Stuff etc. made the experience of selling items easy. Great experience. And items were priced fairly and sold quickly.

Been shopping there for 2years sporadically. Nothing has improved! Why? Because corporations don't care as long as people keep going there to shop BUT ESPECIALLY a consignment store. They live off of public's possessions (commissions) when they do sell n when they don't, it isn't their problem. They are returned to the owners n if not wanted back, they get donated to a thrift store. I wonder if they get a tax write off on that. WATCH OUT! If u buy electronics, cookware or cosmetics...MONEY BACK OR STORE CREDIT policy is voided if not returned within 24hours after purchase when not working which they don't post anywhere in their store. LOOK AT ALL THE ONE STARS on reviews...doesn't that tell u a lot? What's with the wanting of donation/drop off of used plastic bags! Arent u a paying customer? Even the people taking free groceries from the local pantry get new plastic bags! Why do u deserve a used bag? Money in the pockets for those corporation big bosses! Have u seen the clearance section? Your once priced possessions are just thrown into a corner like rejected toys. There is no customer is right policy these days because it is about greed! This is about a terrible exchange between an employee and consignor. What appeared to be a young college-aged girl trying to make extra money accidentally placed breakables in her bag, and when she went to hand it to the employee, the employee dropped the bag and things broke. At that point the employee screamed and belittled the poor girl (who apologized) and then the employee ("Jessica?") continued her rage by kicking a bucket at her!! I can understand that the policy is no breakables In the bag, but she was apologetic and cleaned it up, all the while the employee (and other employees!) stood there watching her and then continued to humiliate her by shaking their heads and asking "who can I help next". The girl was In tears and I felt so bad. Please, "Stuff, Etc," if you can't hire people who understand basic customer service, perhaps basic human decency? read more

I hope an employee or owner of this store sees this review!!! We took in a winter coat #660, black with zebra trim and you are referring to it as "sleepwear"!!! It is a "COAT"! And, it is new! Also, why isn't the lighted Christmas wreath we took in at the same time on the list? It seems every time we take something in, there is a problem. You people do not know QUALITY! They are a complete joke! Store full of junk at high prices but refuse designer like new clothes over 2 years old and refuse furniture that's like new because there's a "little" wear on it! It's a consignment store- if you want all new then go into that business. Never again!!!! read more

This review is solely about my experience as a consignor. Took a truckful of furniture, including a queen sized headboard in good condition and a practically new leather couch. The headboard was probably worth $300, the couch maybe $600. They were bought for much more but I realize this is a consignment shop and people go there looking for deals, as I myself do all the time. Well, the couch was priced at $279.99 and sold within 5 days. We got $88 of that on our account. The headboard is still there because they scratched it in 2 places. They priced it for $199.99, about $100 dollars less than the other queen sized headboards and my guess is that it won't sell at all because who would pay $200 for a scratched headboard?!? I asked a manager about the scratches and she claimed she was pretty sure it was like that when it came in. I told her it was not and she just looked at me. Pair that with how few items of clothing they ever accept and I think I will sell my own stuff from now on. It was not worth the cost of the truck rental to get the stuff there, or the cost of gas to take clothing and kitchen supplies. read more

The atmosphere here was horrid. It looked worse than most thrift store but the prices were higher. It's disorganized, unappealing, and put a bad taste in my mouth. It was as fun as thrifting and my boyfriend found a cool record, but the prices were higher because it's consignment. That's disappointing to me because the place looked worse than most thrift stores I go to where I can get things cheaper. I probably won't go here again. read more

I saw this place online and was so excited to go..when i finally got the chance to go it was a huge letdown right from the start..I went to the womans jeans which i am in need of because mine got stolen, anyways the prices are way to expensive for second hand clothes..an off brand of jeans $12 and on up. Ridiculous in my opinion..I can see $5 or $6 but not $12 for a pair that cost 12 new...The furniture priced as if it were brand new on the showroom floor..Looked for a comforter for my mom these are used let me remind you $25 and up..Priced as new. Dont waste your time..Go get brand new because those are the prices you will pay for buying things in this place...Huge letdown..zero stars.. read more

Am taking my consignment elsewhere or to Goodwill going forward. They use to be great to work with but as of late, they have too many limits on drop offs and don't let me know when they have reviewed my items so they end up recycling my bags with the leftover items. We found a great desk at Stuff in Ankeny. Cashier wasn't real knowledgeable about the process of holding items. We returned a few days later to schedule delivery. Different cashier wasn't real knowledgeable about the process either. "He'll call you". Fast forward a week. No call. I called to find out status "We will remind him". Fast forward another week. We get a call, desk will be delivered Friday. Friday comes and goes, no call no show. Fast forward a few days, we go into the store, the desk was sold to someone else. They offered the bare minimum and refunded our money. No apologies for selling our desk out from under us. Good selection for in store purchases (be prepared to wait for cashiers) but I don't recommend having items held or delivered. We won't shop Stuff for a while read more

I'm reading the negative comments and I'm confident that these aren't actual buyers. Stuff CAN be more expensive than other thrifts, but in my extensive full-time-reseller experience, the store I enter in Des Moines on Douglas, I think, is extremely clean, the people professional and the goods of superior quality for marginally more than a typical Goodwill. Incredible high-end furniture can be purchased at superbly low prices. Unlike Goodwill, I'm not aware of the philanthropic aim of Stuff, Inc. The charity they support best is that of each individual consumer who wants higher quality goods at a more than fair price. read more

WAY OVER PRICED! Employees not helpful. Will not return. This is supposed to be a second hand store.

