I really appreciated that they took my age into account when we set up the appointment. Aging skin is thinner than younger skin and I needed someone who was experienced with working with aging skin. I had David Doty who was perfect! The vibe is very relaxed and calm. The people who worked there lined each other and it made for a pleasant and safe environment. Beware! Avoid any tattoo artist that refuses to give their hourly rate or an estimate on how long they think a session will take, and then refuse to meet with you when you ask - like David Doty @ Studio Lumos Tattoo. Pretty sketchy. If you like his style, go to Wendi Kai in Springfield, OR - she is waaaay more talented and is fair and transparent with pricing, although she does have a waiting list, but it is absolutely worth it. Backstory: I talked with David 2 months ago, as I wanted 3 very small, very simple things done plus one larger piece. He quoted me $1000, which I thought was a lot, but I assumed, foolishly perhaps but in good faith, that was the max I should expect to pay but most likely less. So fast forward, we're scheduled to meet tomorrow, so I text him as I am curious to see if he has anything sketched up yet and, since I can't remember if he mentioned it, I ask him his hourly rate and how long he thinks it will take. He responds right away that he doesn't do hourly rates, that I should go to someone else, and he's cancelled our appointment. (In all fairness, they do state on their website they don't do hourly rates, which I hadn't seen.) I was simply seeking information to clarify his pricing, not haggle or insult him. I even responded that I didn't have an issue with his pricing and I really wanted to keep the appointment, but nothing. I'm sure he is talented and I'm always happy to pay top price for a good tattoo, but I've never experienced such unprofessional and what seems like childish behavior. As for owner/management, it seems obvious this is the first time they've ever run a business of any kind. I wish them all the best... read more
