Our server (I unfortunately forget his name) was amazing!! I know his face and will request his section when I come back. The hostess was insanely rude to our group, but our server greatly made up for her negative energy. The view from their patio is amazing, and I would recommend you sit out there if you can:-)

Philly, we are not welcome here…read more Meet Henry, the manager at Fringe Bar. As a Northern Liberties resident, I've visited Fringe Bar several times and have generally enjoyed the experience before my recent experience with the manager. Unfortunately, my visit on June 13 around 4:30 PM completely changed my opinion of this establishment. My friend and I were seated and waited nearly 20 minutes before our food order was taken. Our server explained that their ordering system had gone down.... We were understanding and patient but to be honest it felt like she forgot. About 10 minutes later, we finally received our drinks, and our server shared that management had continued assigning her additional tables despite the issues, making it difficult for her to keep up. We sympathized with her and gave the staff plenty of grace. After waiting another 30 minutes, nearly an hour total since arriving, we still had not received our food. What made the situation even more frustrating was watching another table that arrived roughly 30 minutes after us receive their meals before we did. At that point, I approached Henry to ask about our order. I explained that we had been waiting for nearly an hour and that guests who arrived significantly later had already been served and they needed to hurry up with our food because we were hungry. Before I could even finish speaking, Henry interrupted me, stated that he would comp the food, and told us to leave. All I wanted was an explanation and asked that our order be prioritized after such a long wait. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, Henry immediately escalated the situation and effectively removed us from the restaurant. The interaction felt dismissive, unprofessional, and completely lacking in customer service. Even another manager appeared surprised by how quickly our order was canceled and how the situation was handled. The entire experience left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected. Mistakes happen. Delays happen. What determines whether customers return is how management responds. Unfortunately, Henry's arrogance, poor communication, and inability to handle a reasonable customer concern ensured that I will never return. The attached photos include timestamps documenting our visit and the lengthy wait and a photo of Henry so you can avoid him. DO NOT COME.

The latke was okay but it had way too much sauce for my liking (kewpie mayo and unagi sauce). The carrots and tomatoes were fresh and delicious, though the portions were small. The French fries were nice to order and pair with the NY strip and General Tso-Wich sandwich. For mains, the grilled branzino was delicious (though the portion was small), the NY strip was a bit chewy, and the General Tso-Wich had good flavor. For dessert, they put a sparkler since it was my birthday but I wish they offered a complimentary birthday dessert. Both the sponge cake and Olivia's pancake à la mode were too sweet for my taste. When we left, the hostess didn't greet or acknowledge us so I didn't think they were friendly or welcoming. Unfortunately, I don't think I would come here again to celebrate special occasions.

Started with a special, which was the brie (Garden Fresh Figs and Brie - Figs from our garden, Brie Couronne, House made Lavash cracker and candied pistachios) and cornbread (Fresh Baked Cornbread - pepper jack & slivered scallion, chipotle honey butter). Both of these dishes were amazing from start to finish. My entree was the bolognese (Slow Braised Spiced Lamb Bolognese - handmade pappardelle pasta, summer tomato, herbs and basil whipped ricotta) and it was heaven in a bowl - so rich and flavorful I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life. Am so glad to have been able to try this place.

Service- 5/5 Service was excellent! I received a warm greeting from the hostesses and was quickly seated. My server was also very quick to take my order, kept my water glass full, removed used plates from the table quickly, and was quite responsive to all requests. Really impressed with the service! Atmosphere- 4/5 It's beautiful inside. There's bar seating, outside seating, and a variety of spaces inside to sit. It is also quite "cozy." The pillows, dim lighting, and low floor lamps made for a really nice brunch. I'd go back just for the atmosphere. Value- 4/5 Great value! Nothing too expensive, and there are a variety of options at different price points. The service and atmosphere really make this a great option. Opportunities for Learning- 5/5 There are many learning opportunities! There are different seasonal options/ menus, many different dishes that would teach you something (ex., the Italian frittata vs. the French quiche), and some cool ingredients that would make you Google.

Honestly - I wanted to love this place, but it didn't hit all the way home for me. What it did hit home for me were the vibes. I loved the interior decor, the small homey vibes , and I could feel the love and passion that went into this place. Small inside, cozy, and I think I only saw a total of 3 staff that ran the place. I really wanted to love them! To be perfectly honest, I'm probably not the best reviewer for this spot. I eat 80% vegan .. and cannot not remember the last time I had beef prior to this meal. However - I didn't find it to be particularly mind blowing. It was cooked to a good temperature , served with salt for you to tailor to your taste and oh I can't forget to mention how much I loved the chefs homemade hot sauce ( which they do sell on site ! ) it was solid , but not something I was personally blown away by for $90 and not something I'd "cheat" on my diet for again to eat. I felt similarly about the striped bass. It was cooked well, but I found it under seasoned. Overall, I don't think it's the spot for me but I DO think it's the spot for many. I definitely recommend you check out this small humble restaurant and give them a shot. It's beautiful and warm inside, and you can feel the love in this establishment Check out Elwood!

The space is cozy and welcoming, and the service is always great. It's a perfect spot to have a family-style meal with family or friends (definitely go for the ham on Easter). They specialize in classic local recipes and techniques, but don't let that fool you on flavor. If you haven't had Pennsylvania Dutch food, etc. it's definitely worth going to Elwood to experience a great execution of this style. The menu is always changing, but expect large portions meant to be shared, so we always prefer going with large groups. We've had almost every dish on their menus so it's hard to go back and reflect on all of them, but definitely start with the pierogies, get your meat of choice, and order the funnel cake for dessert. You can't really go wrong!
