I had a similar experience to what Anastasia K. described in her 2019 review…read more I hadn't been to a dentist in a while and, upon my exam with Dr. Dave Ducommun, was informed that I had serious cavities in all of my molars that needed to be filled ASAP. This was surprising since my dental health had historically been great, so I planned to get a second opinion. The office tried to schedule a follow-up appointment less than two weeks later, placing immediate pressure on me to commit. Throughout my visit, I was repeatedly offered unnecessary whitening services in a manner that would be shaming or mortifying for many patients. I declined all of this flagrant and pushy upselling. I got a second and third opinion from excellent dentists who disagreed with Dr. Ducommun's assessment and were concerned by the aggressiveness of the recommendation. However, subjectivity in dental philosophy and salesmanship wasn't the most notable negative part of this visit. Dr. Ducommun asked me a series of invasive questions about the social and power dynamics of my parents' relationship. There was no context for it. It was an extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate line of questioning. I left the office shaking. This was one of my most stressful interactions in a medical setting and I finally decided to leave feedback on this topic after the review sitting as a draft for a couple years. I strongly recommend recurring, trauma-informed trainings for the entire staff, both the care and admin teams, alongside cultural sensitivity trainings. One compliment for No Fear: I cannot emphasize enough how great the hygienist was. It has been a few years since this visit, but he was gentle, patient, and truly kind.

After looking for someone I could trust (I have Anthem BC/BS Fed EE plan AND Delta Dental ins.) I learned, to my dismay, that too many dentists were attending too many seminars on how to convince people they needed unessential work done (ka ching). Went back to MW on Tree Ln. by default only to have Dr. T slip me a form "do you like your smile? would you like whiter teeth? etc." ka ching, ka ching. This guy is going on 80 yo and justifies his up charges by asking "do you know how much dental school costs?" You have got to be kidding!!!!!!! He joked about his hygienist always changing her mind on her career choice "she wants to do something different each week" that week she wanted to be a child psychologist, his assistant bored me with her life story (Navy wife) while I sat in the chair and then proceeded to thump me on the arm when Dr. T had his hands in my mouth. A crown was made WAAAY too big and caused me to bite my tongue, he filed it down 2X before agreeing to do a re-do as a "courtesy". An 80 yo with a wavy chestnut brown rug on his head discrediting his staff and complaining about the high cost of dental school? Is this professional? Where does a person go to find a dentist that just does basic dentistry and doesn't want to put an addition on his house or take an exotic vacation?

But Dr. Kaveh blew my mind today. I was in a bike accident a few days ago and smashed up my face pretty badly (in the hospital for a couple of days). He and his team saw me as soon as I got out, and they were so much gentler than the dentist at the hospital as they inspected and did X-rays. They also set me up with an oral surgeon. THEN Dr. Kaveh met me at the oral surgeon's office to make sure everything went smoothly, and I'm so glad he did because although the surgeon did a good job, he didn't know me and wasn't as good at answering my questions as Dr. Kaveh was. ALSO Dr. Kaveh then met me back at home and helped me get my retainer in, which I was scared to do and it did hurt going in but it has made my mouth feel so much better since. They are a busy office so sometimes scheduling can be pushed out but I've always gotten a call about openings and have been able to get in earlier than expected. They have provided excellent communication and referrals when needed. I have been so happy with my hygienist. My teeth always feel so clean after. She's efficient and thorough. If you are in the area, this location is bus-friendly and there is a coffee shop in the same building if you need to do work or wait before/after appointments.

I am a bit concerned about their prices, they charge $49 for the fluoride treatment, every other dentist I've been to across the three states I've received care in has charged $19. The fluoride was the same, the price was $30 more which does worry me about what their prices are like outside of what is covered by insurance. When I brought up this huge discrepancy, other dentist in the area and asked why there was a difference. They were unable to fluoride treatments cost more here. When I asked about booking my next cleaning, I was told they didn't have availability until way later in the year and that I would need to call back to get an appointment so I could use my two free cleanings per year. The staff was great, my main concern is price gouging especially when the services are the same.