I had no idea what this place was by looking at it when driving by all the time. It is tucked in the back behind Wells Fargo bank for those who have difficultly locating it. I discovered it was a consignment store by reading Yelp reviews. We decided to check it out to see what they had to offer. We went around the entire store checking things out and were impressed with some items and their price. Overall we didn't find too many things that fit our style. I knocked one star because the organization of items could have been better and there were many very dirty or partially broken items that made me wonder about the quality of other items. read more

Very sprawling selection of consignment items. Like a department store garage sale. Items are better in quality than other stores of this type. Back of the store has a section titled Antiques that has some neat items. A little messy, but it's manageable. read more

The crew at Stuff Etc, much like it's Iowa City/C-ville counterparts are all about taking in the best of the best in products. Being consignment and not a thrift shop you know you're getting a higher quality item for about the same price. The staff isn't around much when you're searching for goodies but when you need them they're willing to help out. My uncle has brought some stuff here on consignment and also said they are very prompt in payment and fair. All-in-all a very welcome part of the Des Moines-area community and we will stop here whenever we are in the area probably! Oh, one con- the getting to the place is kind of confusing. I always want to turn too early because of where the road sign is placed closer to Quik Trip and the actual location is further back from the road. Ample parking though! read more

Note to owners: Hire more help. The registers are almost always backed up with 1 cashier. Also not good if you're wanting to consign. Called & was told no furniture on the weekends by an employee. Went in on a weekday & was told furniture accepted 7 days/wk. ?? Long line for consignors with 1 person working desk/computer. Confusing paperwork of rules/regulations. Was told on phone to bring ALL clothing & furniture. (We were moving.) Loaded truck, brought it in & was told only 1 small STUFF bag or plastic bin of clothing per visit allowed.?? Also told several name brands were not welcome. ?? I had several bags of laundered clothing in excellent condition but could only leave a fraction of it all per visit. ?? When dropping off items I didn't see anything being tagged or marked with my consignor # & was concerned about it. Went to check on line & wasn't able to sign into system to check my account due to info. entered incorrectly (name, email & phone all wrong). Called 2x to get it fixed. Why not log in with the given acct. #? Would like to see a better consignment system & more qualified help. The employees I've talked to have been very nice, but there is a serious lack of organization here. By the way- voicemail message says, "press zero to leave a message." I did and was taken back to the main menu repeatedly. From one business owner to another...making some minor tweaks would make a huge difference. read more

Be aware of what you buy. I saw a crib in there from 2001 and all cribs manufactured before 2011 have basically been recalled.

I've consigned merchandise here in the past with no problems. I recently took in a tub of quality items -most new with tags. I was not notified when my consignment was processed. So, the items I specifically requested to be returned were recycled instead. Plus, I was charged for recycling. When I called to ask about my account, a clerk said they called me to come in and I didn't. First, no one called. I called them to cancel an appointment to consign more merchandise due to a storm (Feb 2). No one called me. I called them and there was no information given other than confirming cancellation. In any case, an employee(s) or management doesn't seem to be concerned with job details or customer service. read more

Cannot get enough of this place. The staff is friendly, the items are up dated daily, lots of items on sale, tons of fun necklaces, magazines, and home decor. There are with all consignments are hit and misses on things--sports equipment, kid clothes, furniture...but really lots of great items. read more

Super organized and clean consignment store with everything under the sun for sale. Prices are only a third of mall prices. Great place to find cute, useful and unique items for cheap as well as get rid of your own clutter while making money on it! read more

Made my first visit yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of items overall. I was also pleased to learn from signs posted in the store, which advise you to check the date on the tags, that after 30 & 60 days items are discounted. However, a word of caution since all sales are final, make sure the prices are actually discounted BEFORE you pay. I was told by the cashier that, yes, the prices are automatically updated at the register when I inquired at the register. Unfortunately, I took his word for it and only discovered after arriving home that I paid full price for 2 items that should have been discounted by 50%. I emailed the store and have yet to receive any response. For those reasons, I only rated 3 stars. read more

I brought two tubs full of items to consign for the first time here. The staff was not very friendly or helpful. I waited around for over an hour and finally asked if my stuff was ready and they said oh yeah and pointed to the few items they did not accept in my tubs. Then I asked if there was anything else I needed and they said no. It seemed very odd to not get a receipt or inventory list of all the items they accepted so I emailed the store the next day to ask and they said I should have been emailed one but they would resend. Two days later and they have still not sent it or responded to my two follow ups asking for a resolution. It seems that they either stole or misplaced my items! read more

Good place to buy, but to consign you get pennies on the dollar.

I check out this place often cause they constantly have new things. It's a great consignment store with everything you can imagine. The only downfall is that you have to watch the prices on things because A LOT of items are over priced. This place would be so much better if they didn't over price things and remember these are used items. I bought a toy dog for a little girl and the price was $16.99 and it was very used. On eBay or Amazon I could have gotten a brand new one for $5 more, however I failed to check online before purchasing. Now I always check online prices before purchasing anything from this store. read more
