Painting By Christopher

We recently used Christopher to redo our dining room. He came over to see what we needed done the…read moresame day we reached out to him for help. He instantly knew what was done wrong, what would be needed to fix it and how long it would take, which was significantly less time than the original work we had done by someone far less experienced. Christopher and his team are clearly experts with older homes like ours and they do a phenomenal job, very detail oriented and focused on perfection. Their services are well worth it if you want the job done right! Our dining room was originally natural wood with a deep red color, which we wanted painted white to brighten up the space. The person who we hired to paint it white previously did not use the proper materials, which ended in many layers of unnecessary paint and he didn't fill in all the gaps and holes that show up when painting natural wood white, so it looked very poorly done. The original painter also didn't know what to do with the radiator that was also dark red, so it turned out completely blotchy. Christopher's team came in and had the botched paint job sanded down, the holes/cracks filled and the space prepared for spraying in just a half day. It was remarkable how much better it looked after just a few hours. When they were done after two days, it was impeccable. They came back a week later to get all the hardware reinstalled and put it all back in working order. Some additional adjustments had to be made for the built in, which they made sure were done well for proper use. They also were able to squeeze us in as quickly as possible during rain days that they couldn't do their outside jobs, which we were very grateful for given the lost time of the original job. Cannot recommend Painting by Christopher enough!

The first job we used him for was to paint the interior of our home just after we'd had the walls opened up to add insulation. He was able to refill the holes, finish, and paint them such that there's absolutely no indication that there was ever 30 holes in our first floor walls (we had no insulation in our 1930s-era home's first-floor walls). His prep work is fantastic. We used him again for painting our exterior. He was able to match the cladding on our new windows and do an excellent job.

We have vaulted ceilings and rounded corners on the walls, which is not an easy task. I still don't know how Steve made it possible to paint a perfectly straight line with two different colors on the rounded corners of the walls. Not only were we super impressed with the AMAZING work they did, but the timeliness and professionalism was impeccable. We worked with Steve, he made time to come out for a quote right away, took his shoes off when he came in, and sent a quote to us the same night! We were in a time crunch to get our home painted before the holidays and he delivered. We couldn't be happier, THANK YOU! Job well done. - Stephanie & Kyle

He never showed up, never called, and never sent a message letting us know he wasn't coming. We reached out shortly after the missed appointment asking for an ETA and specifically asked him to let us know if he couldn't make it so we wouldn't be sitting around waiting. He didn't respond that day at all. He waited until the following day to finally respond, and instead of apologizing or explaining why he missed the appointment, his response was: "Yea you people don't pay good luck." What makes that response even more concerning is that he had never given us a price, never discussed our budget with us, and never even showed up to look at the job. He had absolutely no information about what we were willing to pay, yet made an assumption about what "you people" would pay. I found that wording extremely disrespectful and, given the context, it came across as racially offensive. A professional business owner could have simply communicated that he couldn't make the appointment or that he was no longer interested in the job. Instead, he left us waiting, ignored our messages until the next day, and then responded disrespectfully. I have screenshots of the conversation showing exactly what was said. Based on our experience, I absolutely would not recommend doing business with this company. Reliability, communication, professionalism, and basic respect matter when you're trusting someone to work on your property, and unfortunately our experience demonstrated none of those things.

We were overdue for getting our cracking exterior trim painted, so I reached out to Culver's and…read moreseveral other painters to get quotes. Exterior painting does not come cheap, especially because our house is two stories, and the roof is definitely steep in several areas. Some smaller, highly rated painting companies outright declined to do an estimate as it was late in the season (September) when I started getting quotes, and our house was just too much of a challenge. Fortunately, Culver's was prompt with a response to come out and review the proposed job. They provided an estimate, which was not inclusive of the paint which we had to provide. When compared to the subsequent quotes I received, Culver's came out the most competitive, and I chose to go with them, and I am glad I did. Culver's was able to start the job a couple weeks later and they were able to complete the job in two days. I reviewed all the areas that needed to be painted with them, and the crew was professional and communicative. There was an area I forgot to point out during the estimate. I asked the crew if they would be able to include that (a couple small areas on the ground floor), and they did at no extra charge. They did thorough and excellent work, and I was very pleased with the final product. Culver's is definitely a great choice for painting jobs. They will be at the top of my list should any other painting needs arise!

Let's get the good out of the way upfront. Josh was at least honest about the inefficiencies with…read moretheir process and he was on time. Now...on to the negatives. Which are all process decisions that they need to revisit, because it likely costs them business if they would do it right. Culvers will not take your job unless it "eats up a full day". Meaning their slots are day slots. I get it - they need to pay people. The way you do that: have HALF-day slots and charge for that. Because you see...Josh himself said, quote, "you'd end up paying double". Which means that if they were to do half-day slots, it would be the viable price that he thinks it should have been...but because they refuse to do that, they basically overcharge you for work. The key with them is that they don't care for any small jobs. Solomon C indicated some trim painting, which I consider a small job, so whatever they've changed is a recent development, likely. Brenda O indicated an issue with coats of paint - everyone with competency knows that a single layer of paint was not going to be sufficient for anything. Conversations with Josh revealed a minimal understanding about color blending, and it's possible I dodged a bullet. Either way, I won't use, consider using or refer them until/unless they're willing to rethink their business model to better accommodate ALL customers without significantly sacrificing profits.
