It's been over 15 years since my wife and I visited this location. We always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Today we returned with our teenage kids who experienced the same great food and service. Strings is OK.... I don't hate it. I don't love it either. I don't care for the bread here as much as the bread at Macaroni Grill. The pastas here are nice... nothing fantastic. I went with a group of twelve to Strings. Our drinks got out super fast, but the rest of our service was relatively slow for our soup/salad and main entrees, but that might have been due to our large group. The food is worth the wait though! The minestrone soup was really good, but very hot temperature-wise. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and was not disappointed. My fiancé's cousins ordered the same but substituted the Alfredo sauce on the pasta for marinara. If you want Italian food and don't feel like making it yourself or spending a lot of money at Carino's Italian restaurant, I'd suggest Strings. Came here for Valentine's Day, as we do every year. Love the bread they bring out. I had a pastry fried-covered lasagna that was just amazing! The white and red sauce that comes with it is perfect for spreading all over the dish. Great service and a very romantic atmosphere. Way better than standing around at Olive Garden. read more

I'm no big iceberg lettuce fan, but bottomless salad for the adults, cheap kid meals (under $5), and warm breadsticks from the kitchen make this a great deal for parents with hungry little ones. My mom was visiting from Vegas and wanted Italian food so we tried strings. The wine selection is OK and the food portions were good. Quality of food was great, lots of mushrooms and I love the use of bacon in many of the dishes. My kids loved the Italian soda and the bread. Service was amazing! I used to LOVE eating at Strings in Modesto when we lived in the area and I wish we had one closer to where I live now in Monterey County. My favorite is the pesto chicen penne - they always make it to order for me into a creamy pesto instead of sienna style. Love the bread and the funky salad (although I hold the raw onions!) The minestrone is pretty plain but simple is sometimes welcome and great for dipping your bread. Another menu favorite is the fish. It's been awhile so I can't remember the item name exactly but great side of veggies. Can't wait until the next time I'm in town and can have dinner here! Terrible service! I went with my two children, it was a terrible experience from the beginning. The hostess did not even acknowledge us for quite some time. When finally greeted we were taken to a table just to be ignored by the waitress. The restaurant was moderately busy but I felt constantly overlooked. She never came to check on us once our food arrived. Our drinks were never refilled, we had to wait an inordinately long time to get our check. Anticipating a nice night out , good conversation and dinner . What a rude awakening- being seated and then waited waited twenty minutes went by and not one waiter or waitress came on the floor at all . Asking the hostess if they had people working her reply was "I don't know where they could be" at that point it is thirty minutes (to long) we walked out plus the other two tables that weren't waited on . Not a good way to conduct business !! I googled Resturant's in Manteca and Angelano's came up. The three tables of dissatisfied customers all went there. The restaurant food was great as always. They remodeled and I wonder who sold them a bill of goods. It is terrible! Hard grey floors, bright lights. Nothing to absorb any sound whatsoever. There is no cute, quaint ambiance to it anymore and the music was not Italian. My father was an architect and can't stand loud noisy restaurants that could be done better. We could hear EVERYONE'S conversations!!!! Even the tables across the room!! I don't want to hear about some ladies operation while eating and I don't want to hear the servers day and how it went. Loud and unfriendly now. Really miss it. Bad choice on their part. Decorate it and soften it again. I don't think I will be back. Very disappointing!! read more

I ordered baked lasagna delicious lasagna baked inside of a flakey pastry. Very good I would have added more cheese to it personally. Unfortunately our service was not very good. Seated slow. No drinks for 10 minutes. Our bread came and drinks didn't. The waitress left all used plates on table so we had to scoot everything around to make room. We've had nice meals at Stings in Lodi so thought I'd stop at this one. Mistake. The food was terrible. I had a Lasagna roll thing that was sitting in a pool of balsamic vinegar. Not a good combo. Even I'd it was the dish was cold in the middle. My wife had chicken piccata that was marginally executed. The chicken was tough the sauce poorly constructed. The restaurant was recently renovated. If I am able to give no stars I would but I at the most will have to give it one star. My family and I went in got seated with no menus for over 15mins. We waited another 20mins before our order was taken and then when our our soups came out they were luke warm which was disappointing because I was looking forward to eating it. I wasn't able to get anyone's attention to try to heat it up. My husband went almost his whole meal with out getting a refill. We ended up splitting the fried ravioli plate thinking it was going to be enough for two people. I was sadly mistaken it cost $15.99 for six little raviolis so we each got 3. There's also a 3.99 charge for a split plate fee (that's a joke) And as far as costumer service or lack of we ended up having 4 different waitresses come to the table to see if we needed anything after the fact that we were already done eating. We even had to ask for the check and for boxes. As a waitress for over 10 years myself I was sitting there and watching how unorganized this Restraunt is and the lack of communication between the staff. Half of the time while the customers are needing something the staff was standing by the cooks line talking. I would love to stand around and get paid minimum wage all day to not have to work. read more

