It is located on DC's 14th Street, commonly referred to as Canvas on 14th. The space has indoor and outdoor areas as well as a catering wing (outside vendors are allowed to use that). The event I attended was on the second floor. The space has an outdoor terrace overlooking 14th Street and the inside has high ceilings, causing an even more spacious effect. It was warm outside and I'm not sure if there was air conditioning because it was cooler outside then in. There was no elevator and as a person with mobility issues it was difficult, often painful, to reach the second floor where the service took place. The staff were pleasant mostly except when they asked us to go back downstairs for the cocktail hour, I refused because I knew that I would not be able to climb the stairs again. Cocktail hour was a joke since there were 2 bartenders to handle 200+ guests. I never got a cocktail or cool beverage - NOTHING WAS ON ICE! Not even the champagne. This venue was obviously not meant for this number of people - there were 2 unisex bathrooms with a total of 4 stalls - always a line, the caterer (required to use by the venue) was horrendous with all the food cold, drinks not cold and not enough. I'm sure that the bride and groom never noticed a problem, but when you leave such an event you shouldn't be figuring out where you want to go to eat. MY RECOMMENDATION - do not use this venue for more than 20 people.

You use your own cater for an event, so won't comment on the food here. The coolest part about using this event for a wedding is that the building is several levels and they utilize the space really well. For example, they flipped the ceremony room into the reception room and had the guests go downstairs for cocktails & hors d'oeuvres. Meanwhile, the wedding party went and took pictures in other areas. The only poor thing I have to say about the place was during the ceremony, the one window was directly in the sunlight so it made one side of the aisle really bright and difficult to see. But everything else was so great the place deserves five stars.

We did run out of wine with about an hour left to the event (and we only had beer and wine and two signature cocktails) which was super disappointing, but we made the best of it. After our first call with Laurentis , we were confident that they understood our unusual ideas and our goals. And our ideas were unusual. The central theme, a French Inspired Organic wedding, had raised some eyebrows, but it was embraced by the Savvy Orchid team. Their enthusiasm with our vision gave us the confidence to fully pursue our quirky ideas, and their blunt honesty ("It's not going to happen") reined us in when we went a bit too far. They put together a dream team of creative and ambitious vendors, each of whom were a perfect mix of quirky and professional. Though we were on opposite ends of the country at times, it was easy for us to stay on the same page with Laurentis via email, text ,phone calls and FaceTime (yes, FaceTime). Due to scheduling restrictions, we had to cram vendor meetings into four short trips. Despite the hectic schedule, they were endlessly patient and always on top of what was happening. We were so confident with Savvy Orchid's progress that halfway through we asked them to plan a small, game-themed, bar hop bachelor/bachelorette party. As luck would have it, on the evening of our party an epic rainstorm blew in to ruin plans and prevent half of our friends from attending. Rather than succumb to defeat, they still made the wedding a HUGE success. The guests who could attend still brag about the party to anyone who will listen to this day. When the wedding day itself came, to say it was more than I expected is an understatement. Every phase of the wedding was amazing. Though there was a minor hiccup, nothing distracted us from having a wonderful time, appreciating one another, and sharing our love with our family and friends. North Hall is a fantastic venue that is located in the heart of D.C., only blocks away from the…read moreU.S. Capitol Building. The brick exterior coupled with the large white-walled interior provided the perfect "blank canvas" to backdrop our event. We hosted nearly 100 people and had plenty of room for a live band and bar. The reason this review earned three stars was because of venue management. An important aspect of North Hall is that they will not let you do any setup prior to the event unless you pay per hour. As an example: our event started at 5pm and we had to pay 500$ more to start setup at 3pm. The real issue arose when we were informed that we could not leave anything in a closet or kitchen in order to make the "day-of" prep easier. Management allowed absolutely nothing from entering or remaining in the space despite there being no event prior to our reception. On a positive note, the two hour setup window provided a testament to how amazing our vendors were; they created a beautiful space with no help from North Hall. The management induced plenty of undue stress by being unclear of what permits were needed for the event. They went on to remind us with little time to prepare. This issue manifested itself one week prior to our wedding day, where our wedding coordinator, my wife, and myself scrambled to get permits for food, alcohol, etc. Overall, North Hall is truly lovely, but future customers should be aware that this venue is fortified by the bureaucracy of Washington D.C. Much like your local trip to the DMV, illogical policies and the lack of regard for the individual reign supreme. Weddings are stressful and emotional, no one should have to deal with the inefficiencies of government and the shortcomings of bureaucrats on their special day.

(Very atrium like) Lots of green/brown marble surrounds you, and a huge elegant staircase it at one end. I can see the stairs being great for a speech or an entry to a wedding reception. If you are looking for an event venue down stairs this is worth checking out.
