I previously had a chemical perm from another stylist, but wanted to have my natural straight hair since I had my wedding coming up. I booked an appointment with Jennifer in June and requested for my favorite two block haircut with some layers. You start off the service with getting your hair washed and then head over to the chair where Jennifer does her assessment of the next steps. Jennifer was really sweet and personable during the haircut and she also gave honest feedback on what worked for my face. The end result exceeded my expectations since the layers were done so well. Also a big bonus of this salon is the value for the services. A lot of salons and barbershops nowadays charge exorbitant prices that it's difficult to find somewhere affordable and high quality. Hyun hair had great prices that were very fair compared to other places. I loved my experience so much that I had Jennifer also do some layers for my wife. They're well versed in Taiwanese/Asian styles and we very much appreciated how they recommend us styles that suit our personalities and personal style. Since I have thicker hair, my total was $225 and $265 post tip. The salon itself is very clean, bright, and comfortable. It's minimally decorated and has everything needed for your hair styling needs. The parking is a bit fierce as it shares a space in a popular plaza, but as long as you make an appointment at a less popular time you should be good to go!

The first time I tried this place I was trying to grow out a semi bob that I tried on a whim (and peer persuasion). I was hating the maintenance and didn't want to drive all the way to Santa Monica to get it styled with the same lady who gave me the cut to something more manageable. I was originally yelping for Japanese salons because I heard a friend say they were great when it came to trendy Asian hairstyles. I came across Studio 79 with favorable reviews and the pictures convinced me to give it a try even though it wasn't a Japanese salon. I booked an appointment with Michelle and magic happened from there. I have been to Studio 79 a total of three times now. First time it was with Michelle, second time was a guy (I don't remember his name), and now the third time was back to Michelle. This review will be about my experience with Michelle. The first thing I knew to tell Michelle was that I was a low, almost no maintenance girl. I usually don't blow dry my hair and I don't like using many products. If I could, I'd roll out of bed, run my brush once through my hair to search for tangles, and head out the door. I told her my busy lifestyle and my lack of trips to hair salons due to my overlapping schedules. I needed a style that would look professional as it grew out but also not looked blah. Michelle took the time to listen to my concerns and requests while doing something I've never seen a hair stylist do. She was putting her hand on my head to get the shape of my entire crown and tussled it a bit to see how they naturally fell. I learned my head was really flat on the back and my crown was slightly bigger on the right than my left. She suggested a cut that required almost no maintenance but helped flatter my face shape and head shape. After shampoo, rinse, and treatment, I watched as she took the time to section off my hair. Lets just say I have A LOT of hair. (Some places charge me extra when i color my hair). Michelle patiently cut each section to give me layers to my back side with her scissors. That's right, scissors! No razors or hair trim combs! After cutting my hair while it was damp, she blowed dried my hair and cut it dry. She explained that she was setting the foundation of the shape while she was cutting it when it was wet. Then she styled,thinned, and solidified the actual shape when it was dry. Yea, it was almost an hour for the cut, but like I said, I have A LOT of hair. The finishing touch was a mist of Moroccan oil and It was done. I asked her how long I would have to come back to see her to get the shape back. She said, "oh about 3 months or after." I love this woman!!!! The second visit, I wasn't able to book Michelle because she her schedule was full. I went with a gentleman who was very nice, but I didn't get the same satisfying hairstyle and experience as I had with Michelle. Lesson learned, the third visit I went back to Michelle and will have to say, she produces magic every time she touches my hair. I forgot to mention that she's super nice and sweet too!!! Just got my haircut earlier today from Aaron, and I must say, he's really got skill. Then again, I've been asking for the same look for about 2 years anyway, but he's been the only stylist who could pull it off consistently. The basics of what you're getting: - very skilled and professional work. Excellent and careful cuts. - friendly service. Aaron makes sure you get what you want. - cool and hip studio, kinda the vibe Aaron gives off. - speaks both Mandarin and English, anyone can enjoy. - pretty convenient location, off of 60 freeway Fairway exit. - ask him about his clothing line! It's pretty legit. Like the other reviewers said, he's a really down to earth guy and is pretty awesome just to chat with. Aaron isn't afraid to tell you a bit about what he does other than cut hair, and to be honest, it's quite a lot! Great Cuts for the price! I saw the reviews and noticed that it's reservations only so I decided to my call and go one weekend. It wasn't so packed, seemed like a smooth come and go. I got a guy named Jerry. I was a customer right after a girl and she seemed very happy with her cut, so I was looking forward to mine. I told him I wasn't sure what I wanted. (seems like he gets that alot) so he shows me some styles of hair that I might like in some magazine for me get an idea. Then once we talked over some of the details, he to work. The whole Wash,Cut,Rinse,Style only took maybe around 45 mins- 1hr. maybe because i didn't have such long hair. But everyone was happy with my hair style and asking were I got it done. Been coming here w/my husband ever since they opened. We are good friend of Jerry. Whenever we need to get a hair cut, we usually ask for Jerry. My husband usually gets the Beckham style or Jerry would play around and creat something new. For me, I have soo much thick hair that i need to get layered all around and sometimes i would ask him to cut my bangs. My hair is naturally wavy and puffy... I love how Jerry gets my hair straight and uses morrocan oil. That stuff is great! My hair becomes sleek and soft! If you are in the area, make an appointment w/Jerry. i was super exicted to see Aaron after reading the reviews but... I walked in waited for about 10 minutes before a lady comes up and washes my hair. After which Aaron takes me to his chair to start my cut. I asked to to shorter since I have worn my hair long for 3 years, he decides I need long layers. and starts cutting my hair and thinning it out MAJOR , i told him i liked to only blow dry but before he flat irons my hair and thins my hair out more. Whenever I need my hair cut I go to Aaron at Studio 79. I live in Hollywood, but it's definitely worth the drive. I'm into eccentric haircuts, and I've found not everyone is as good with them as they'd like you to believe, but he's amazing with all types of cuts and styles. My favorite so far have got to be the long pink he did on me [turned out so perfect it almost looked like a wig, unlike any pink hair I've seen. Aaron has the honor of being the worst hairstylist I've ever met. When I first sat down and showed him a picture of what I wanted to have done, he said it would look nice and that he could do it. The fancy decor and soothing music must have gone to my head because $70 later, he had cut off way more than we had discussed, my hair looks nothing like the picture and he says he it won't look good because of the way my hair grows. I respect an artist's skills, but it still needs to line up with what the customer is asking for and it does here. People complain about $50 for a guy's haircut. I just did a perm for $150, so perspective matters. You can go to a $20 barber if you want, but you'll walk out with broken hairs all over your shirt, itching the rest of the day. This isn't that. You get a proper wash, a quick head massage, and you leave clean.

My experience: I was indecisive in between getting ash grey color (requires bleaching) and brown color (no bleach). I took a very long time deciding, but they were very patient and told me not to worry and to do what I want. Both Alex and Kiki have very professional skills and finished in a timely manner. I didn't fell bored or uncomfortable at all. They offered me water and make sure I was doing okay every 20 mins-ish. The vibe at the salon was great, there was nice background music played. The salon is very clean. This is definitely a place that I will go back again and it's highly recommended!
