The customer service is always on point but the stylists are hit or miss. I had hair extensions done here which were $800 that were so bad I had them removed after 6 weeks. In that same time frame, I had been seeing a stylist here for over a year that worked MIRACLES on my damaged from color treatment hair, but she moved away and I went back trusting that the studio itself staffed qualified stylists -- I found out that was simply not the case. I went in with 16 inch hair, asking for a simple face framing bob style haircut...2 hours later, it's short, but terribly styled: no layers, and she cut it with a part so if hair falls on the opposite side of my head, it's about 2 inches longer than the rest of the hair on that side -- a "bob" should be layered to fall evenly. $80 later I'm now looking for a stylist to actually style my hair, not take 2 hours to just cut 5 inches off, and somehow mess even that up. Wonderful personality, made me feel extremely comfortable and relaxed during my cut. Her cutting skills are the best I've received in the Nashville area. am new to the Nashville area and love my hair salon in Marietta Ga. Was prepared to make the 7 hour RT to Ga to get my hair colored & cut! After some research online and conversations with women familiar with salons in Nashville area, I hesitantly made an appt at Studio Gaven. I am 74 and had never had better salon than my previous one in the Atlanta area- until now!! After spending time with me on the phone, Greg(?) determined what I wanted and which of their 60+ stylists might be a good fit. Missy was so concerned about getting exactly what I wanted and so attentive to small details! This is undoubtedly Nashville's premier color/cut salon. I expected to pay more for the quality of services provided- and I did! But great looking color/cut is important to me and well worth the extra $$$. I did get the lead on the BEST balayage in Nashville though (if you care, its where Kelly Clarkson, Jack Black, all the celebrities go) its called Sweet One and its in 12 South. Annie did my highlights, she was so sweet and did one of the best highlight/lowlight jobs I've ever received. Bethany cut my hair and the cut is exactly what I wanted. Been coming to Studio Gaven for a couple of years now and seeing Lisa K. She does a great job and for the first time in my life I can get a cut and color done in under 3 hours! I have really thick naturally wavy/somewhat curly/unruly/tangly hair. One stylist at another salon once took 30 minutes just to detangle and comb my hair out after washing it and nearly pulled my hair out of my scalp. I've always liked and worn my hair really long most of my life because any attempt at a cut above my shoulders ended up with me looking like a mop on my head. But after just being fed up with my long hair getting matted so easily, I had Lisa cut it short up to my chin. And I loved it! And I have liked my highlights and color better here than anywhere else in the past. I'm pretty low maintenance and just highlight to match my natural highlights, and she does a great job! They have some great product recommendations, which I've bought and it has helped with the curly frizz and tangling. But BEWARE, you pay a hefty price for these salon grade products. My small bottle of serum was $50!! But I love the stuff so I'm OK with that. Bottom line. If you have difficult to deal with hair, or just want great color, I'd recommend Lisa. Oh, and they'll serve you a glass of wine, soda, or bottled water when you walk in. Staff is courteous and professional. read more

I have disliked my hair for years...it was thin, never seemed to be healthy, and no stylist that I went to seemed to ever have any suggestions. One evening, I unexpectedly had some free time and I was desperate for a hair cut so I randomly started calling salons. Studio Gaven was able to fit me in and I met my new stylist Kristen. Everyone I've had contact with at the salon has been superb, but I cannot rave enough about Kristen! She listened, made suggestions, explained everything, and is simply the best!! I now have healthy hair with gorgeous color and shine and a stylist that I actually love going to see! A shout out to Victoria too, who makes getting shampooed magical! read more

I've been to Studio Gaven before but it has been a year or two ago. Although I was not impressed, it was not a bad experience. So I few weeks ago I went back, as I had an interview and had 2 days to find a salon that could fit me in. I couldn't have been more disappointed with the results, especially after dropping close to $200 on a cut and highlights. I thought it was bad, but I had a friend (also a hair dresser) look at it yesterday and she was appalled by the cut and by the way it was colored. The cut was jagged, completely uneven with lots of longer pieces completely missed and had no layering to help it blend or lay well. Also, I asked for full highlights, and according to my friend, they didn't touch the bottom layers (so basically a partial, not a full which I paid for). Also, most the time when I've had highlights, they will sprinkle in low-lights to make the end result a bit more natural-looking (as per my request at the beginning of the appointment). There are no low-lights and so now I have quite a bit of contrasting colors, plus it's not nearly as light as I requested (he said to go that light would take a white/a few appointments - I have dark blonde hair, so it shouldn't have been that difficult). So at this point, my friend has fixed the cut and I'll just go somewhere else next month for the color. I would NOT recommend Studio Gaven and I will NOT return again. I suggest finding another salon in Franklin (Juel, A Moments Peace, etc) or even go to Super Cuts.... I imagine you'll get better results there. read more

