We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

I have had three Ikea kitchens installed in the last three years. They were installed by RW Shaw as…read morethe Ikea Home Services installer. The first two went perfectly smoothly and were done within 2-3 days. Unfortunately, the most recent install had the complete opposite result. As usual, I communicated everything to them clearly and early. I had a measurement and they offered to do the electrical and other contracting work that is necessary prior to installing the Ikea kitchen. This is what we did in the past, so I thought that sounds perfect! We scheduled electrical prior to the Kitchen install date. Unfortunately, from that point on, every possible thing that could go wrong did go wrong. This company's management is shockingly incompetent. The kitchen was not finished for over a month AFTER our install date, leaving the tenant living inside of a construction zone. They ripped up the whole kitchen on the first day and then just left, for the drywall person to come in a few days later, working for around 2 hours and then leaving again. It quickly became clear that they weren't even trying to complete the work in a timely manner, so I reached out to ask why no work was being done. I was told that "we have three other kitchens to get done this week". That was over a week AFTER my install date. They really weren't trying to do the work. I texted their "Production Manager", asking "When will the cabinets be finished?", so she responds at 7:30PM that they will not be doing it tomorrow. I respond, again asking "When will the cabinets be finished?". She responds saying "I am currently unavailable, I will respond... during regular business hours of 8am to 5pm." It's like everything is a joke to them. This is just one example of this sort of communication from them. On top of the work taking over a month, they will try to overcharge you with their shady billing practices: My Install Date was on Monday, so they emailed me their "Estimate" on Friday night at 9:18PM. This included an $850 charge for "Reconnect sink. Dishwasher hook up. Install water line to refrigerator". There is no dishwasher or refrigerator to hook up. I responded, asking why there are charges that shouldn't be there. I received no response, so I was forced to sign the estimate because I didn't want my install to be delayed. Subsequently, I asked again about the $850 charge, so they sent a new invoice with a $125 discount for both the refrigerator and dishwasher. So you're telling me it costs $600 to hook up the sink, but it only costs $125 to install a whole new water line to a refrigerator? Their response: "You signed the contract." The whole story is far too long for this review, but trust me, you do NOT want to be involved with this company in any way whatsoever.

We used RW Shaw for our kitchen demolition and Ikea cabinet install…read more They were great to work with. The installers did a great job taking out cabinets out & installing our Ikea cabinets. They even were able to work through a few bumps because of design mistakes by Ikea. We also got our countertop through RW Shaw instead of using the Ikea countertop. I'm glad we went that route because it looks so much better The only thing I didn't like was that there was some miscommunication on when the countertop would be made and installed.... But otherwise, we had a great experience
