The tours run consistently throughout the day so if you arrive and miss one, you won't have to wait long for the next one. There is a museum at the top of the hill but we did not have time to go through it. The tour starts with a ride down a miners car towed by a cable. It's not an original car to this mine but retrofitted from another mine and holds about 20 to 25 people. Everyone wears hard hats and if you want a hair net they have them. The tour is about an hour long give or take a few minutes and although I'm sure all the guides know their stuff, Patty was outstanding in giving explanations and answering questions. The mine closed in 1965 and the tourist tour opened in 1985. It is crispy cool and wet and dark and you get lots of views of how the mine operated. Remember, you only get paid for the coal brought out and the crew is expected to churn out about 8 tons a day with which is four carts overfilled. If you wanted to make things easier for yourself you can (like adding safety timbers or a gravity chute) go right ahead but that'll eat into your coal production and again, you only get paid for the coal. We learned about the mules, air shafts, child labor, sally doors, frogs, rats, canaries, and much more. In the area where you pay for your tickets, they also have a nice gift shop with very reasonable pricing, and a small snack shop. Tickets for August 2026 were $12 adults and a small discount for seniors and little children. My wife's pants dragged and now they're black with coal dust. This was a nice excursion to kill some time and we all learned a thing or two!

Upon arrival my fiancée and I were greeted by our pilot, Mark, as well as the owner and his wife. Very friendly and made us feel welcome! We didn't waste much time, and I had the privilege of watching pilot Mark do his pre-flight. He was very thorough and I could tell the bird was immaculately maintained. Shortly thereafter we were strapped in and on our way! Having only been my 2nd helicopter flight, I was geeking out the whole time, and Mark was on top of his game. Soon we were circling around the statue of liberty and on our way up the Hudson. Great views of the Freedom Tower and we went north, uptown and over the GWB before starting our return to Pittstown. Landing was flawless, came in with plenty of ground speed before smoothly exiting the active and calling it in. Pro. Pictures and words don't do it justice, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life!! Highly recommend stopping in for a quick flight (or lessons, or a license)!

Because of the reviews about the instructors...I went with the further location. Wade Krepps was our pilot and he was absolutely amazing. Off the bat, you can see his passion for flying and was easily sociable. My bf was nervous at first but with Wade's positive feedback and encouragement made the flight an excellent experience. Thank you Wade, you've made this experience a very memorable one. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family! OH! And the owner, Maria...was easily reachable. She gave me her personal number because I was a little worried about the weather last week. Also, we were running 10 minutes late. She was very accommodating about it as well.

I'll let you know that if it rains on your trip and you're in the open air car, you'll be getting wet and we did in both directions. Not butt wet, but your lap if uncovered will be pretty soaked. The hour long ride was nice and leisurely and although the narrator hyped up a waterfall, it didn't live up to it. He also gave some history and talked about an old hotel that used to be along the line before being burned down. There was an old oil line that now holds fiber optic lines, the rock "tunnel" and some other named curves along the way. The diesel locomotive pulled one direction and pushed the other the way back. On the open air cars, you sit sideways family style on comfortable wooden benches. The car needed some TLC if you looked hard enough but was fine. We did not walk through the standard or first class cars, the snack car, or the caboose. The bars across where the windows would have been were almost reminiscent of jail cells. In the short sections of the ride when it wasn't raining the fresh breeze was quite refreshing. This ride would have been awesome at the right time of the Fall during the changing of the leaves. I bet they raise the prices then. The train offers numerous different themed rides so the experience can a bit different each time if you want to ride more often. For our open air car today, $25 each. So, $100. First Class was $54 each which also got you a "free" drink and snack. I'm sure those seats were more comfortable than the wooden benches. Something fun to do while in Jim Thorpe for the experience.

Early bus w/ food? Music and bus? I've been a customer of JZ Tours for the past 6 years. I informed my group I have no intention of leaving 3 hours later than advertised with no amenities or compromises being offered. I feel horrible I recommended them! I will never give JZ Tours another dime of my business and will make it a point through voice, text, email, and social media to discourage anyone who would like to travel with them. The explantation for the loss of perks was weak at best, however no attempt at remedy of situation occurred. JZ Tours simply pushed the departure time back and issued a partial refund. Very nice and relaxing Sunset Cruise along Cayuga Lake for a great price. We were about two minutes…read moreaway from when they were going to launch and Captain Chris called to check in if we were on our way before they left without us. Our tour guide was very sweet and made sure we were all comfortable during the two hour ride. They also have Eco tours, which we could definitely tell she was into. A smaller lake close by was closed off completely due to a deadly algae, which she then collected algae from the lake and took the sample under a microscope and invited anyone to come check it out. Her interest made it that much more personable and I enjoyed it. Not the bad algae though, obviously. She even offered to take pictures for us. The sunset was beautiful and on the way back we saw some water falls. Something to consider before booking. The difference between this sunset cruise and the Charter sunset cruise is because it is more private with 6 passengers per tour at a higher rate and starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm with daily cruises available, whereas Ithaca boat tours allows up to 24 people starting at 7:30pm-9:30pm with cruises only on Friday/Saturday. We didn't mind if there was going to be more people on board, but there were only about 8 of us on the boat that night anyway. I also like that it starts at a later time so we could relax and get a nice meal beforehand. I would recommend this tour. Don't forget it's BYOB! Have fun!