I went here for a couple of years. Until the girl I had been going to distroyed my hair with HORRIBLE layers and color that didn't go with my skin tone. I went back for a "fix" and she actully told me that she was surprised I came back because she knew that the cut was so bad the first time. Did she offer a discount on the "fix"? Nope, full price -- again. I did have one "run in" with Gavin. He insulted me, and I said, "Uh, I don't know you..." and instead of introducing himself, he turned and walked away. I know this place specializes in color but they are also great at cuts. After a few bad haircuts at "the best" Nashville salons I made an appointment with Julie. She was fabulous. I even took my boyfriend there to get his hair cut. (How I managed that is unknown even to me) She could see my vision and made it happen, plus she has an awesome attitude and great hair. I highly recommend her. The salon itself is okay. A little bigger and colder than it needs to be and Gaven is nowhere to be found. Jackie has the worst personality of a hair stylist I have ever encountered! I have been coming to Studio Gaven for almost 10 years and loved it until tonight. I made a same day appointment for a haircut and had Jackie as my stylist since she was available for my schedule. It was my first time with her. The following are why Studio Gaven has lost me as a loyal and lucrative client: She never properly introduced herself, she just walked up and said "I'm Jackie, follow me" and started walking back. Um, anyone teach you manners? I told her I needed more volume to my long hair and she said that "long hair was long hair, you either have long layers or it's all one layer...not much we can do". Ok...is this what they teach you in beauty school??? I'm pretty sure top hair stylists are at the top for a reason...they can transform you! Not her apparently. She didn't tell me any of the products she was using on me - which is a sales tactic that she's lacking. I had to drag hairstylist suggestions out of her, which were not worth anything. Isn't this her day job? She smiled maybe twice during my entire session. This was after my cut was done and it was...wait for it...tip time! My hair looked decent. I mean it was long, so you know layers or not. I still gave her a 25% tip out of understanding that that's her livelihood but I will never go back to the salon again due to this terrible experience and cannot recommend it to anyone anymore. I just got a perm yesterday at Studio Gavin. I did not have a great experience, however. The stylist did not listen to me (I have curly hair, but decided to get a perm to unify the look). I asked for loose flowy waves and instead walked out looking more like Bozo. I feel like my input was disregarded and she kept saying "trust me". That'll never happen again! I have been using studio Gaven for the last five years. I'm shocked at their three-star rating on yelp prompting me to leave a review. My schedule tends to be unforgiving and highly variable so keeping appointments for my hair is quite difficult. When I miraculously get a couple of hours in the day, I will call Studio Gaven, and inevitably they will have someone available for cut and color. I know they are all so well-vetted that I will not be disappointed (as I understand it, they must all graduate from The Studio before Gaven will allow them to work at Studio Gaven). My only disappointment through the years have been due to my failure to communicate what I wanted properly. This is why I continue to make the drive from Nashville for their expertise. read more

I found this wonderful a salon one day when searching for a place to buy my favorite hair product. Much to my surprise, this salon was very close to my home. When I walked in the staff was very friendly and informative. I ended up going back to make an hair appointment and was set up with Jackie N. Jackie was so great; educating me on products that will help tame my fine, curly hair and she set a plan to support my goal to grow my hair into the style I am wanting. Over a year ago I became very sick and my hair suffered. Jackie was very understanding and explained what we can do to obtain my goal. She even talked me out of chopping my hair! I was so happy with my color and cut. I booked two more appointments with Jackie and plan to take my teenage daughter to Jackie as well! I am impressed that the salon is open seven days a week and everyone that works in the salon is helpful and educated! I highly recommend this salon. Worth every penny! read more

