I went to their website and this shop popped up as a dealer location. I was intrigued since I hadn't heard of it before. I have to admit that when I first walked in, I thought I was in the wrong place. The front of the store isn't really outdoor gear. I lot of it is women's casual clothing. Then I started noticing things in the back. They have a pretty extensive collection of Darn Tough wool socks. Many of the styles were limited edition ones that I've never seen anywhere else. They had some other outdoorsy clothes in the back. I was impressed with the amount of Marmot items they carry. There were some outdoor gear items in a small section in the very back, but it doesn't seem to be a big part of their business. One of the items that stood out to me was the Sea to Summit Aeros inflatable travel pillow. I wish II'd had one of those for my flights to and from Hawaii earlier this year. The cost is similar to a regular travel pillow, but it's inflatable so it doesn't take up much space when you aren't using it. I asked about the Arcteryx gear. They said Arcteryx doesn't work with small shops like them anymore. It isn't their fault that they're still listed as a dealer, but I was disappointed about it. However, I expect I'll head back in a month or so when they get their winter stock in. I suspect they'll have some good winter jackets and gloves, and I really want to take a closer look at all the Darn Tough styles they had. Wool socks are so good for keeping your feet warm in the winter. And I just might pick up an Aeros pillow while I'm there, too.

Back Country Outfitters is kind of a mini REI, with knowledgeable staff, an interesting meandering layout, and a nice selection of outdoors gear, women's' clothing, travel bags and gifts. Service is where they really stood out. When I explained the situation, they promised to put a rush on the tailoring in case events happened more quickly than expected. Turns out, hours later I was calling as she'd passed away, with still unclear timeline on services and when I'd need to travel to be at them. Luckily, it turns out the rush was no joke. Less than 6 hours after getting fitted for the new suit, I was picking it up from Mr. B's. Everyone there knew of my situation and was there to make sure everything turned out perfect. Fit was fantastic, and they were careful to make sure I'd considered all the accessories I needed to go with it. This service was really beyond what I could have dreamed of. Years ago, I noticed that the dress shirts I wore for work that continued to stay in my rotation and I received the most compliments on were all from Backroom/Henry's. Their service is always the best, and you truly get your money's worth. I'm in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe following my weight loss and Henry's/Mr. B will be my primary source for any categories they offer.

I swear that I'm walking into a Portland Oregon shop (like Tanner or Machus) when I see the unique collection of leather goods, outdoor accessories (like Filson) and associated fashion (like waxed jeans from Red Clouds Collective of Portland). It's fun to look around and imagine the possibilities. They have their own leather shop in the back and they will do custom orders. I asked that take one of their passport holder designs and add a "flap and snap" feature to keep it all together better. That was done, mailed, and in my hands within a couple weeks.

But, in fact, they usually are!! I honestly believe that Kohl's offers everyone an outstanding value on almost all of the products they sell. Their prices on goods are both reasonable and fair, and offer solid value for price paid. All of their stores are exceptionally clean, well stocked and the merchandise is attractively displayed. And Kohl's does an excellent job of hiring. Their employees are courteous, professional, well informed , helpful and friendly! What's not to like about Kohl's?
