. In complete shock about how we were treated at Stuff Etc. in the CR location. The old grumpy worker scolded my children for playing with the toys- literally figuring out what toys we wanted to buy. it feels like a form of discrimination to not be able to let my kids test out items at a USED item store and to be treated so poorly by such a crotchety old lady in a power trip. the whole place smelled like pee. needless to say we did not spend money on their toys and won't be coming back. will be contacting corporate as well. read more

As a shopper I highly recommend this place as I buy a lot of my designer clothes from here and most still have tags on and at least 50% off normal price! As a consigner I do not recommend it! You will lose money and you are better off doing market place on FB. They have a lot of high school kids that really do not understand "Pricing" AND that is why I shop here!! I visit this Stuff Etc a couple of times a month to look for good deals...mostly on clothing for my daughter. I have found some awesome Halloween decorations as well as great sporting gear and clothing at this location. Today, I went to Stuff Etc with my daughter to look for ballet clothing for her new dance class and we were unsuccessful in finding anything for her. Overall though, this is a good place to shop for used clothing. read more

Cedar Rapids Blair's Ferry store should spend some time on customer service- especially at the check in Desk. I checked in and got my ticket this morning and waited half hour til two who came in after me We're served. The taller girl of the two working rudely told me I also had to give them my name to put on the wait list. 'Read the Sign' she rudely said. I wasn't the only one who noticed her behavior because two other customers commented to me how rude she was. I drove my things down the street and donated to Salvation Army - who were very polite in accepting my donation. I wonder which of those employees makes a higher wage - I know which one is a more valuable employee. read more

I take lots of toys & clothes to Stuff & am happy to get credit for them. If they don't take an item the first time I will send it a 2nd time & lots of times they take it then. I keep the rejects in the trunk of my car & add them to the bag later. I always take a bag because I want the rejects back. If they don't take it a 2nd or 3rd time I drop it off at Sal Army. I use my credits to purchase purses, clothes, flags, art, all kinds of items for a reasonable price. I like to go on Wed for the Senior discount. read more

Love shopping here. I thought I would consign some things. One of the totes I brought in had some really nice vintage dishes, pitchers, ashtrays, Royal Copenhagen and other very nice treasures. I never got the listing that they send you on email after they process and price your tote, so I inquired about it. I was told by Ashley that she couldn't really tell me what happened to this tote but that it was "probably " donated. I understand this policy of theirs; if you bring in crappy stuff they will donate it. I get it. They evidently have no way of telling where your stuff went. I'm calling BS. Stuff, Etc is a good place to buy things, but not sell your things. I took several items there a couple of years ago to sell. First off, they don't give you an itemized list of what you gave them. Because of that, they rip you off. I found they sold things of mine and never credited me. In other words, they kept the money for themselves. One such item (out of several) was a nice French coffee press with engraving. It was very unique. I decided about a week later as I was in their store to buy it back. I figured I'd get a percentage buying it back, so I wouldn't be out that much money. Well after I bought it back I looked for credit to my account and it wasn't there. I asked about it and they said they had no record of me giving them a French press. So after much complaining to the manager for them selling my stuff without paying me, she reluctantly gave me $5. Big whoop. Five bucks after I caught them ripping me off is all they were willing to pay me. Stuff, Etc has a racket going where they are selling a lot of your stuff, but not paying you. And since you don't have an itemized listing of what you gave them to sell, you can't really prove it and they will just argue with you. So if you want to buy things, Stuff, Etc is fine, but don't give your stuff for them to sell, because they will short you. I had other people I mentioned this to also say they did that to them, so this isn't an isolated incident. Don't take your items there to sell unless you like being ripped off and shorted. read more

I bought a humidifier and the clerk said they had a 48 hr. return policy. I found out after tweaking it some that no water was leaving the machine. I called after 2 days and the supervisor said they had a 24 hr. return. I told her my receipt said 48 hrs. on a appliance. She said, this is not a appliance. I knew better but wasn't going to argue with a young girl. I will not buy anything from there again. read more

Every time I walk in to this store.. which granted has only been a couple of times.. The price for the quality of the items are usually quite expensive. I have seen used stuff there only maybe a couple dollars less than full brand new price.. and the item will be obviously used. My friend likes to look through the store.. When I have went though I was always surprised as to what these people were trying to sell stuff for.. I have heard some other bad things about the place about employees and I have heard others complain about the prices.. All I have to say is do your research first then buy.. do not buy ANYTHING from there unless you know its true value. read more

Last visit to Stuff today except to close my account. Their treatment of consignors is SOOOO inconsistent. Some of the staff is helpful and courteous in spite of management. I have consigned for years and they have made lots of money from me, but I can never depend on whether or not they will accept the items. I've had my "rejects" stolen and they take no responsibility. I've had one reviewer take nothing and have complained and then the next reviewer takes 100% of the same items. There is so little training and many of the staff members don't recognize higher end brands to which they have not been exposed. It's just ridiculous. I can understand that they probably have a lot of turnover, but management doesn't resolve issues and doesn't apologize. Don't waste your time. read more

