One of the widest and most diverse selections I have cone across with elegant and powerful pieces. The music and the floor (look down) help create great ambiance as you browse and shop. Sofia and Em are an amazing team of consultants as you thoughtfully consider the best "new friends" to bring home. They are uniquely gifted with clairaudient capacities (meaning they "hear" the frequencies of the crystalline energies...yes, it's a real thing). And if we're going to buy a crystal, don't we want to buy one from someone who might be able to "speak" crystalline? Something to think about. Em has the gift of hospitality and shares it graciously with everyone that walks in. Sofie has fashioned some of the jewelry pieces in the shop. She has an exceptional sense for shapes, as she knows how they want to present themselves. I picked up a beautiful (and rare) highly evolved Lepidolite piece ($30) and a deep Jade pendant ($44) as well as a lightly scented rose oil ($26). I returned later for a champagne shaded Moonstone sphere with a blue iridescence ($48) and Shungite and Lapis Lazuli bracelets to gift. Perfect place for gifts. They have outstanding design sense and their black boxes and bags are decorated beautifully with old school sealing wax that is hot pink or gold and dusted with gold. It's a truly a pleasure to gift something from their store. The recipients feel it is special from the moment they lay eyes on the packaging.

The Japanese block print exhibit is really what we were there for and I am still in awe of the work the artists produced so long ago and the colours that have lasted the teat of time. The staff were kind and helpful as you get to the inner areas it is easy to get turned around.

Prices were over $20 a ticket which in the real world would have been a little steep for me, but I do believe they work on a donation basis. There are 3 floors. Included in the membership we were granted access to the special exhibit. My husband and I enjoyed walking around and looking at the various exhibits. Mostly modern but they did have some great antiquities.. As well as a large installment of African American artistry. I'm not one to remember names or genres. I just enjoy seeing life from the perspective of artists through their art. And the SAM gives a wide variety. Being from Los Angeles we are kind of spoiled in the museum world and although we did enjoy the museum very much, and it's certainly worth visiting, there are better museums with much grander collections that I've seen.

I spent a few hours on Bainbridge Island during a family trip to Seattle, and we enjoyed a leisurely browse at this bookstore. It was well stocked with books of every genre, as well as a strong selection of gifts and toys. My Seattle friend told me Eagle Harbor had carried my book, at least when it first came out, so I forgave them for no longer having it on the shelves six years later. I was very happy to see my friends Kara Loo and Jennifer Young's novel in the romance section. It's their first book, and I think it's a good sign that the store stocks new releases by debut writers. I really just love a good bookstore, and being in Eagle Harbor Book Company made me happy, even as my children demanded I buy them every colorful thing that entered their field of vision. I'd be a regular if I lived on the island. I could rent a space next door and start solving crimes.

There's Otto, a skeleton dated from at least the 1870s, a ton of taxidermy, porcupine quills, apothecary jars, a bunch of taxidermied animals, and so many other interesting curiosities to look at. While the vast majority of items are for sale, I would honestly call Mudlark Oddities more of a museum than anything. Many of us do not have the space nor the correct temperature and humidity to store taxidermied specimens. As much as I wanted to purchase the horseshoe crab skeleton, it was super fragile, and unless we had a spare box, I had no way of safely transporting it in our car. We spent at least a half hour in the store perusing all the cool pieces of history, and I took a ton of pictures to commemorate our visit. The staff were friendly, and I ended up getting a small metal bird-shaped bejeweled trinket holder as well as a few stickers. I'd love to visit Mudlark Oddities again the next time we're in Seattle! Told us all about the different items, how they are made, what they are made of, etc. In addition to their flagship ceramics, they have gorgeous paper art, cards, jewelry, bath&beauty items, kitchen items, and probably more. This is a new location - they are originally located in Orcas Island. They plan to have classes and/or a workshop in this location soon.
