The tours run consistently throughout the day so if you arrive and miss one, you won't have to wait long for the next one. There is a museum at the top of the hill but we did not have time to go through it. The tour starts with a ride down a miners car towed by a cable. It's not an original car to this mine but retrofitted from another mine and holds about 20 to 25 people. Everyone wears hard hats and if you want a hair net they have them. The tour is about an hour long give or take a few minutes and although I'm sure all the guides know their stuff, Patty was outstanding in giving explanations and answering questions. The mine closed in 1965 and the tourist tour opened in 1985. It is crispy cool and wet and dark and you get lots of views of how the mine operated. Remember, you only get paid for the coal brought out and the crew is expected to churn out about 8 tons a day with which is four carts overfilled. If you wanted to make things easier for yourself you can (like adding safety timbers or a gravity chute) go right ahead but that'll eat into your coal production and again, you only get paid for the coal. We learned about the mules, air shafts, child labor, sally doors, frogs, rats, canaries, and much more. In the area where you pay for your tickets, they also have a nice gift shop with very reasonable pricing, and a small snack shop. Tickets for August 2026 were $12 adults and a small discount for seniors and little children. My wife's pants dragged and now they're black with coal dust. This was a nice excursion to kill some time and we all learned a thing or two!

He took us to see waterfalls and then way up on top of the mountain to get an awesome view. When we got to the top of the mountain for the amazing view, there was a gazebo. I was thinking that it would be a good spot to propose! For all you guys out there - something to think about ;-) This tour would be good for families too. We decided to visit New Hope on a whim during a beautiful May weekend. We've always known that…read morethere's a charm to this town and it really wasn't too far from where we are, so it was an easy afternoon trip for us. The one thing we knew about New Hope is their train. My fiancée enjoys these trains from growing up, so this was something up her and her brother's alley for the day. We were a little lucky in some ways that the crowds weren't as large when we took the afternoon train. I guess there was a parade going on during the day that suppressed the train crowds. But it wasn't too bad. We just took the standard 45 minute train ride. It doesn't go deep outside New Hope, but it's a nice and serene ride of sorts. Nothing too crazy or special. Yes, it's slightly overpriced, but there's still a little charm to being on this old school train. Note that we didn't bother getting any food or drinks, so I can't review that part.

Very nice and relaxing Sunset Cruise along Cayuga Lake for a great price. We were about two minutes…read moreaway from when they were going to launch and Captain Chris called to check in if we were on our way before they left without us. Our tour guide was very sweet and made sure we were all comfortable during the two hour ride. They also have Eco tours, which we could definitely tell she was into. A smaller lake close by was closed off completely due to a deadly algae, which she then collected algae from the lake and took the sample under a microscope and invited anyone to come check it out. Her interest made it that much more personable and I enjoyed it. Not the bad algae though, obviously. She even offered to take pictures for us. The sunset was beautiful and on the way back we saw some water falls. Something to consider before booking. The difference between this sunset cruise and the Charter sunset cruise is because it is more private with 6 passengers per tour at a higher rate and starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm with daily cruises available, whereas Ithaca boat tours allows up to 24 people starting at 7:30pm-9:30pm with cruises only on Friday/Saturday. We didn't mind if there was going to be more people on board, but there were only about 8 of us on the boat that night anyway. I also like that it starts at a later time so we could relax and get a nice meal beforehand. I would recommend this tour. Don't forget it's BYOB! Have fun!
