This place is great... I've been here for 9 1/2 weeks, lost almost 50 pounds, I can move again, I have so much flexibility and I have a full toolbox to take home with me so I do not go back to my old habits. Katie Rickel is a very hands-on director who has been there every step of my journey helping me out in every way possible. Keegan White has been One of my wellness counselors along with Lacy Frazer. Both have Classes almost every day that delve deep into my inner reasons for wanting to resort to food for comfort. This Has to be one of the biggest things that has helped me throughout my journey. The food is exquisite, extremely well prepared to my personal taste Under the tutelage of Chef Thomas. The grounds are well-kept... And the apartments are extremely big and very modern. Now for the best part... The gym. The gym is run by the fitness director Katie Krasinski. There are organized classes for anybody to do anything that they want. There our two huge swimming pools and I have been under the guise of Jessica Bolz who has done a fantastic job of whipping me into shape. I had zero core when I got here and now I can do things that I never dreamed of. I am almost 65 years old and I'm feeling more in the 30 or 40 year range now. Randy and Cari have also worked with me in Pilates and have helped me with my breathing and my core. Every day there is a variety of different options for us to choose mental wellness classes and athletic classes. When I first got there I was given a schedule of the most productive classes for me based on my goals that I wanted to achieve while I was there. The schedule was put together by Structure House and was tailored for the new participant. After the first month I was given a menu of classes and athletic events for me to create my own schedule with the help of the Counselors that have known me since I've been here. I've been greatly inspired to keep the momentum going as I am here and when I leave. They offer a bi monthly Skype Call that I am able to participate in well after I leave. In addition, I am able to track my food, journaling how many fats, proteins, starches, and fruits. When I leave I can send them my journal every other month when it's complete and they will look at it and give me feedback and send me a new empty journalAlthough I am only here for three months I feel that I will be at structure house for the rest of my life with the support that they will be giving me later in my life. I highly recommend Structure House for anybody who is looking to improve themselves. Great place for weight loss and a great Place to get healthy. However, staff for the most part are overworked and programmed to be nice. You are treated more like a number than a human being. The classes are informative but boring. The staff read off of their power point presentations, as if the were reading instructions for brain surgery. (Boring and monotone) As a participant you have to pay attention or fall asleep. In the afternoon, there is a presentation called digging deeper which talks about normal and everyday people problems. However, if you don't go and listen to the presentation, you are basically considered an outcast for NOT drinking the cool aid. (Presentations are generally boring and one sided. If you don't agree with the presenter, You are also considered an outcast. The most important thing about attending the structure house is you! I am now a month out. Having not being refunded a credit owed. I do not recommend. Pros and cons. I had some wins but an extremely frustrating The with an abundance of apologies, but no changes. The program is not cheap. The very last day the made that sweeps and changes the sheets weekly walked into my place a little after 8 AM without knocking check out, was at 10 AM multiple times I did not receive the food ordered, Structure House is not equipped for bariatric patients or gluten intolerant patients. It stresses three meals a day with volume metrics from trainers to life coaches to nutritionist to massages to counselors cost extra. There are group classes if you have an individual need it is difficult . everything is very cookie cutter. They have an electronic program to order your food. However, if you are a vegetarian, you must write it out you give them the meals for the week, and there is no way to correct it or realize that you Ordered something wrong unless you take a picture of your menu I was literally told by one of Which was the only rude person throughout the stay, despite having bad experiences, 'that I should have done It correctly the first time' When I requested to see my menu. I was finally around the second or third week asked what I needed and told to request what I For my diet. Later, I was told that I was not receiving my food Because the dining would count numbers of food and not Once you reach a certain number. Some people Place very much. It amazes me how many Come back multiple times for instance, every year or people would tell me it was their 13th Time. My goal was to improve back pain, and Back on track. It is not a vacation and never want to return. Do your research. Choose wisely. There is a person noted as a success story that told me she had lap band despite the video never mentioning. Truth? Idk. Why does she keep having to return? Despite all apologies things continued going wrong through the last week and seemed to get worse. It's very disappointing. I was told that they were sorry that I had a bad experience but never corrected issues or did anything to make up to me the amount I paid. I saved all emails once I realized nothing was changing. There were multiple with no responses. Communication is absolutely terrible between departments. People told me different things until the end. I'm disappointed that I spent retirement money to stay 8 weeks. I encourage people to research and decide what you need. Unless you pay for extra meetings it's not individualized. There is a menu to choose foods and classes you choose to attend. Do your research. With the money spent on the last two weeks which I foolishly extended I could have hired a trainer for the year. Just do your research and realize that no matter what it's on you. You'll succeed at home if you wish. Hire a nutritionist, a trainer a life coach & stay at home. Save money for a vacation! -I only know of two days in a row that I received my meals correctly -nutritionist that did my intake later talked to me on the phone after a complaint. She said that she didn't remember me and that I belonged to the other nutritionist. -trainers are paid for 25 minutes or 50 minutes. It's cheaper for 50 minutes. I showed and was told that she must set up for a holiday party for the staff and could only do 25 minutes.(more expensive) was not asked ahead of time. We rescheduled but keep in mind that if I had not reached at least 24 hrs ahead of time that I'd be charged. -low staff over holidays though we pay full price -huge communication barriers between ordering food, whether eating in room and or what food you'll actually receive. Very little consistency. -told by front desk that I would not be charged for final nutrition meeting. The invoice shows a charge. I asked several times ahead of time yet I was charged. I've pointed out the discrepancy but the whole stay had issues. Once my meal was never delivered. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason. I'd show for a meal to be told it was likely on the way yo my room. I'm out of room to write. read more

