I visited this salon a day before Thanksgiving, unfortunately I was running late and the original hairstylist I had made the appointment with could no longer take me in. Lumi stepped up and was an absolute Angel! She was willing to do cut, color and style. Even though she had to stay late. She was amazing gave me the perfect layers and recommended glaze instead of color for less damage on my hair, she then styled my hair even though it was already late. I visited this salon back in April with the hopes that they could duplicate a dye job that I had done to my goatee. My goatee is naturally grey and I had it dyed a rich burgundy read while I was on vacation. I was looking to recreate that same look and color now that I was back home and interested in keeping the look. The stylist Mesha was highly recommended based on her experience with various rich colors. I will admit upon our first meeting she seemed quite reserved and not as engaging as the previous stylist I have dealt with. I thought it might have been because I was a man and she wasn't used to having male clients. I tried to ease the disconnect with basic conversation in an attempt to break the ice, but I felt I was unsuccessful in doing so. However when all was said and done she did a wonderful job and I wanted to make her my regular go to stylist at the salon for my monthly dye job. When it was time to make a follow up appointment I did and she cancelled as I was on my way to see her. When I agreed for a later appointment for that day ironically she was unavailable. So she managed to cancel me and then become completely booked for the rest of the day. Then on the day of my newly scheduled appointment I was called and told by the receptionist V. that the colors used to create my desired look had not arrived that day but would be scheduled for delivery later in the week. I called SEVERAL times over the course of the next week inquiring about when or if the color had arrived yet. Each time I was placated by the receptionist V. to call me as soon as the color came in. Finally after a month I gave up and came to the realization that Eco Salon did NOT what my business. Mesha did NOT want me as a reoccurring client and no one there had the professionalism or the common courtesy to call me and offer an explanation. Till this day several months later I have not heard from them. I don't know the reason for this. I can only suspect Mesha did not feel it was worth her time financially to take me on as a client or maybe she just did not like me for some reason. I have since found a WONDERFUL and PROFESSIONAL place on the upper Eastside in Manhattan who do an amazing job and treat me with the respect that one would expect when patronizing a business. I would think long and hard before dealing with Eco Salon. I found them to be deceiving and disingenuous in regards to how they handle certain clients. read more

I was extremely nervous getting my hair cut in NY, given I had a regular hairdresser I go to in LA.. unfortunately, my hair state was getting untidy and unruly (been over 5 months since my last hair cut) and I would not be returning to LA till the winter, so I decided to check out this salon while I was in the area. I was pleasantly surprised. The place is extremely clean, and I get the eco-friendly nature interior look. THey were also going thru some renovation, but still very chic and modern looking. I was greeted by the friendly staff and owner, was immediately given a gown and brought to the washing sinks to get my hair washed, and then I met Meesha who would cut my hair. We discussed my preferences, my hair care, etc. She was thorough and friendly, and I absolutely loved her! I asked her for a trim that maintained my layers, and she did an amazing job achieving the look! The entire visit probably took about an hour. Hair cuts range from $50-70 here, and I paid around $60. I live in Kingsbridge, but work in Manhattan, so I had been going to a salon near my workplace, simply because it was convenient. Well, convenience just didn't cut it after awhile! Tho I live uptown, my pre-pandemic office was near Union Square so for decades I'd had my hair cut in that neighborhood. This week I was really in need of a haircut and a bit of a time out, but didn't want to travel downtown. I couldn't be happier about finding Eco. The salon is located on a quiet, pretty street. The atmosphere is super kind and welcoming and I really felt taken care of. The shampoo and massage were amazing. Ming did my haircut. He understood what I wanted and went above and beyond to create the perfect cut. And Ming's joyful and kind demeanor was most welcome. To start, I am pretty particular about whom I trust to cut my hair. So when moving back to NY from Miami Beach I was looking for a new place to go to. I started going to the same place I went in Miami Beach since they had a location in the West Village. However, it was not close to my home and I ended up having to pay $25 more than I did in Miami--from $40 to $65. It just seemed too much to me. Then I found this Eco Salon in the neighborhood and thought I would (reluctantly) give it a try. I must say that I was impressed with the cleanliness of the salon itself and the people seemed pretty friendly. My favorite thing about this place is the attention to detail that all of the employees provide. The girl who shampooed my hair was not only thorough, but gave a nice massage as well. Janet was the stylist that they assigned me to and I have been pleased with her service. She is also very thorough with her service and is a pleasant girl. She could probably talk a little bit but as long as she knows what she is doing I am pleased. The great thing about this spa is that--I believe--it is not expensive at all. Maybe the fact that I am a guy and do not pay as much as a woman does is a plus, or maybe I was used to paying too much. Been coming here for a few years now. Started coming because my girlfriend recommended it based on Yelp reviews. I will say that Yelp was true to everyone's word! I've had my hair cut by 3 of the stylists. While I am a 'regular' with Ming, everyone is and has been fantastic. I love this place because I'm made to feel 'at home' when I come. I actually now know many of the other stylists than the ones that cut my hair too. Ming is amazing and consistent. The shampoosits amazing! I don't need a lot done with my hair; however, I can't tell you how many times people have fu*ked up my hair. A few years ago I started working in a salon in Scarsdale; I would get my hair cut for free while I worked there. Though I have since moved on from working there, it is a great, great salon and I could still get my hair cut there inexpensively. Now, with my new job and everything else, it's hard for me to get up to Scarsdale so I took a chance on Eco Salon. Well, I go about once a month and visit Janet. She's honest, delightful, and a fantastic stylist. I'd recommend her to anyone and it's nice to be able to walk to the salon from my job. One of the girls who washes hair is fantastic! There's another one who's a little less fantastic, soap and water all in the ears, not nearly as attentive but that's the worst thing I can write about the place. read more

