I finally found a hair stylist that I can trust! I've had bad hair stylists in the past so it's really tough for me to trust people with my hair. Hands down MJ is an amazing and talented hair stylist! He can analyze exactly what type of hair you have and give great recommendations on what would suit your hair the best and give you options from there. He really knows everything about hair and he gave me an amazing haircut! I wanted layers and a healthy cut and I've never gotten a better cut in my entire life, not even exaggerating. Long story short, we all know the horrible bleach job done by another stylist story.. I was freaking out because I work all weekend and could not find a salon that would be open when I got off work. I also had a very important interview to go to. There was no way in hell anyone would take me seriously with whatever the color was in my hair. I found Majic Hair Studio on yelp. I didn't call or anything, I walked in, but I was assuming they wouldn't take me either. I was literally going to buy box dye and dye my hair black if I couldn't fix my hair today. I got so lucky i found this place. This man MJ was busy cutting hair, but I showed him my hair and he told me to chill for 30minutes. Thank the lord!!!!!! The stylist seemed impatient and like he just wanted to get the haircut over with. Felt like I was stepping on foreign territory because I felt like I was a bother and that I wasn't really welcomed. I was shocked that he did not use any heat protection at all when he straightened my hair, which every other professional would do when using a hot iron. He just went straight for it, keeping the straightener on a bit too long for comfort. I was on the edge of my seat as I watched it burn my hair. He also got the appointment time wrong and insisted it was a certain time when a week prior I confirmed with him three times on the agreed date, which he said yes to. Now when I walk in for appointment day he treated it like that never happened. Hair result came out decent. I'm guessing the guy might have had an off day, but since I feel unwelcomed to be here I won't be returning. read more

Pro: This was my second time at his salon and I'm liking it so far :) Very professional at cutting hair & styling it and tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible during the process. Very down to earth, bubbly nice guy (forgot to get his name lol) Con: he was about 15min late to our appointment and he is a bit pricey ( $60 for hair cut and I tipped him $15 because I really liked the hair cut =75 for the cut/wash ) and they only take cash. I had to drive down the street and buy 3 packs of gum to get 60 dollar cash back for this place (I would have liked to have known they switched over to cash only because I was able to pay with card on my first visit lol.) And one last thing is that I had hair all over my shirt and face after the cut :( Anyways loved the hair cut He's very good at his job and very passionate about it too. It's going to be a new year and I wanted to finally change up my hairstyle. I found this studio from the stellar yelp reviews and was hoping MJ would be the one to help me find a new style that I loved. At the beginning, i had to wait quite a while while MJ was finishing up with his other customers, about 20 minutes. However, it was a comfortable waiting area and he was very courteous when it was my turn. I had long, naturally wavy hair (and frizzy) up to my mid back, and asked for a cut to my shoulders. He took a look at my hair, carefully assessed my head shape, and told me what he recommended- a cropped bob. I was shocked and insisted it to be longer. He said "ok, but it won't look as good!" and his assistant Steven took me to get my hair washed. The wash was very nice and Steven was extremely thorough with the wash. The head/neck massage was wonderful as well. Then came the cut. The whole time, MJ was nice, funny, and approachable. But alas, we had stark differences in hairstyle preferences. Before he made the first cut, he was very realistic on the length and asked me again if I would go shorter. He kept insisting that longer would not look good at all! I became nervous and started to persuade myself to trust him and just take a chance. So I did. He began to cut and cut, carefully but not excessively. The whole time, he kept complimenting my natural curl and said he wanted to bring out the curl as much as possible because it was "different and cute." When the bottom layer was being cut, I had no problems because it looked pretty neat. But as the layers got closer and closer to the top, I started noticing what I had feared- the tips of my hair was right where the curls extended outwards, and the top was getting more and more frizzy. He kept tousling the hair and encouraged the frizz and volume, telling me that was what I should be styling my hair. I liked the volume, but overall it just looked like he chopped off my hair straight across, leaving a tuft of poufy frizz. He asked if I liked it, looked at my expression, asked if I was okay and next thing I knew, I was tearing up. By this point, he had a couple of customers waiting at this point so he became preoccupied with them. He looked concerned, but didn't bother to change it up, fix it, anything. I was so shocked and didn't even know what can possibly be done to make it better that didn't involve it going any shorter. Finally, I walked to the counter to pay. ($50 for wash and cut) All MJ said was "you'll get used to it!" At that, I left without a word. RUDE. TLDR; Was cajoled into chopping long hair to a short poufy bob by MJ. Once the deed was done, i was in pieces and all he said was "you'll get used to it". read more

Destroyed, damaged, killed my hair... I've never in my life written a bad review because I'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt....but this is something I need to share so that another girl won't go through this nightmare I'm having at the moment. I wanted to get a nice ombré but instead the stylist bleached my hair and then he decided to dyed it blue black...saying it would fade into what I wanted....it hasn't. Instead I get this fuzzy monster that I have to deal with everyday. The bleaching wasn't even done evenly, which is resulting in this uneven fading... I've cried countless amount of times because of this...every time I shower, it's a pain to dry and style my hair...I can't even describe the amount of hair I've lost and how short/thin it's becoming due to the intense breakage.( my hair was 2 inches below my chest at least) I'm never going back again. read more

I have the full confidence of sitting in his studio chair, in a vague attempt to distract him with random conversations in music/sports/food/media [although now that I think about it, probably not the smartest thing to do], and still I walk out feeling like he read my mind about how I wanted my hair styled. 3.) I don't get mistaken for another Asian guy when people see me from the back. Hehehe... ask him what his signature is and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much positive attention you get from it! 4.) To be honest, first time trying a new stylist with this new hair style is pretty scary. But MJ did a good job. Okay , so i have been here a couple times and this time i finally decided to write a review . My friend recommended MJ to me and I really like his style . I have become his loyal customer ever since . But today i wrote the review because of his attitude and professionalism . So i came in for a perm and before applying the chemical Mj asked me about my hair and I insisted that I have very damaged hair . So he use a set of chemical that is suitable for damaged hair . Through out the process he did tell me that my hair can actually handle a stronger chemical but i tell him no. So ended up he have to redo my perm half way . I wasted him and myself two hours ! Ended up i spent the whole afternoon for a perm and towards the end i have to urge him to be quick cause i have to go meet up my husband . I feel guilty of it. But he was so nice ! My first time coming here was actually today, and thank god cause I finally found a permanent hair salon I can go to around the area. The interior is really nice and gives off a good vibe when you walk in. My hair stylist was Scott, and he did an amazing job with dying my hair for me. He asked me what I wanted and we went through different shades and whatnot. They actually care about what you really want and how you want your hair. Also, MJ was really kind too and I felt really comfortable and enjoyed sitting on that chair for like about 3 hours! I'm so glad I came here because Scott and MJ are the best! I was initially going for my sons' hair cut and I ended up getting a hair cut for myself.