I went in with a brownish box color I had to do myself due to needing a quick fix to cover overgrown blonde highlights and came out a blonde again. It was my first time in the salon. I have a regular stylist I see elsewhere, but could not get in. So I went to Studio Gaven. I can't remember the name of the girl who worked the miracle, but I remember her foot was broken (or sprained?), had blonde-ish hair, and tattoos. She was great. She tsk tsked me at first for my at home job respectively, didn't promise something she was unsure she could deliver, and ended up delivering anyway. I loved that I was able to get a Saturday morning appointment with little notice, but felt like I was being upsold the entire time. Amy did a great job listening to what I wanted and had great ideas. I really liked her! A bit about the upsell....she conditioned my hair and a special mixture....I didn't realize it was a conditioning treatment that cost extra. When I went to pay, they started ringing up all of the products (Kerastase...great line, but I should be asked if I want to buy $40 shampoo...especially when I already told her I've used the line before and wasn't impressed) they used and I had to ask them to take them off my bill. I asked for a receipt and it seemed like it a big deal to get an itemized receipt...that's when I discovered the conditioning treatment was $25. They did a nice job, the salon is little too industrial and large for my liking, but the shady upselling will be the reason I won't go back. read more

This was my first time at Studio Gaven from a referral and I was greeted by nice front desk staff who promptly got me a glass of wine after a rough day at work. My hair stylist was nice and my hair turned out nice and afterwards I had an eyebrow wax with Kelly. I normally go to a spa across the street for my brows but my regular person who does them called in sick so I decided to try here since I was there. I wish I HAD NOT!! Kelly took 8 minutes on my brows. I have NEVER in my life had an eyebrow wax that fast and they looked basically the same as I went in. The person who normally does them takes 20 minutes! In no way was the visit peaceful, it was just quick hurry up and get out so I can get to my next client waiting outside. Sad to say since this was my last impression, I will not be back. Not only that but I saw the owner several times while I was getting my hair done and NOT once did he acknowledge any of us customers. As an owner if you're walking the floor you should be going up to your guests, ask them how their doing, take an interest in them, see what the hair stylist is doing. Just my opinion. read more

I have wavy and thick and coarse hair. I have been a client at Studio Gaven since 2005 after trying to color it myself. I have made appointments at the last minute if my regular stylist wasn't available. I feel as if I can trust anyone there because of the superior training they receive. Only once did I have the color turn out badly and that was at The Studio. When I discussed it with the stylist, she gladly did it again. I used to go to Van Michael in Atlanta many years ago because I felt that I could not rely on anyone in Nashville. I honestly feel that you cannot have a bad result at Studio Gaven. I have been going to Studio Gaven for more than a decade. My stylist recently left and recommended I try Lauren Coggins so I booked an appointment with her. Unfortunately I was getting my car serviced beforehand and arrived 13 minutes late due to the car dealer running behind. I checked in and sat up front waiting on her for a long time and she finally came up front around 2:35 to tell me she couldn't do my hair and could only do part of it that day because I had arrived at 2:30. I told her that wasn't true that I had been sitting there a while with a glass of wine waiting on her and she actually accused me of lying and said "no ma'am, I walked by the front and didn't see you up here." I was floored. She told me to reschedule but after your new stylist accuses you of being a liar, I couldn't. I left Studio Gaven crying my eyes out. I told her she was running a loyal customer off who has been there more than a decade by calling me a liar and she said "well, I guess that's too bad." I couldn't believe it. I felt a friendship to that place. I absolutely cannot believe I was accused of lying. I AM NOT A LIAR. She overlooked me. I have extremely thick and kinky hair, but Ivory turns it into silk. This studio uses Shu Uemura and Kerastase products, and you can tell with your hair's final product. The experience at this studio is wonderful and I have no idea what I'm going to do since I'm moving! I only have experience with Ivory and she is FABULOUS! After being a customer of Studio Gaven for three years, I decided to find another salon. I was repeatedly dissatisfied with both my haircuts and highlights at this salon. My stylist did not listen to me at all. I even brought pictures. When I called to tell them I was unhappy, they said their policy was that if you did not call them within 10 days, you had to PAY to have them "fix" what they did to your hair. I told them I called four times and left messages, but no one ever called me back. They are over-priced and over-rated and have had a complete turnover in employees. Happy employees do not leave. That should tell you something. The management is extremely rude and unprofessional. I would NOT recommend this salon to anyone and I will NEVER go back there again. They ruined my hair.