I've been here three times. On the plus side, this salon has a welcoming ambience, very nice staff, and is convenient if you live in the 'Dale. On the friendliness scale, they blow it out of the water (however that is not enough as you will see). I took my teenage daughter here for a fringe a couple years ago and Ming nailed it. She went back again a year or so later and the results were much weaker--she didn't get Ming, it was someone else I can't remember, but she came out less than thrilled, however I blame my daughter there because she didn't show a photo, so what can you expect? Last week I had a work trip come up unexpectedly and needed something convenient so instead of schlepping downtown or to Brooklyn like I usually do, I booked a cut and a balayage. I stepped in, met my stylist, and immediately broke my #1 cardinal rule of hair salon going: If your stylist has bad hair WALK AWAY. It's obvious, but when a stylist has a bad dye job and her cut leaves something to be desired then we are probably just not on the same page. But I was desperately short on time so I overlooked this and proceeded to show her my picture of a medium length style with long layers, and of course, balayage. After throwing away nearly 300 bucks I walked out with basically a trim and a couple of weak highlights that looked like it came from a Supercuts, the kind you pull through a cap with holes in it. The color is so bad that I wouldn't even trust her to take a stab at a re-do. I actually wrote the salon to give them this feedback and they did not respond at all; had they bothered to I probably wouldn't be here writing this. Bottom line: if you need anything more complicated than a trim or a blow out, find someplace else. UPDATE: The salon contacted me via email and apologized for the experience and indicated for me to call them to make things right. I made a call to Maryann, who admonished me for not lodging my complaint before I left the salon (however I had been there for 3 hours with a toddler, and just had to get out). I attempted to explain that my stylist didn't seem to know what balayage was and she got very defensive saying that the salon had been here 35 years, etc (even though balayage has only gained recent popularity). I could tell she was mad at my review and she accused me of making personal attacks....I tried to explain that I was not trying to be MEAN but that in fact if a stylist has poorly styled hair, that is something people would be wise to note, which is why I said so above, instead of naming the stylist, which I feel would be much worse (and besides maybe they should invest in training so she can improve, she was a very nice person). The bottom line is I paid almost 300 dollars for a service that was not provided, so I really feel it's important to share my experience, it's not a small amount of money for most people, it's an investment! read more

I've been here twice to see Andre who has razor cut my hair amazingly. I am Asian so I have a short layered bob and his cuts are so good that I can go for months without getting a trim because the layers are so expertly cut. The salon is clean and comfortable and everyone there is so friendly, from the shampooist to the reception person, Julia. I'd been dyeing my hair for YEARS, to the point where I wasn't really sure what the natural color was, anymore. It was my first time going to Eco, and the colorist was able to look at my roots and match my shade exactly! It's also super-clean, very nicely decorated, friendly, and just full of great people. The owner/manager is very nice, and is a laugh riot. They offer you tea, coffee and cappuccino. She's a huge talent at that salon, and I always trust her with my hair. I went in recently wanting a huge change in my look: I wanted to cut my hair above my shoulders, and do an ombre. Wonderful salon! I moved to Riverdale about a year ago and have been to the salon 3 times before my visit today. It has always been a pleasant experience and I have been very happy with the cuts and color. My most recent visit was to fix a botched cut from a salon I visited on vacation a few weeks ago. I was lucky to have Sasha - although she normally doesn't work Saturday - and I am SOOOO happy that I did! She corrected the error of my mistaken visit to another location and I have learned my lesson well. She is exacting and an amazing stylist.
