Just walked out of my haircut with terribly damn hair and extremely disappointed in the whole experience. I made an appointment for 2:30 PM and the hair dresser called and asked if I could come in at 1:00pm, so I did. I got there and told the hair dresser the style I wanted and showed pictures. She then proceeded to insult my hair saying it was dry and dead. I explained I don't often cut or style my hair, which she seemed offended by. She then sent me to get my hair washed. The lady washing my hair used freezing cold water which got in my ears and down my neck. She washed my hair for a total of 3 minutes and I'm near positive she didn't even use conditioner. When I returned to the hair dresser for her to begin cutting, she continued to tell me how dead my hair was. She slid the scissors through my hair and cut it in a strange manner considering I told her over and over again that I wear my hair in a side part, not middle. She then sent me to another chair to get my hair dried. The same lady who washed my hair "dried" it. She waved a cold blow dryer back and forth a few times and then told me I was done - with my hair still being extremely wet (and it being 30 degrees outside). I then went to check out and was told my haircut was $10 more than what the booking showed. I begrudgingly paid. I asked for my coat and the man at the front huffed and explained he had a headache. From start to finish the whole thing was 20 minutes. I'm not even sure how my hair looks since I was rushed out with wet, messy hair. Marije was UH-MAZING! I went in for a blow out one Sunday evening after being so hesitant going to the salon since I've always done my hair by myself. But I came across DELAJ SALON on google, and booked an appt. I have always wanted to get a balayage but I was so nervous to ever getting it done because I've always dyed my hair BLACK. The day I went in for a blow out I explained to Marije how nervous yet excited I was for something new and I couldn't resist and I booked an appt for 2 weeks. I then came in for my NEW HAIR AND I MUST SAY I LOOOOOVE IT. Marije took her time with me and she made sure I knew what was happening next, she said she wanted to make sure my hair was in good condition and would take her time with me. I was very disappointed with my services here. For my curly cut, there was no consultation. No expectations were set, only thing I was asked was how much hair I wanted taken off. As a girl with fine loose curls/waves, it is very important that a hairdresser knows what they are doing. I've never had such a halfassed job done on my hair. Typically with a curly cut, the hair gets brushed out and given a rough shaping. Then it is washed and recut once the texture has been brought out. And after styling, touch up cuts are made. None of this happened. I had my hair washed, then cut. He put a hair dryer on my head, didn't even make sure it was properly placed, which it wasn't, and started on another client. Mind you, I had only been there for 30 minutes at this point. I had to move my head so that the rotating dryer wouldn't hit me with each pass. Then after it turned off, I sat there for 10-15 minutes with still wet hair, while my hairdresser was with another client. Finally when my hairdresser returned, he semi diffused my hair, and did not add any more product or ask follow up questions. Very disappointing experience to say the least. read more

Just another salon. Nothing spectacular. My previous hair stylist will spend 30-45 minutes on my haircut. They always made sure the cut was very thorough and exactly what I had in mind. A haircut in this place always felt rushed, even when I was the only customer in the entire salon. I pay the same price ($70-$80), but the haircut only lasts for about 15 minutes. I wish they spend a little more time with customers and not just go through the motions of trying to get it done as quickly as possible. read more

If I could take back ever stepping foot here I would. They completely botched my hair. Asked for very slight layers in the front and just a trim on my ends. The ends are completely different lengths and the layers/bangs are so uneven it's ridiculous. My cut itself lasted like 5 mins, when I told the stylist that it looked uneven she insisted that it was not and that it was because I wasn't doing the styling that I would not be able to tell. I was told I could come back to get it fixed but when I showed the same stylist what was going on, she really tried to tell me that it was not uneven but that she could fix it. That's when I decided to go somewhere else cause if she could not see the problem then there's no way she was gonna be able to fix her mistake. They also state there's a 20% off for first time customers. I even spoke to the owner on the phone prior and was told that the junior cut and no style would have that promotion applied. When I checked out they charged me full price and swore the 20% was applied. I called back because I knew they had over charged me and wanted clarification. I was the then told that the junior cut