Scissorhands is my family's favorite with my two younger brothers regularly getting haircuts here. Andy is not as friendly as Miss Kim in Morrisville, but we recently had a nice conversation about the Korean language since I just started studying it. The cut was masterful, for sure, and followed the example I showed in a photo saved in my phone. Shampoo was included at no additional cost and I did not have to wait in my latest visit around Friday noon. I used to pay around $30 to $35 for a regular men's cut but the latest service, Andy charged me $40 (not including tips). As for the atmosphere, it's more spacious than their old location (where they shared space with other salons) but it's not as spacious as Hair News. Nonetheless, it's in a good location by High House Road, close to Cici's Pizza, a small Walmart market, and just less than 5 minutes drive away from HMart.

Something that could be maintained every 3-6 months as I have two small kids and a day job. After a few washes, the top was very dark with a bright section below it, so it looked grown out after just a week. Pictures attached. I messaged my stylist with photos of the result and of what I'd expected. She was responsive, suggested adding highlights to soften it, and booked me at her first available opening. I'd let her know at our prior appointment that I am on work calls during that slot, and she said that was fine the first time, I presumed it would also be for this one. Before she started the redo, I asked if we were totally clear on the look, and said I might not know the right technical terms, to correct me if i was saying something that wouldn't achieve that look, and we revisited the photos I had sent her. She said she absolutely knew what fix was needed. I was mostly working for the 2 hour appointment. On the one brief break I had, at the wash station, I read a book (ACOSH, IYKYK) and chatted with another stylist about what we thought so far. At the end, when it was improved but still not right, she was surprised i still wasn't happy and said that reaching the color in my photos would have meant "breaking my base", which she didn't do, because she didn't want to do that without asking me. The problem was, she never asked. I asked it if would be helpful to text my prior stylist so we knew what to do the next time. She said sure, and I asked her what exactly I should ask him. She said "ask if he used a brightener. Well, he might not know what a brightener is so you might call it ..." and I chirped in "oh he's been doing hair for 20 years, he's done Britney Spears hair even! I'm sure he'll know what it is" and sent off the text. All that said, it was much better than my original appointment and I told her while it wasn't fully what I was going for, it was fine, and I'd check with my previous stylist to see what treatment they did and see her in January. I thanked her on my way out and had already booked my next appointment.. That evening the salon texted that the owner decided I "may not be the best fit." His public reply to my Google review says I belittled my stylist and that other clients stopped to listen, which is odd given I didn't raise my voice, ask for a refund, or even ask for her to try anything further that day. I even bantered with one other stylist on our book. I gave honest feedback to someone so that we could eventually get it right. In my personal experience as a former business owner, rude customers making a scene (how the owners described me when n their response to my Google review) rarely book their next appointment on the way out. In any case, if you're a client who will speak up when your color isn't right, I'd book somewhere else.

Long story short, I love Laura. If you have a couple minutes feel free to read about our epic…read morecosmetologist-client love story below :) After moving to NC in 2009, I started going to the stylist used by my mother and some of my other female family members. I was happy to have found someone so quickly who knew my hair type in so many ways. Unfortunately about 2 years later, that stylist broke my trust on personal level and I decided to find a new hair mama. Fast forward to August 2015 after several fails with new stylists--Laura came into my life. I had spoken with her a few times outside the salon and she was always extremely willing to discuss and educate me about products, techniques, etc. I knew I liked her as a person, but was nervous to be disappointed again. Then, a coworker walked in with a seriously fresh cut and color, thanks to Laura. I booked an appointment and haven't looked back since. When I come for appointments with Laura, we discuss photos I have sent her and what is required to achieve them for my hair type. I have tons of fine strands with a slight hint of body, on a good day. Sometimes we go for it, and other times we decide it's not a good option for my lifestyle and maintenance routine. My **FAVORITE** thing about having Laura as my stylist is her absolute realness with me, and genuine desire to make sure I am happy with my outcome. That said, I got adventurous and we worked with a new color last year which a week later I decided was not for me. I have never felt comfortable asking a stylist to fix anything before. I was able to message Laura because she is the kind of person who wants to do right by her clients. (Side note: I have had several color treatments since then and all to my complete satisfaction.) Most recently I have let Laura start tinting my brows for me, and I am ADDICTED to it. I tint about every three weeks and she always works me into her schedule, sometimes while processing color on other faithful clients. I could go on but am fully aware of how ridiculous this review has become. Laura is awesome on so many levels of cosmetology and often times my underpaid psychologist. My lady love here is fierce and I am not ashamed to admit it! If you want to work with someone who consistently seeks to build her knowledge and is passionate about her craft, book with Laura. The end.

There is some confusion about how Sola works based on the reviews. I too was confused so I'll try…read moreto clear it up. That way you can make sense of all the wildly different reviews. First off, Sola is a new concept in salons. Each stylist rents a small space inside of Sola. These stalls operate as a separate business. Therefore, pricing will be different for each stylist (think of these as individual salons inside of the Sola building). My review is for Erica at The Hair Society. I saw Erica based on the reviews here. She's AMAZING. I just moved back from NYC. While I was there, I went to several pricey (and one famous) salons. Erica beat them all hands down. She's a wizard with color. I'm light blonde and like a lot of dimension and contrast. Not many people can do it well. After Erica did it, I have a new standard! I got a great haircut too. The other thing I love about Erica is she takes her time and consults with you. Frankly, I felt like a celebrity because I had a private room (this is a big advantage of the Sola concept). I didn't feel like she was just trying to get through my services while someone else was on deck being shampooed. You know what I'm talking about, right? When you feel rushed because it is Saturday in the salon. I got none of that. I honestly can't wait to go back. Anyway, Erica is amazing! I'm so happy to have found someone so excellent so close.