Don't drink the Kool Aid. It costs about $16 grand for the "basic" program. This does not include individual sessions - it's all classes (you do get one "intake" with each of the modalities - but they just do background - if you want to work with a life coach, trainer, or nutritionist, you have to pay extra). If you can't afford the "extra", well ... you aren't just out of luck, you will be treated poorly by the administrators and much of the staff. If, on the other hand, you have lots of money to burn to pay people to be nice to you - Acadia (the corporate owner of Structure House) could sure use it to pay off those lawsuits. The program boils down to: eat fewer calories (but more volumetric) and move more. If, for any reason, this does not work for your body, they'll tell you they don't know why you aren't losing weight and then run the other direction every time they see you so they don't have to try and help. Over twelve weeks, I gained weight and size while following their program exactly - all body fat according to their scan. I'm out $32 K. read more

Just home from a month long stay at Structure House. I am SO glad I decided to "invest" in myself and my health. The lectures by dietitians, psychologists, and fitness experts were priceless. This is definitely a very safe place to explore and learn about our relationship with food - I highly recommend a 4 week stay (if possible) as there are revolving weekly lectures and the first week can feel a bit overwhelming with all the information presented. The fitness classes were extremely fun - especially Drums Alive for me! - Bedtime Yoga was wonderful, Stretch, Resist-a-Ball, pool workouts - all were done professionally. I like that I will get out of this Program what I put into it! Very encouraging, supportive staff, but, as a participant you truly monitor yourself.. with lots of help if you need/want it. Like many who struggle with my weight I felt like I knew everything about what I needed to do and just could not seem to get the results or if I got results I could not seem to sustain them for any length of time. I am amazed at how nicely this facility is run. From the CEO to the exercise instructors, the dietary workers, the chef, the professional staff teaching classes, the social workers and the nutritionists- everyone is just so approachable and welcoming. The food is delicious, the calorie counts easy to apply to my nutritional needs, the physical facility and grounds are all first rate. The pools and exercise equipment are all first class. Hello- My name is MCGR. I have been to SH several times now, and to be perfectly honest, it saved my life . I weighed almost 300 lbs when I started here! I now weigh about 185, and I am 5'4. It took me a little less then a year to lose the weight, and I am still working on it. I have had some health and fitness setbacks, but for the most part I have kept off what I have lost. This is NOT "Canyon Ranch" spa! It is a serious weight loss facility with psychologists and social workers, nutritionists, and certified personal trainers there to help. Chef John is phenomenal! The staff was incredible, John the chef was so knowledgable, Sandy & Ruth at reception were so helpful with day to day information, and Anne (my personal therapist) was incredible. Truly, this place saved my life, and I am forever grateful. I stayed for a full four weeks and I am so thankful that I did. What I learned is worth it's weight in gold. I was dismayed to read a review that was less than 5* for SH. I went there and had a marvelous experience. I did well, faltered and came back for a refresher. I am proud to have been on their Wall of Fame. They don't just deal with dieting. They help you understand why you got where you are, and give you great tools to get where you need to be and stay there. I am by no means perfect, but very much appreciate what I learned there and what their incredible staff did for me. Most of the program is included...a few are extra. This makes sense. If some patients required more therapy, it is on a pay for need basis. They do not suggest therapy unless indicated. The nearby Duke Trail is a marvelous 3 + mile walking (or running) trail that will give you a marvelous sense of accomplishment. First when you complete it. Then it continues as your time to finish gets shorter. If you go to Structure House, be committed. If you are just interested, then wait until you really want to be there. Structure House is the place I've been looking for for years, a place for a personal retreat for health and wellness. Don't be deterred by the weird name. It is a place for education, therapy, fitness, and controlled eating to help you set health and wellness goals and learn to keep them. The focus is weight loss, but I also learned the habits and practices that lead to lower blood pressure and reduced LDL. My A1C dropped .5 points after 5 weeks here. The program includes education and therapy from psychologists, nutrition specialists, dietitians, fitness trainers, and chefs. It is a small campus and each participant has a small apartment with a washer and dryer. Meals offer lots of choices tailored for weight loss. It may seem expensive, but it has helped me reach my health goals and stay out of the doctor's office. read more

I reluctantly went to Structure House in the spring of 2013 because my doctor "browbeat" me into doing something to loose weight. I was so inspired and impressed. The staff is first rate, knowledgeable and caring. They actually make exercise fun and its easy to try a ton of different classes. And Chef John stretches a calorie better than anyone I know. A 1200 calorie diet was actually filling and tasty. The motivational and educational classes were great too. I came home and have been able to keep up the momentum. And I cant wait to return there for a "tune up" in the fall. read more

Using a variety of tools focused on behavior modification, the staff at Structure House have helped me to shed 90 pounds in 10 months and the ability to keep it off for over 1 year. I was a client of SH in 2007 and can't say I was at all impressed. I regret not writing to them back then, but it seems like someone new might have bought the place and is trying to upgrade it. Back then, there were very few exercise classes, no one to consult for workouts if you went in at a time other than the short scheduled times, the food was tasteless and full of preservatives, canned fruit instead of fresh, nothing organic - in general the facilities were tired. My main exercise was running and walking with another client who was as frustrated as I was, as most of the "extras" that I was interested in doing were additional charges. When I inquired about the food, I was told they "prepared the kind of food most of their clients would be preparing for themselves at home" instead of encouraging fresh and organic food. I know this place works for many, so I probably made a poor choice but most of the issues I had with the place were nothing I could have discovered until arriving. So if you are going for lots of activities and great fresh organic food, you will be disappointed. If you are just trying to get a handle on beginning to eat smaller amounts and get a minimal amount of regular exercise, maybe this place will suit you. For me, I have been to Canyon Ranch three times for what it cost me to go to SH once, and feel I get more out of it. Definitely better food. read more
