When you grow up in Northeast PA (NEPA), you go to the Coal Mine Tour. Now from my childhood I only remembered that there was an incline that you descended and that it was slightly cold underground, so I decided to revisit the tour as an adult on a recent trip home to NEPA. I have to say that it is an incredibly eye-opening tour as an adult. You don your hardhat and take a car down a shaft into the mine itself. Your guide then takes you through parts of the mine and educates you on how mining was done in this area at the turn of the century. This was backbreaking, awful work and I couldn't be happier that this is no longer a job for people in this area. Having grown up in the area, it's incredibly humbling to look a breaker boy and think that it would have been my job if I was born 100 years earlier. The Coal Mine tour is a very educational activity and one that I would recommend to anyone who's visiting or to anyone who may have done the tour as a child and who would want to revisit it as an adult.

Upon arrival my fiancée and I were greeted by our pilot, Mark, as well as the owner and his wife. Very friendly and made us feel welcome! We didn't waste much time, and I had the privilege of watching pilot Mark do his pre-flight. He was very thorough and I could tell the bird was immaculately maintained. Shortly thereafter we were strapped in and on our way! Having only been my 2nd helicopter flight, I was geeking out the whole time, and Mark was on top of his game. Soon we were circling around the statue of liberty and on our way up the Hudson. Great views of the Freedom Tower and we went north, uptown and over the GWB before starting our return to Pittstown. Landing was flawless, came in with plenty of ground speed before smoothly exiting the active and calling it in. Pro. Pictures and words don't do it justice, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life!! Highly recommend stopping in for a quick flight (or lessons, or a license)!

Because of the reviews about the instructors...I went with the further location. Wade Krepps was our pilot and he was absolutely amazing. Off the bat, you can see his passion for flying and was easily sociable. My bf was nervous at first but with Wade's positive feedback and encouragement made the flight an excellent experience. Thank you Wade, you've made this experience a very memorable one. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family! OH! And the owner, Maria...was easily reachable. She gave me her personal number because I was a little worried about the weather last week. Also, we were running 10 minutes late. She was very accommodating about it as well.

Previous advertisement to book with JZ tours: (in May) Full Tailgate food EJ the DJ playing 1:00 bus departure 4 days before event JZ Tours changed itinerary: No tailgate at all No music at all 4:00 bus departure Regardless of situation, as a business some compromise could have been made. Early bus w/ food? Music and bus? I've been a customer of JZ Tours for the past 6 years. I informed my group I have no intention of leaving 3 hours later than advertised with no amenities or compromises being offered. I feel horrible I recommended them! I will never give JZ Tours another dime of my business and will make it a point through voice, text, email, and social media to discourage anyone who would like to travel with them. The explantation for the loss of perks was weak at best, however no attempt at remedy of situation occurred. JZ Tours simply pushed the departure time back and issued a partial refund. Our tour guide was very sweet and made sure we were all comfortable during the two hour ride. They also have Eco tours, which we could definitely tell she was into. A smaller lake close by was closed off completely due to a deadly algae, which she then collected algae from the lake and took the sample under a microscope and invited anyone to come check it out. Her interest made it that much more personable and I enjoyed it. Not the bad algae though, obviously. She even offered to take pictures for us. The sunset was beautiful and on the way back we saw some water falls. Something to consider before booking. The difference between this sunset cruise and the Charter sunset cruise is because it is more private with 6 passengers per tour at a higher rate and starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm with daily cruises available, whereas Ithaca boat tours allows up to 24 people starting at 7:30pm-9:30pm with cruises only on Friday/Saturday. We didn't mind if there was going to be more people on board, but there were only about 8 of us on the boat that night anyway. I also like that it starts at a later time so we could relax and get a nice meal beforehand. I would recommend this tour. Don't forget it's BYOB! Have fun!
