Well, keeping with my recent reviews either being songs or poems or haiku's or some crap like that…read moreI have to continue the trend. Got to spend a little time here on a recent trip to Wilmington, and someone that worked inside was talking about Luke Combs so I thought I would attempt a lightly Luke Combs influenced country song about the Music Loft. Great place! One of the better local shops I have found in my travels especially for it's size. Verse In the heart of Wilmington town, there's a place of sweet, sweet sound, A little music loft, where dreams come alive, from the ground to the clouds above, Got guitars on the walls, and drums upstairs in the halls, But it's the people there, oh the people there, that make it feel like home, y'all. (Chorus) At the Music Loft in Wilmington, where the heart meets the art, Where the Taylor, Alvarez, and Larivee guitars start, With electric vibes and bass tones in the air, And friendly faces, who really care. (Verse 2) They've got a pedal selection that'll give you a new direction, Amped up on good vibes, they've got more than you can count. It's a small shop, but you'll be amazed, at the music that gets played, From the strings and the skins, the melody spins, in ways that will astound. (Chorus) Oh, the Music Loft in Wilmington, where passion and craft unite, Where the music floats and the rhythm invites, With the strum of the strings, and the beat of the hearts, It's a local treasure, a work of art. (Bridge) From a beginner's hope to a seasoned player's dream, This little loft, oh, it's more than it seems, With staff so knowledgeable, ready to share, In this haven of music, you'll lose all your cares. (Chorus) Yes, the Music Loft in Wilmington, a gem of the Southern nights, Where the music dances and the soul ignites, With the twang of the strings, and the rhythm that bounds, It's the best music shop, that I have found. (Outro) So here's to the Music Loft, up in Wilmington town, Where the guitars ring, and the drums sound, To the staff and the tunes, and the dreams that they weave, It's the heart of music, you best believe.

This is a really cool music shop, and probably the best in Wilmington. Their main focus is guitar…read moreplayers, with some basses and a good drum section upstairs. They have a really good acoustic room with all quality levels to see and try. They are a Fender and Taylor dealer. They carry a great selection of used pedals, while also being a Boss, Strymon, JHS dealer among others. Staff are pretty nice and tend to leave you alone to browse all you want but are always happy to help.

Finding something dependable in today's world can be challenging. Far too many believe that larger…read moreis better. The big box store or internet giant music emporium has all the answer you're looking for. That is exactly the opposite of what I discovered in Guitar's Etc, in Havelock, NC. I have an old friend, a 90's era, Guild F4CE acoustic/electric six string, that I am quite fond of. We've gone through a lot of string changes over these many years and I am very careful when it comes to who fiddles with my guitar. Like all things man made, stuff wears out. This was the case for the Fishman Transducer. The original had failed years ago but I was lucky to find a new/old stock exact replacement. Not so this time. At Fishman suggestion, I located a new pickup but, being 71 years old, I didn't feel as comfortable doing the swap so I decided to ask Pete at Guitar's Etc. The first thing I noticed was theor business hours, Monday through Saturday, 10-6 (except Saturday, then it's 10-4). I found that very reassuring. On Monday morning, I showed Pete the problem and he simply replied, "no problem. Ready Wednesday or Thursday." Finally, the last question, "How much". I watched him doa bit of mental calculations and he replied, "$50 bucks." I'm sure I looked stunned for a minute, then calmly replied, "What year is it!" To my thinking, that was a bargain. Of course I needed new strings which they also had so, I gave him the go-ahead and left the guitar in his capable hands. That evening, around 6:00, I received a text telling me the job was finished and to come pick up my guitar. it's now Tuesday evening and I've just finished checking out Pete's work - perfect!! Nice tight fit with the action being exactly as it was. Nice job Pete, thanks. While I was there I checked the prices for new stuff and it's comparable to the big stores. There's a very good reason they've been around all these years. Dependable, steadfast, solid service. Do yourself a favor and drop by. Tell them JC sent you.

This store has been here since the 80's for a reason. I recently gave my buddy an old electric…read moreguitar that needed some electronic work done. It was a cheap Epiphone, but he was just learning. I told him to take it here. They didn't tell him it was a cheap guitar, they fixed it and set it up for him. So I stopped in there today because I needed a new guitar cable. The owner was so helpful and we had a really good conversation about equipment and a future amp purchase. If you are looking for a local business with a proven track record and someone who will tell you the truth and not treat you like a new player this place is legit. I highly recommend.

We came to sell a guitar and unfortunately had a pretty rough experience. I went to use the…read morebathroom right after going in and it was a downright horrible experience. The toilet had urine all over the backside, and there was no toilet paper! Our problems only started there after I opened the guitar case up and the guy Bob working the register was overreacting negatively on the condition of the guitar. It needed to be restrung and was missing a pin but otherwise the guitar was in great shape being over a decade old. He was acting like the guitar was banged up. The body and neck of the guitar have 0 damage and tuner worked fine. A coworker remarked that he had a pin laying around for it and it's a guitar shop so getting strings in bulk prices doesn't seem like a good reason to give me such a big lowball offer. He stated a reverb price he saw that I cannot find for the life of me but can easily find my same guitar for 200 more than he found it for and that's for a used condition. I saw 799 mint condition, 600 used. I got offered 200. I only expected to get 40-50% of the guitars value and I might have sold the guitar just to get it off my hands but his demeanor ended up being the reason why we couldn't bear to sell it to guitar center. He made negative remarks about his other coworkers to us for some reason. Needs a new job. Honestly I wouldn't consider even shopping there again.

The staff are super helpful and friendly. I just needed a stand for my Theremin and almost walked out with a new Moog Synth and Theremin. Also, I needed one tuning key for my Telecaster. Brandon the manager gave me one out of the back instead of up selling me a set of 6. I could have bought a single one on eBay for like $8, but he just gave me one. That's why I'll be back often and spend more money. I'm a terrible musician but with practice and the right gear, 2024 might be my year.
