My mom's 18th birthday present back in the day was a full set of upper dentures. I have an older sibling who has dentures. Ugh. So I sucked it up and headed here upon the recommendation of my dentist to increase the upkeep on my still kinda pearly Irish chompers. Dr. Joe is a really nice guy. I did some research on him and found out he went to Harvard, which, if you mention it, he waves away as though it's nothing. He and his staff were very careful to explain everything that was going on, and what I needed to have done, while tedious, was not bad at all to deal with. They are great about keeping on you about checking in with how you are doing as you heal up. Other than it seems like most patients I've seen are at least 20 years older than me, and are being picked up after their appointments by their children while I can still drive, I am adjusting to the fact that there is no shame to getting some additional dental help. It's even kind of cute seeing all these who are around the age my parents would be if they were still around.

I mistakenly trusted this doctor and went along with it. Later when they tried this again, I went for another opinion because I thought something was off and I was absolutely right. This was many years ago and I have yet to need the work that they quoted me thousands of dollar on for this tooth. Now I am back with the VA and they aren't taking in patients and wanted to send me out for community care and listed off First Choice Dental and I told them my story. I said I don't want to waste the governments money or have unnecessary dental work so that FCD and the doctors can pocket more money on things that are not medically necessary. Yelp wasn't around back when this happened. I decided I would just look these guys up to see if maybe I was blowing this up... I also talked to my coworkers and they also had similar stories about First Choice, so I am leaving this review. I would not recommend their clinic from my experience and I won't even go there even if I don't have to pay out of pocket for their services. I wish I could say something different because the personality of the doctor was good, but I do not appreciate having unnecessary work done on my teeth. Please refer to your dental oath.

During my appointment, we were able to narrow down which tooth it was bothering me. But, after an x-ray and dealing with me for about a whole five minutes at best, the dentist could not tell me what was wrong. He basically just said I would have to suck it up and come back in if it gets worse. WORSE? My eye is twitching and I have a constant headache that keeps me from sleeping but sure, let's let it get worse. I really feel like my pain was being discredited. So, I gave the dentist brand the benefit of the doubt and went to get a second opinion over at the sun prairie clinic. Imagine my surprise when the dentist there figures out my problem in two minutes by looking at my x-ray and saying my filling is off which is causing my pain. My other dentist did not even tell me the tooth that was causing me had a filling. One would think that it would be extremely relevant to know that the tooth causing me pain had had work done on it before!

I had more surgery and replaced them, but again there was no interconnection of the implants. and 1 by 1 they failed again. Now I have a shard of metal from a failed implant starting to protrude through my gum. Dental Health Associates wants me to pay all over again, but I am now retired and cannot pay thousands of dollars. I have no legal recourse because the statute of limitations (3 years) has passed since the first surgery. Medicare doesn't cover dental, and I cant even afford to pay the 175 dollars for a consultation for a repair. I am in pain constantly, and my only option is to wait for the metal to work its way out of my jaw and hope I don't get an infection. I cannot eat or speak properly, and I have no idea what is going to happen.

I have been going to the Old Sauk Clinic for over 25 years and until 2023 I was very pleased with…read moremy care. I require two annual regular cleanings plus two annual perio cleanings, alternated every three months. Last year I was told that my regular cleaner was now booked for almost a year out so my regular schedule was no longer definite, so I was scheduled two months later with a "substitute" and had to move my perio cleaning forward to accommodate this. I had never had a problem with my perio cleanings, being scheduled every six months. As to my regular cleanings, today (April 8, 2025) might have been the last straw, and I am not heartless, but my regular cleaner cancelled our appointment while I was in transit (an hour trip through detours and roadwork) and I was told on arrival that my next regular cleaning could be scheduled with a "substitute" in June. I then had to cancel my perio cleaning for June, and, long story shorter, I am not at all happy. Turns out my perio cleaner is also fully booked, so good luck me. This is wasting my time, complicating my schedule and I find being put on their wait list for cancellations to be a joke. Someone always beats me to it.

When I arrived was warmly greeted and filled out a couple of questions on a laptop by the front desk. I only had to wait a couple minutes before I was taken to the back to see Dr. Angie. She was kind, gentle, and explained everything she was checking for and addressed any questions I had. She definitely took it any stress I had about coming in. Afterwards I saw my hygienist and left with a nice little welcome gift. What I really liked was how kind everyone was and how they explained everything to you. Plus each hygienist has their own little "cubby" with a window and bird feeder. *it's the little things*. They also provide you with plastic safety glasses and my hygienist even had tinted ones! It really shows they care about the patient here. If you're looking for a dentist I'd highly recommend this place :)

Saw Dr. Lee for my first appointment. They do a full set of x-rays here which I find a little annoying because I really think that a full set is unnecessary if no problems are found. Anyway, Dr. Lee was nice and I liked her. Then for the cleaning, Dr. Spiewak was the attending dentist (had teeth cleaned by hygienist). My dad is a dentist and I have chosen not to get my wisdom teeth removed because they are impacted but not coming in crooked but they are just hanging out under the gum. The dentist freaked out when I said that I wasn't removing them for now and he was like "OMG there's bacteria festering under there if you were my daughter I'd tell you to do it!!!" I've read the scholarly journals. There's not significant evidence that getting wisdom teeth out as a preventative measure is helpful. I've gone here for another cleaning and yet again Dr Spiewak has harassed me about the wisdom teeth. So overall, I liked Dr Lee but not the other dentist. If you choose to go here, consider saying that I referred you! We both get $20 gift cards if you're referred.

I've had to re-post this multiple times in Google reviews because it's magically disappearing; they…read moredon't like honestly negative reviews. Brent Killian will PREVENT you from receiving dental services by moving around a lot, cancelling appointments last minute, and then creating months long waits to get back in. Then, when you do... Negative 5 stars. Truly horrible administrative staff. From the Stepford tone about the months it would take to get in to be seen despite losing what turned out to be 2 fillings ("that's the next available"), to the awful location that staff refused to provide directions to (the clinic manager actually said to me that is "not in their job description"), resulting in a missed appointment and another two month wait, to the snotty hygienist who asked me why I transferred then (apparently not getting it's the actual dentist that matters - !), and then said, sarcastically, "sorry that was so difficult for you," definitely avoid. Corporate disregard at its maximum. Another dentist described them as "the Walmart of dentistry." Very true. There are many other dentists as good as or better than Brent Killian, who of course would close ranks with the system his career is tied to.
