Im sad to write this I brought my son today to get a perm and cut, perm was done, I ask the hairdresser to please cut he's hair since only 1/2 of the hair was perm she said she didn't know how and also did have the tools to do it. To go to a barber! at 4 pm on a Saturday my son look bad 1/2 of he's hair was curly the other 1/2 was straight. Thank god I was fortunate to find a barber that was willing to take him last minute. We paid almost $300 to get him a perm and no cut. Horrible experience we will never come back. Update: I'm shocked that you think he look great he was embarrassed and upset. I understand you guys are not barbers, I was clear and ask her please cut the straight hair he look extremely bad. She refused and ask me to go find a barber on a Saturday at 4 pm ‍. I am seriously over the moon to have found Alex at Studio One Seven Salon. I have been looking for "my person" ever since moving to Castro Valley 6 years ago- and honestly even before that in San Mateo. Alex has taken my hair to the most beautiful red, and has been completely transparent and honest about pricing, which is greatly appreciated. I sometimes feel slightly socially awkward but she is such a pleasure to work with- totally natural, relatable and unpretentious. I actually looks forward to my appointments with her! DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON IF YOU HAVE CURLY/TEXTURED HAIR AT ALL (or healthy hair you care about). I had a horrible first and definitely last experience with this salon last year that has unfortunately followed me into the new year. I booked a service with a stylist LEE YEE for a Keratin treatment & root touch up in late September 2022. Leading up to the service, I made sure three specific times it would not damage/alter my natural curl pattern, because they advertised how it would only manage frizz and improve the health of my hair. This was a straight up lie. My hair was a healthy 3c/3b mix. The whole time the keratin was in my hair, it looked so flat, zero volume, dry, dead, limp, probably 2a curls at the MOST, basically lifeless. They told me in 4-6 months my hair would return back to normal. More white white lies. After following their instructions, I continued to wash my hair & be patient & wait for the keratin to come out. Every single time I washed my hair I would see nothing but very limp, dry, barely curly hair that never felt the same to the touch again. The only thing they could do for me was issue a worthless refund, because they have absolutely no idea how to handle POC's hair (in this case someone from the mixed black community), which is very common & frustrating in a small town especially in Castro Valley. I later went to the Paul Mitchell beauty school in the city where they told me my hair was 100% ruined by whatever treatment they used, and to continue bringing nothing but moisture to my hair. I still have about a whole year until I grow out my new hair which is something they'll never understand & had ZERO empathy for what they truly did. The daily maintenance/overcompensation to make my hair look presentable every single day is very frustrating and a lifestyle I did not pay for. They have no soul, no heart, and no class at this establishment. This is why all their clients have fine, thin, processed hair. This business should only accept clients they know they cannot fail. Which is something they FAIL to do time and time again. The stylist LEE YEE never responded back to any of my messages after I caught her in her lies and confronted her about it in a professional manner. Whoever the owner is, whatever her name is, I pity her for the second hand embarrassment I caught from watching how she handles situations like this. She'd rather hide behind the refund she issues, can't handle anyone who doesn't "fully understand" their lack of empathy, professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ignorance that they simply don't care if they're not making money off your time. This is the most cliché, typical thing to happen to someone w curly hair who walks into a salon like this one right here. The dismissive, micro aggressive, very fake attitude from the owner and entire establishment is a form of racially motivated behavior I am no stranger to. I can see right through it and I let them know directly. I've also noticed by the other reviews the owner has nothing but CONSISTENT EXCUSES to cover her dreadful face of the company. I can honestly not rave about this salon enough! Angela has been doing my hair for a little over two years now and I have been nothing but ecstatic after every single appointment! I found Angela initially through a friend who had gone to her forever, but what made me schedule a consult was finding out that she does hand tied extensions (not all extensions are the same!). Long story short, I have had her do my extensions since 2017 and I couldn't be more pleased. Coming from someone who has had every type of extension from clip-in to microbead to tape-in and everything in between, Angela has crafted a method that is hands-down the best and most comfortable to wear while simultaneously maintaining the integrity of my hair - which my own hair has grown so long in this process! Not to mention, I get compliments on my hair ALL. THE. TIME - both color and style. Every appointment is seamless and enjoyable, which is saying a lot because some can be 4+ hours, but the entire salon makes you feel so welcome and I especially enjoy when Angela's daughter is in on my appointment days where she occasionally assists in the coloring or drying process because I love catching up with the two of them! Additionally, they are so considerate of their clients - I have asked a couple times "how to curl my hair 'this way'" or the likes, and they take the time to explain and show me - yay! Usually I go to a different spot in Castro Valley for quick and dirty trims to my hair, but I made myself a big girl hair appointment at Studio One Seven Salon as a treat to myself and I don't regret it one bit. The salon itself is so cute and modern with lots of natural light and a pleasant airy feeling. I booked my hair cut with Alex, who was so sweet and helpful. She started by asking me a couple questions about what I wanted from my hair, which took me aback as no one had ever asked me such in depth questions about my hair desires before! Hah. When she started making cuts she would periodically stop to ask if I was happy with the direction the cut was going and very kindly would insert her professional advice. I'm really easy going and tend to trust my professionals, so I was happy to listen to her vision and allow her to work her magic.
