I called multiple groups to repair my steel posts in the basement. Most groups were incorrectly telling me to replace my posts and were trying to upsell me on new ones which were not as resilient. They even tried to sell me on a concrete jacking for the basement. Southern Contracting was very upfront and honest. The owner Jeff Hall, agreed to make the repair on the post instead of trying to sell new ones. They also informed me that because of the layout, I probably could not relevel the slab with traditional methods like jacking or foam fill. They also told me that jacking my slab would likely damage other portions of the house that have settled. I really appreciated their honesty. They didn't just try to oversell something I didn't need, and they saved me value by advising the right methods to fix what's going on in my home. I hired Southern Contracting to install a steel beam and foundation footer in my home to replace a load bearing wall. I had quotes from 4 different companies (including the one that did the engineering work). While Southern Contracting was not the lowest price, they were very competitive and the knowledge Jeff was able to provide made me feel much more confident moving forward with their company. They were significantly lower than the contracting arm of the engineering company. Also, they were on time with their schedule and finished sooner than expected which is always a nice surprise in a renovation. Over the following 3 months, the house settled about 3/4" which I was concerned about correcting prior to installing the new hardwood floors. Jeff came out, inspected it, and developed a plan to take care of it under the warranty. They even followed up with me proactively to get the touch-up scheduled! I would highly recommend requesting a quote and selecting them for structural work - I plan on hiring them again myself someday when it is time to take down walls on the other side of our house. read more

Recently (late April) they completed installation of needed crawlspace foundation support pillars that have leveled floors, unstuck doors, closed cracks and in all, made our nearly 60-year-old home a much more stable, secure, and functional living space. Manager Jeff Hall specked out our project on another very observant and informed estimate visit, listening carefully to our concerns and of course, applying his experience-based wealth of structural design and maintenance knowledge toward addressing our needs. The rotten wood was discovered during the demolition for two bathroom remodels. Once discovered the bath remodeling contractor was not equipped to repair the underlying structural damage. A local engineer highly recommended Jeff Hall and Southern Contracting, who promptly came out to assess the extent of the damage that had likely been there for decades hidden behind the walls that were now exposed. He designed a rebuild of the bathroom stack (1st & 2nd floor) to include wall plates, flooring and ceiling structures. He assigned the construction work to a very experienced superintendent, Jeff who has been with the company for 7-years. He came with a crew of three men (Dev, Hunter and Andy). First and foremost, they did a great job! The structure is now stronger than when the property was built in 1929. Plus they were all very polite and very considerate of us as they performed the work. They put paper down on the floors to minimize the mess as they came in and out and also cleaned up well afterwards.
