My stylist was Helen and she was kind but I ended up not liking my haircut even though I thought maybe I'd start liking it after a while. My hair just feels so thick and full, the shape or the way of falls wasn't flattering. I showed her a photo of a previous cut I had but she advised it was really short previously and to perhaps cut off only the damages and dry part. Also my hair blowout was very frizzy. I made an appointment through Yelp and told them that I wanted to go from black to a chocolate brown and possibly a subtle balayage; I knew it wasn't going to be easy, due to several other consultations and due to the fact that I have a lot of hair. This salon had good ratings, so I decided to give it a try. I got there, and the stylist was having trouble with figuring out how to get started. She was thinking about it, too much, kept on looking at my hair for like 25 minutes, and even called her boss to see what she should do. She told me she was going to start by lifting the bottom to see if black dye would come off, and it did. But she only did this on the bottom half of my hair. I wanted to go full brown, but failed to do so. She ended up doing some kind of ombré, I don't know what she was intending to do when I specifically told her I wanted to go full chocolate brown. Secondly, it wasn't even the shade I wanted. The color I got had red undertones and I didn't want that. I ended up going to another salon probably a week later to fix it. This salon did my FULL HEAD (same length) with the color I WANTED for HALF THE PRICE! The stylist at Studio79 told me it would take 2 or 3 sessions to get it to the chocolate brown I wanted, but at the new salon I went to it took one sitting? Decided on a whim to get my hair cut today and that's exactly what I did. I requested a quote and got a response from Aaron almost immediately. He was able to get my an appointment time for 4 pm. I have long wavy black hair and it was $75 for a women's haircut (for extra long or thick hair). It is $65 for all other lengths. I went in at 4 today and only Jerry was working so he was the one to cut my hair. We consulted for a bit and discussed how I wanted my hair to look. I just wanted to cut my hair short for the summer time. I had my hair washed, treated, cut, and styled. Jerry is very detailed and takes his time with your hair from start to finish. I was worried about the way my hair would turn out but I didn't have to because he did an amazing job! I felt lighter and my hair was so healthy after the cut. Jerry and I had some fun and interesting conversations. He is very easy to talk to -- unlike some other stylists I've encountered before. You will feel taken care of if you come to Studio 79! I highly recommend this place and Jerry as your stylist. The salon is very clean and the decorations are nice and modern. There is free coffee and water for you while you wait as well. Aaron is very skilled at what he does and I'm very grateful to have him as a nearby stylist. I'm very picky and can also sometimes be indecisive in what I want, but Aaron has managed to be extremely patient and cut my hair in every style I've asked him to do. I like having my hair layered with a sort of edgy style, and Aaron has done amazing every time. I like how he checks in with you throughout the session and gives lots of styling tips (and I tend to ask a lot of questions). Normally I like to go to a salon when I'm getting my hair dyed and go to a cheap place and spend like $20 for a trim. But I decided I wanted to stop dying my hair and invest in making it more healthy. I made an appointment with Aaron and he did a wonderful job! This place is a steal and you will have a good cut. I came by on a Sunday morning to have my cut down by Jerry, who I had spoken to via Yelp Message just the previous day. I honestly didn't think I'd get space in but somehow there was availability. After sitting down I was treated to some pretty good espresso, after which I explained to Jerry what my requirements and expectations are in a cut. I further mentioned that I was going for a partially destroyed look and that no stylist has ever delivered effectively to what I wanted in California. Wow, just writing makes me feel bad - I must be some picky as hell customer! Nah, it's just that, when I lived in Phoenix, things were cheaper, so when I sat down and explained my requirements to someone and they delivered successfully, I'd reward them well for what is considered high value in Phoenix. But, here in California, especially in OC/LA County, when you're paying a base fee of say $100 for a cut and that doesn't even include color, well then you might be looking at a total spend of around $200 just for cut and color, and for a male. Whoa! So, I'm super grateful that Jerry doesn't charge that crazy amount, he delivered on cutting my hair how I wanted it, AND (this is the most valuable part of the experience to me) he patiently explained the best ways to style and maintain my hair based on a variety of variables. Jerry knows his shit. For reference, at the time of this review, the cost of a male hair cut is $45, and women's is $65, I think. All in all would return. I'm a guy and got my hair cut by Aaron. He definitely took his time and was very painstaking about details, but I left disappointed in my cut because he straight-up ignored what I asked for. Not only that, but *after* shaving the sides of my head, he explained to me why he did something different than what I wanted. I don't understand what's so hard about bringing this up before doing the shaving... I would never have asked for it this way. I'm fucking livid right now...On Saturday 4/9 Alli tried to do an "ombre " on me..I ended up with a light brown base with ash blonde/gray hair..It was so UGLY!!! Another stylist (I think the owner) offered to fix it. I came in on Sunday and he attempted to fix it and now it's even worse. I specifically asked him to blend the colors and all he did but slightly comb the dye down so there's a harsh line AND I have a horizontal streak in my hair. I'm pretty critical especially when it comes to haircut places. So i did my research before trying this place out. My sister and friend had highly recommended this place out and boy was i not disappointed. The place is run by two Taiwanese guys Jerry and Aaron also with a lady Michelle. Aaron was traded at Toni and Guy so definitely knows his craft! When you first walk in you can feel a difference as you're immediately greeted and offered some delicious Nestle Nespresso or your option of drinks over by the drink bar. But you do get what you pay for as this place isn't the cheapest. It's $45 for short hair and $60 for long hair regardless of guy/girl. Jerry was super meticulous during my entire cut and finding exactly how i like to style my hair, including what products i use before beginning. He also gave some awesome product demo's to try out to get different looks. Note they also have their own line of styling and hair care products! After about an hour halfish cut i came out looking like a million bucks. This definitely is at the top of my go to places now. read more

No way, 5 stars? I was so skeptical that I just HAD to make an appointment and see Aaron myself. He looked at my hair, we talked about how to cut it, and then he washed and cut it. Because I'm not a professional, I really can't describe the cutting, etc .. But what I do know is that he was very careful and fast, taught me how to style it and also curled the tips for me in the end. I have really thick and full hair so it's always layered and thinned out -- but Aaron explained to me how it only makes my hair look puffier because it's lighter at the end. He says it's better to not get too many layers and to just let my hair's natural weight bring it down. New perspective. Everyone likes their hair cut different but before you make up your mind about your hair stylist, you should definitely try him out! As soon as I walked in I was welcomed. I called 1 hour prior for an appt. The decor was great. Apparently they moved to this location 2 years ago. I arrived 15 min early but they were able to start my wash and treatment prior to my cut. The lady that did my hair wash was AMAZING with her scalp massage. She always made sure to ask me if the water temp was comfortable. (Some people assume everyone's tolerance for heat/cold is the same). The deep conditioning treatment was where she have me a 15 minute scalp Massage. Post washing, the sat me in a comfy Leather chair and offered me a beverage while I waited. I showed Aili a picture of the hairstyle I was going for. (Short Bob that is longer towards the front) she told me since my hair isn't as long in the front that it won't look EXACTLY the same. I appreciated the fact that she told me her honest opinion BEFORE she started cutting. Some people will just cut BEFORE actually assessing, giving you the false pretense that you'll get what you show them, She cut, blow dried and styled and I LOVED it! I couldn't believe how HEALTHY my hair is now! She did a great job and I am DEFINITELY coming back from now on. It costed me $60 for wash, treatment, cut and style. read more