was already a promotion and they could not do the 20%. This whole experience was terrible. Thankfully I was able to go to another stylist who could not believe how my hair looked. She did the best she could to fix it but it is not where near what I wanted. I've had two experiences at Delaj. First was for my bachelorette party. I had my hair and makeup done. I felt the prettiest I ever felt in my entire life! Valentina(I think) did an amazing job. I had my clip ins put in by Miranda and she curled my hair. My hair was pure perfection. Everyone I encountered that evening couldn't stop staring! UPDATE 08/2020: I had another great experience at the salon. This time I was seen by Tina. I initially booked with Miranda but there was a scheduling conflict and Tina stepped in right away to accommodate. My experience with this stylist was great, she also has a sweet personality and also knowledgeable about hair like as all the staff there are. She did an amazing job with my hair color and styling my hair type! I will continue to make the trip from NJ to visit this salon because of their consistency, great service and impeccable work. I will attach pictures of my first color where i wanted to go from dark brown to a caramel honey balayage and then my most recent visit with Tina where I wanted to go much lighter and golden. Firstly, I took an Uber because there is no parking however, as I waited I realized parking is easily attainable on the street and even right in front of the establishment. Miranda was my stylist and she killed it (in a good way)!!! I had a balayage done; my hair is dark brown and I wanted a honey color similar to that of Tyra Banks or JLO notable looks. I was afraid of the brass that occurs when going from dark to light but not with the magic of this goddess! My hair looks AMAZING. Maria was the second stylist to blow out my hair. I have naturally curly hair and she also did a great job. The atmosphere in this place is relaxing and upscale. The hospitality is there for sure as the team is warm to everyone that comes through the door. I might also add that I was late to my appointment by they were incredibly accommodating. The place seems to be busy so I would definitely recommend being on time because I think I just got lucky this time around. I will definitely make this my new to-go place. I am used to having quality work and for the price I expected more. I ended up fixing the disaster of highlighting on my hair. I was told I shouldn't cut my hair and then I was told it would be an additional $50 to blow dry my hair. I am NEVER going there again and I DO NOT recommend. Too pricey and horrible results. First of all, they make you feel like royalty. Truly. They attend to you impeccably. Offering beverages, always at your service. The new site is gorgeous, with a huge skylight allowing natural light to pour in, which seems very appropriate for a salon. I had my hair colored by Marije, who was lovely to work with. She treated me like family. Together, we decided how we would bring my greying hair back to a more flattering dark color, while leaving a few grew streaks to decorate my face. The owner offered helpful creative feedback too. She did an excellent job and offered to touch it up the next day if I didn't love it. I did return the next day just to do a bit more. And they welcomed me graciously and attended to be immediately. They are not just talented and creative stylists, but they are truly lovely people who make you feel beautiful and part of the family. Came here a few times for a wash and blow out. I had Maria do my hair. She does great work when she washes she really takes her time and massages your scalp and foams the hair in a nice lather. She also styles my hair in a bouncy hairdo that stays for 3+ days without touch ups. I like the products she uses as well. I think the price (40$ for wash and blow out) is also reasonable. The first time I came was for hair and makeup for my maternity shoot and oh my god, I looked and felt gorgeous! And the photos came out perfect. The stylist gave me exactly what I wanted and was also really good with recommendations on looks when I asked. I came back today for a haircut and balayage at 4 months postpartum (and therefore wanting to chop my hair off due to the hair loss LOL) and my stylist (the owner) carefully heard me out, made recommendations when I asked (they're so good at that) and gave me the exact look I wanted! I had a beyond amazing experience here. Firstly, everyone was warm and welcoming. Secondly, the environment was hip and chic. Lastly, but most importantly, Miranda, LISTENED to what I really wanted and gave me EXACTLY that. I had a good experience the first time I went, so I tried again. This time, rather than doing what I asked the stylist just did what she wanted to with my hair. I told her to keep the same style just shorter (an inch) and the same style was not even kept and much more hair was cut off than I asked for, after I asked for a small fix amd when she was done she just continued to cut more hair off.
