What a cool place! You almost need to dedicate a weekend to look at everything in this antique mall. There's great parking and it was easy to find. There are isles upon isles of antiques. I even found an amazing handmade soap there. There are pieces at all price ranges. One of the vendors even struck a deal with my mom on a lunchbox right there! I live fairly close to the Brass Armadillo, and so come here often. Reading through reviews, I am stymied by people saying they don't find much in the way of antiques. IMHO they're not looking! Yes this glorious store is full of newer, craft, vintage and other collectibles; the only antiques they may be a bit shy on is furniture. But there ARE antiques here too, if you know what you're looking for. At any rate, this is my favorite go-to for general browsing; I've always found good values here and many Christmas and birthday gifts for friends and family. Prices are good to expected (there are some "New Age" type booths/cases that have items priced a bit high, but that's not the store's fault), and it's so much fun stumbling across those unexpected finds at exceptional prices! (Like the excellent quality carved nephrite jade carved bear I found there recently at approximately half of it's "jade-shop" price.) They ARE here! Closing, I've got to say I've never found the people at check-out, as well as every employee I've ever encountered here, to be anything other than friendly and helpful. Every time I drive by Brass Armadillo I want to go. But I've never been able to in the past because I'd be driving extremely early or too late. However this time, I FINALLY got to go to the infamous Brass Armadillo. And it was worth the wait. The inside is HUGE. There are endless aisles absolutely packed full of antique trinkets and goodies. Seriously, you could spend all day here. There is absolutely everything you can think of here. From old dishes (like those Shrek glasses that got recalled because of lead? Yes they have those) to knit vintage blankets. They have EVERYTHING. If you like vintage goodies or unique knick knacks, this is the place for you. read more

While walking around the store I found a siamese cat and put it up front on my pile. When checking out it wasn't there and was told there wasnt a tag on it and couldnt buy it. The employee who told me this was rude about it and was raising her voice at us saying we could either call the owner the the slot or find the price tag(18.50). A well manage and well staffed more. However, I would not call it an antique mall. The antiques were limited to two or three showcases with antiques. The rest of the merchandise was new collectibles and garage sale items. Also a lot of gift items that could be purchased in any gift store. If you're looking for stuffed animals and newer bric-a-brac this is the place to go. The selection is huge but if you're looking for antiques, skip it. read more

Has become a regular stop on our way North from Texas. Give yourself several hours; it's huge! Clean bathrooms and vending machines.

Called ahead to see if they were pet friendly and they said "Yes, absolutely! We even have dog strollers!" My dog and I had to leave because they forgot to mention that their pet friendly policy only applied to small or purse dogs. Not blaming them for the store policy, I was upset by the poor communication and inconvenience. I wasn't going to leave my dog in the car so I had to leave. Kinda spoiled the whole experience so I didn't go back after bringing him home. read more

I was surprised at how BIG this place was! There's rows of WELL CLEANED display cases FILLED with items as well as some open spaces. My husband and I spent a few hours just looking through everything. It was GREAT! Some items are way too overpriced, but then there are vendors who are very fairly priced. I ended up finding a gorgeous sterling silver necklace with an amber gem at a FANTASTIC price! Unfortunately I don't live nearby, but I'd MOST DEFINITELY go back next time I drive through the area! If you are looking for tatty MAGA wear and blue line merchandise, this is the "antique mall" for you. It seems like there are fewer and fewer booths with vintage or antique items and more filler junk. This used to be one of my favorites, but it's really gone downhill. There are other fantastic vendor booth stores in town that offer better selection. read more

Super neat place where you can easily spend hours. The facility is enormous and well organized in my opinion. I saw a little area with snack machines and coffee - I didn't check it out but the coffee is either free or very cheap. It seems that each cubbie is rented by someone on consignment for them to sell their items so many of the cubbies are quite thematic. There are certainly plenty of items I would not call antiques. I was a little surprised about most of the prices I saw (being high in my opinion) especially for many items that are not rare, collectable, or in mint condition. I'm not sure if there are any guidelines or requirements set by the business regarding pricing. My favorite section of the store are the cases to the right when you walk in the door because that's where the jewelry is! As is reasonable, these cases are enclosed and locked. My biggest disappointment is that there were several pieces I was interested in but I didn't want to go through getting an employee over to unlock a case so I could look at a piece and then watch me as I contemplate buying and perhaps decide not to. It's just stressful for me.. like I feel obligated to make the purchase for taking someone's time and the need to decide quickly while under scrutiny. This isn't their fault and it's just a hang up of mine.. I can't think of a better way for them to run it and, again, it is all really well organized. I do wish that rings were displayed including their size because that would help with purchasing decisions prior to bringing over a staff member. read more

I'm surprised at the people bitching about prices. This is an antique mall. A LARGE antique mall. It's full of merchandise sold by MANY, MANY different consignors. They all set their own prices. What may seem a little pricey might be found in the next booth for half that price. I'm guessing the people complaining about prices are new to antiques, thanks to the "vintage" trend brought on by reality TV. Let me just explain that the dorks on American Pickers rip people off, and Pawn Stars is even more staged than American Pickers is. So you can't get an education on item values from those shows. I've made the rip over to Des Moines several times, and I always make time for the Brass Armadillo. But be forewarned: you might want to set aside anywhere from 2-4 hours if you want to get through the whole place. There's a lot to see in here. Fortunately, they have a nice little area with some tables and vending machines where you can give your feet a break and have a snack if you need to. Finally, the folks who work here are VERY friendly and helpful. And what I especially love about the place is that when you first walk in, you can grab a map of the place and a pencil, so you can mark down items you're interested in so that you don't have to try to remember later on where you saw them. If you like antiques and cool items from your childhood, check this place out! Everything from legitimate 1800's antiques to cool stuff from the 80's and 90's! read more

I happen to really enjoy this place. I could spend most of the day in here because there is so much to see. I hate shopping so that really says something. It sort of reminds me of the shops in Valley Junction with the convenience of it all being in one building. They have gemstones, fossils, crystals, and antique jewelry which I LOVE because it has been hard for me to find a place in Iowa where I can purchase stones at a good price for my artisan jewelry business. I love that they have newer things and old things... Great place to find items you can up-cycle. They have a variety of vendors with booths too. I like that you have the option to hold items you would like to purchase up at the front. They give you a number and assign a tray to hold your items behind the counter so you can continue shopping Without having to carry it the whole time. They also have refreshments and a seating area inside. Very helpful staff, maps and pencils are handed out so you can remember what you saw and where you saw it. I took my mom with me when she was visiting from California. Next time I'll take my boyfriend, he loves shopping just as much as I do. ;) read more

Love this place. Lots of awesome bargains, good quality items, and collectibles. This is always one of the first places i check for pieces missing from collections i have. Stopped out Tuesday (10/24/17) evening. I was looking for a few things and purchased 5 or 6 items. One was a primitive and simple three foot long bench. I got it home and realized the leg was broken. I also could tell only part of the bench was old and part was new wood, painted to look old. Anyway, I took it back Wednesday and they would not refund, give me a credit, or have the dealer contact me. I couldn't believe it. Absolutely no ability or interest in resolving the situation. I put the bench on the counter, finished breaking off the leg, and left. I will never purchase anything there again and will tell as many people about my negative experience as possible! If you purchase items at the Brass Armadillo, I suggest, you look everything over very carefully before you purchase. I've decided to start calling this place "The Brass Dildo"...Cold, Heartless, and completely unsatisfactory. read more
