I never walked into a hair salon sight unseen and left satisfied with the service, atmosphere AND the cut on the first try. I would have appreciated a greeting when I walked in, being my first time and unsure of the check in process, but that was the only low point. Mario listened to what I was going for and went to work. A few signs I thought were telling: he wasn't overly talkative, which I appreciate, he just focused on what I would prefer...my head. He used metal clippers which, in my experience, offer the best cut and never yank the hair out of my head. Lastly, he used a straight edge to trim up the edges and the shaving cream he applied was heated. Ugh...I have no idea why it's so hard to find a place like this in Orlando! All this for $20. I would EASILY have guessed that would have been a $35 men's haircut. Just go there, ask for Mario, tip him well and thank me later. read more

RUSANNE! I have been looking for you for months! My hair was in need of an extreme overhaul! I had been traveling and out of the country when my previous salon called to inform me on my answering machine that my appointment with Rusanne was now with another hair stylist. I was frustrated because I received the BEST HAIRCUT I have ever had when Rusanne cut my hair last time. Disappointed I just went without a hair cut for 6 months. Then, walking down the streets of Wake Forest, I found her! A sign in the windows at Creative Shears, that Rusanne was here! The hubs and I went in and made an appointment for my long overdue hair cut. Since he was in need of a new stylist himself he plopped down that moment and let Mario work his magic. A week later I was back for my appointment this morning with Rusanne. I arrived early and she was ready to assist me with my overgrown chia pet of a hairdo! I had a very good experience getting my hair done here! When you walk in you almost feel like you've stepped into a quaint hair studio you'd see in the suburbs of NY. And rightfully so, the owners and operators are from NY! As a Northerner I love to sit and chat with fellow Northerners about the area. I only went in for a simple trim but sent my mom in a few weeks later to get her hair cut, styled and colored. They did a fantastic job and she's quite thrilled with her "new do". Oh! So for a first time impression, there are some things that they need to work on. I made the appointment by phone and was told that the men's haircut was $20. I asked if that included a wash and he said, "Yes, if you want it." I said, "Ok, yeah. I'll get that then too." When I got there I was shown in right away and sat down to which my hair cutter, Angela, started cutting my hair. Didn't ask me if I wanted a wash or anything. I didn't think anything of it at the time. She was very nice and personable. We had a pretty cool conversation and the time just flew by. About 15 minutes later, while we were talking, she started to take off my apron. I asked, "Are we done?" She said, "Yep." I thought, "Wow this can't be it." I told her about four different things that I wanted her to touch up (thin up my side burns, clean up the hair around my ears, round out the back, and make my bangs straight). I know I am a guy, but I like a quality hair cut which is why I didn't go to Sports Clips. I asked her for the mirror to look at the back of my head. I would have just appreciated her asking me what I thought, like what most hair cutters do out of courtesy, instead of jumping the gun. They were nice and I would like to go there again, but I don't feel as though I should have to direct them on how to give me a simple trim. Although I have been to Creative Shears many times since my first visit, today's visit reaffirmed how professional the stylists are and I felt I had to write an update. The story begins several weeks ago. Being a true procrastinator I waited to call for an appointment with Mario until a few days before Valentine's day. Alas he was booked solid. I was in dire straits and had no choice but to return to Ye Old Cutting Corral (insert mass hair cutting chain name here) so my wife would not be having Valentine's dinner with a shaggy dog. Long story short I got a haircut but it was no where near the quality I had become accustomed to from Creative Shears. I was joking with my wife that it is very interesting that I used to get a haircut at the other place all the time and thought it was fine and never knew the difference. Once I found Mario at Creative Shears there was no going back. Fighting my urge to procrastinate I called and made an appointment with Mario early in the week. When I arrived Mario greeted me by name (hey, even though he probably just read my name from the appointment book I can pretend right?). I sat down and we chatted about the Olympics and various other happenings as he began making me look human again. The difference was amazing as he layered, blended, and did whatever magic he does to make my wife comment that my hair looked great and stop threatening to kick me out until I got a haircut. As always he broke out the straight razor which I must admit is probably my favorite part of the whole experience. I really like this place. Mario took me as a walk-in. He talked to me about how my hair grew and the best way to cut my hair. Then he used many tools on me, and ended up with a great cut. Of course you can't forget the straight razor shave on the neck and back of the ears. He made sure I was satisfied with my hair cut before he removed the apron. He even trimmed up my goatee and made it look better than it has ever been. read more

