The purpose of a thrift store is to provide clothing and household items to the general public at reasonable prices and to make shopping more affordable for lower income individuals. For some reason, this particular store has gone downhill like crazy in the last year. They used to have weekly discounts referencing the color coded tags. It was affordable and occasionally you could get a bargain. Not so anymore! On a recent visit, a man's long-sleeved very used pullover shirt was marked at $8.99. I can hardly imagine that their turnover is anywhere near what it was when they had the weekly specials and realistic pricing. Something is going on here, and it is NOT of any help to the lower income population of Des Moines. Therefore, I will not be either shopping or recommending this place. Claiming to be Christian servants and pocketing unheard-of prices doesn't seem to be compatible. By the way, it's not Encore anymore, its Hope Christian Ministries Thrift. read more