I use to love this store. I know it's always had its problems and all, even before the new manager came in it needed a lot of work. But the place has NOT improved. In fact, it's gotten worse. The manager treats his employees like trash. He's a big guy but he's actually too young for this position. He has no business sense and seems to be really clicky. I've seen him threaten and intimidate the staff over personal issues. When I approached corporate about this, they just didn't care and laughed at me! The employees are not happy here and soon after management changed, most of this store's veteran workers all quit. I've known most of the people here a long time and it pains me to see how much Stuff, ETC. takes advantage of its own people. This place is a total joke! It gets frustrating trying to consign here. I can drop off a bucket of items and nothing is accepted. I'll drop off the exact same bucket right after and nearly all the items are accepted. I have dropped off new and like-new items and they don't get accepted. When I call to ask why, my items fall under every category of "would be accepted" items. But they're not. VERY DISAPOINTING! I took many very nice dress clothes from when I worked in a jewelry store. I had to have nice dress clothes. They are still in style for that type of work. But they only have "kids" doing the check in process and deciding what they want. I looked around and the majority of the shoppers were over 40 so these clothes would be of interest to women who like or need nice dress clothes. Well the "kids" the oldest was maybe 21, they probably don't realize some people have to dress for success. I also had some really nice casual summer outfits. I mean these are from Younkers, Dillards, and Dress Barn. So if you take things don't expect that they will accept them unless they are very casual and for "kids". They are missing the boat for the older shoppers, and those who need dress clothes. read more

I brought in a nice bag of items-mostly holiday items-the end of October. It took them 3 weeks before the items were placed on the floor for sale. After that for 3 straight weeks, I searched the floor for several items they were to have placed for sale but could not find them anywhere in the store. Then exactly 1 month later, after the 50% holiday sale, the items ended up in my sold item list for pennies. A friend who used to work there said the sales staff take items they want, place them in their locker until the sales hit and then mark them the lowest price to keep or give them to others. Best to give your items to Goodwill for a tax receipt! read more

Part of what I took in was a Scentsy pot with attached pods. I saw that the pods sold way too soon for them to have even hit the sales floor, found out an employee decided to separate the set, price the pods at nothing, and purchase the pods for their self . Managements response was to credit me an additional 78 cents. The attachment of the pods was meant to increase the value and interest in the pot. They kinda suck! read more

I am very disappointed with my experience with this store. I took several items in one box (you are allowed 1 box without an appointment) and left them on a Monday. I marked NO by the questions do you want to donate any unwanted items. Both my email and phone number were on the ticket along with my account #. I hadn't heard anything back and stopped in one day later in the same week and was told by an associate in receiving I would be getting an email and that it will take several days to get through my items. After a couple more days I called again and an associate on the phone asked me if I got an email. I answered no and she looked online and saw that I had items under my # but that an email hadn't been sent yet, so she told me to wait a couple more days and I should be getting an email. I didn't want to keep stopping in and have them tell me it wasn't ready but thought I better go back this am. (I still hadn't received an email from them) I was told by an associate that my things had been gone through and since I didn't pick them up any items Stuff didn't take were donated! Keep in mind I had marked that I didn't want my unwanted items donated. I can donate myself and get the tax credit. I was quite upset and asked for a manager who said my items went out this morning. The manager resent the email which I got instantly on my phone. I did a search on my email and no other emails came up from Stuff, Etc. The manager told me next time I should ask to speak to someone in receiving. Shouldn't the person who answers the phone be instructed to transfer the call? This shouldn't be my responsibility. I couldn't even get my container back which I had the lid for at home. She offered 2 other containers which I took one thinking it may match my lid, but it doesn't. I have been warned by others of the amounts they take from items but I thought I would try to use them again recently. I am now out some items, my donation tax credit, and my container due to the fact that they forgot to send me the email. There was no offer to buy me another plastic bin either, only give me someone else's used one. I am going to take my things elsewhere from now on or donate them and take the tax credit and forget this place! read more

They had a pretty good selection of stuff but the smell in the store was so sickly sweet that I couldn't stay for more than 20 minutes.

I didn't like to shop at Stuff in the past b/c it was too crowded. I used to be a Goodwill fan, but their prices are higher than they used to be, so for a "true" bargain, you have to go to Salvation Army, which tends to smell "off". Stuff is a used clothing / everything store, so you have to pick thru the selection...is it current, clean, or useful (?) just like other "thrift" stores. What I DO like about Stuff is their clearance area can be a real bargain, with up to 90% off on the right day (GW and "Sally" don't offer that). I do think their stuff is clean and usually in good working order. They also have a website to get coupons and have weekly specials using their black recycle bag. They are super generous to donate to charitable organizations (see the website). I have never consigned, so I can't speak to that. I don't own anything of real value, so I hope my donations to Treasures (BridgeHaven) will help someone out moreso than consigning for a few dollars. Even with their huge expansion, Stuff's consigning area is kind of junky and overwhelming, but with everything in the new store so open and exposed, where can they hide it? read more