Got a good haircut here, but just didn't click with my stylist. Also got my brows done, and they looked great. When it came time to pay, they only took checks, so I asked my total, and wrote out a check including a generous tip for both ladies. After handing it to the stylist, she told me that she forgot to charge for my brows... Causing me to write another check with tip. (The first check included a tip for both of the ladies -- so in essence they were able to get a bit more $$ out of me.) Sure I could have asked for the first check back, and torn it up, and re-written.... But felt awkward doing that. It was an honest mistake on the stylists part.... But perhaps next time a little good will for a first time customer would have gone a long way. Nothing against the service I was given, but I think that I will shop around. read more

My 2 boys and husband have always had their hair cut by Mario at Creative Shears. He is patient, kind and professional. My kids never fail to look handsome after their cuts. Had Mario fit me in this morning for a cut even though I was in a bit of a hurry. As usual, he was excellent - everything trimmed carefully, warm lather and straight razor on the neck, mustache and accessories all trimmed and thinned in Mario's conscientious way. Never felt rushed, and yet all was complete in a reasonable time and I made it to work looking sharp for the day - Thanks Mario. The haircut was excellent, and only cost me $25. My stylist Patrick easily understood what I was going for, and used a variety of tools to create exactly the look I was going for. Although he is not a man of many words, it is clear that he cares about doing a great job for every customer. I walked in and was seen very quickly. However, Patrick made the point that scheduling an appointment ahead of time is usually necessary to have such an expedient experience. Had my first visit here for a haircut after my previous stylist flaked out on me 1 too many times. So, 1st bonus - I was happy that the phone was answered by a human being rather than voice mail asking me to leave my name and number. 2nd bonus - they are willing to stay after hours if you have an appointment. I got there and was taken back to have my hair washed while stylist was finishing up with a previous client (I love efficient but customer focused business models). I just showed the stylist some pictures of what I was looking for and she nailed it for what I was wanting. Now, I made myself reserve judgment until I got home to really see my haircut and the only thing I was surprised that didn't happen was a "consult" before getting my hair done. But after it is all done, that wasn't necessary at all. There was no fishing for where did I get my color done or previous haircuts, which I greatly appreciated. So all in all, I definitely will be back to this salon and the way things went. read more

This salon is not consistant with prices. I go in every six weeks for color, cut and everytime I go in the total price is different and is always higher. I have called it quits there when my last total was $197.00 plus a tip. I have short hair and only had highliights on the crown area and a cut. When I started going to the salon two and a half years ago the cost was about half the amount. But what bothers me is that how come I get charged something different and I get the same thing done? The owner does not even cut my hair well - it is uneven and I go home a re-cut it to make it even. I am really unhappy with the way a loyal customer is treated. The salon has also lost two other neighbors of mine for the same reasons! I hope they get their act together! I have found a new place to go which is a little farther away but worth the drive - for half the cost and a better cut and style! read more

one star only because I can't give them 0 stars. i'm new to the area so finding a new salon can be hit and miss so I went based upon reviews. this was the absolute worst experience have ever had with a haircut. as a new client I explained to the hair cutter (not stylist I will love names out) what I wanted and how I should be cut for the look I like. Instead of giving me 5 minutes in the chair and understand what it was I was looking for she went right to wash and then cut. 12 minutes later she was done. she did absolutely everything she wanted to do with my hair instead of what I wanted, in the end I left with what looks like an uneven bowl cut. I went home and my husband who always comments on my hair after a cut didn't know what to say other than it looks like she didn't finish the job. Im now forced to wait it out for 3 weeks while it somewhat grows out and I can get it cut somewhere else. I would have said something to the manager who is actually the owner, but she was yelling at another client who dared to complain about her cut, and actually told her to leave. I left and will never return. In all this was a second rate experience. read more

I can't speak for lady's haircuts but for the gents, Mario is top notch! He simply asks what you want and then executes. I probably over- researched for someone to give my firstborn son his first haircut and Mario is who I chose. He cut my boys hair exactly how we asked and had a very calming presence. My son sat in my lap with a lollipop while Mario gave him a great cut. We won't be going anywhere else from now on. A lot of these so called local barbers are just plain bad. went to salon 3 times so far. haairdresser does pretty much what she wants highlights not to even . not up to date with current hairstyles. prices seem to vary every visit. found another salon had a haircut, blowout, full head of highlights for half the price. wonderful results i might add . very pleased with new salon. read more