For the most part Strings is consisent when it comes to service and food. My husband loves the Artichoke Ravioli. I normally get the Cafe Combo. Our most recent visit was on Saturday 2/19 and it wasn't very busy. Service was a little slow with the amount of customers in vs. staff. The staff was friendly and attentive. My family and I used to dine at Strings all the time, but we have stopped going after our last two visits. Something has changed, either the ownership or management. The food now tastes very processed--Sysco Products? Anyone can purchase frozen food and heat it up. I've noticed the place is not as busy as it once was. So I'm currently in trying my hardest to go vegan. But being an animal products eater my whole life, that doesn't come so simple. Anyway when I took a look at the menu, one item jumped out at me, the zucchini noodle veggie pasta. It was PERFECT. The sauce was the best tomato pasta sauce I had ever had on any spaghetti. It was just how I had imagined it would be. Idk why but most spaghetti sauces (to me) taste watered down or 'light' on the tomato if you will, but not this one. It was so delicious. They also have a great all you can eat pasta deal on Wednesdays that I recommend as well for 8.99. Served with your choice of soup or salad. Went with my parents and they really enjoyed it, as did I. The service was great and all of our choices for meals were all very good. The salad is my favorite and the bread is addicting. Horrible! I was seated in the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms. The main dining area was not full and the smaller tables to the sides were empty. They say me in the back around a corner and forgot about me for 42 minutes. Yes my fault for waiting that long for sh$&ty service. I use to go to strings a lot when I lived here 5 years ago, I looked forward to strings! I've been back four times now in one month... the service is not the greatest. Only one server out of the four times was friendly! Did I mention I waited 42 minutes and I didn't even get water or bread, I proceeded to get up and walk out but I was like I might as well say something. The waitress looked at me with a stupid look like ugh.... ugh.... ugh..... she didn't even apologize she asked me can I get you food. Not even an apology.... I called to talk to the manger and to have the owner call me but thinking about the answer to that- I laughed out loud! They will not call back! Hadn't been to Strings in a while, so we thought we'd try it again. My wife never really cared much for it, but they used to have a Spaghetti in a cacciatore sauce that was wonderful. The problem is, it was never the same in any two Strings restaurants, and some didn't even have it. Unfortunately on my recent visit to Modesto Strings, they claimed they had it, but it was absolutely nothing like it had been previously. Actually it was inedible. As usual, the waitress tried to argue and say it's always been this way. People have to understand, when you do that, you're telling your customer their either stupid, liars, or have grown senile and forgetful. None of these arguments are endearing to people, so once again, stupid waitress' and stupid management lose business. They replaced it with a meat sauce spaghetti which was mediocre at best. This chain of restaurants obviously has some seriously disorganized management. Nothing is consistent, and not much is particularly good anymore. Tired of wasting good money on bad food. I'm paying close to $13 to have a meal with bugs floating in our water. When we told them about the bugs they just ignored us and brought the regular check all I can figure out is bugs are part of the water process. I should have listened to my husband and dined somewhere else. read more

We love coming here for quick lunches and are always pleased with the nice staff and quick seating. The food is not too bad for quick Italian. We call it "fast food Italian", but always good. Only complaint - PLEASE CLEAN YOUR WALLS. While we sit and eat, you can see all the old pasta sauces from past foods caked on the walls at eye level. GROSS! I realize the restaurant is old, but at least clean the walls, maybe dust the old grapes and vines you have had since the place opened. read more
