We came to sell a guitar and unfortunately had a pretty rough experience. I went to use the bathroom right after going in and it was a downright horrible experience. The toilet had urine all over the backside, and there was no toilet paper! Our problems only started there after I opened the guitar case up and the guy Bob working the register was overreacting negatively on the condition of the guitar. It needed to be restrung and was missing a pin but otherwise the guitar was in great shape being over a decade old. He was acting like the guitar was banged up. The body and neck of the guitar have 0 damage and tuner worked fine. A coworker remarked that he had a pin laying around for it and it's a guitar shop so getting strings in bulk prices doesn't seem like a good reason to give me such a big lowball offer. He stated a reverb price he saw that I cannot find for the life of me but can easily find my same guitar for 200 more than he found it for and that's for a used condition. I saw 799 mint condition, 600 used. I got offered 200. I only expected to get 40-50% of the guitars value and I might have sold the guitar just to get it off my hands but his demeanor ended up being the reason why we couldn't bear to sell it to guitar center. He made negative remarks about his other coworkers to us for some reason. Needs a new job. Honestly I wouldn't consider even shopping there again. read more

I totally love this store. I've been to Guitar Centers all over the Southeast and I must say that this is the cleanest, most well organized one I've seen. The staff are super helpful and friendly. I just needed a stand for my Theremin and almost walked out with a new Moog Synth and Theremin. Also, I needed one tuning key for my Telecaster. Brandon the manager gave me one out of the back instead of up selling me a set of 6. I could have bought a single one on eBay for like $8, but he just gave me one. That's why I'll be back often and spend more money. I'm a terrible musician but with practice and the right gear, 2024 might be my year. read more

I had a great experience with this store. I was buying from out of State (typically a more difficult experience than necessary) and the purchase was seamless putting this bass on layaway. Upon purchasing, it was ready to ship the same day-again, highly atypical when purchasing sight unseen. Bought my bass on a Thursday and it came just in time for the weekend. Writing this after my recent visit to the Guitar Center in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 2nd. I am not local to that area, I'm station in Camp Lejeune and live in Jacksonville, NC, but the store had a used Charvel I was interested in. The guitar had sat on their listing for quite some time and the price continued to go down to the point where I could not pass it up. I called to verify it was there a week prior and they confirmed that it was there and in pristine condition but warned me to come soon because an employee is thinking about buying it. When I arrived at the store, it was nowhere to be found. I searched every location with guitars and even the bass instruments too just to be certain. Before asking any employees, I began to walk around and found it in the corner of the DJ equipment area behind a desk and boxes, practically hidden out of sight. When I got to it, an employee immediately walked up asking if I needed help. (Later finding out, this is the employee that wants to buy it) I told him I came to check out this guitar and asked if there was a reason it was all the way over here. His response, "It's currently in repairs with a work order." So, I replied that it was strange because a week ago I called and they told me it was available and working perfectly, so what is wrong with it, and is it still purchasable because I drove 3 hours for this guitar. He replied "Let me go ask someone and see if they know anything" taking a piece of paper out of the sales tag that was covering it and walking away with it. About 5 minutes later, he returned with it and stated, "I'm going to be honest with you man, I have been saving for this guitar and want to buy it, but when you told me you drove 3 hours to see it, I could not lie to you, so it is all good, nothing is wrong with it." It took everything in me not to just leave the store right there, now irritated, I took it and tested it out. After playing it and looking it over, I still did want it, but I also brought 2 guitars in to get appraised as potential cash towards it. The employee that hides guitars told me to bring them in when the manager arrives as he can do more with that. I asked him when that would be, and he said to come back in an hour and a half because he is on lunch. Returning back with my two guitars I met the manager. One was a Squire Vintage Modified 70's and the other an Epiphone SG G-400. Both immaculate, cleaned thoroughly, re-strung and fully setup the night prior. Either of these in mint condition have recently sold on eBay and Reverb for 300-400. I understand that Guitar Center is a business and must make money on what they buy used, but I have always been told they offer 50 to 60% of its value. The manager stated the most they would give was 110 for each or 220 total. I was a little insulted and confused, when asking why so low he said he deemed them to be in "fair condition". I could gladly send photos of either one, they were in better shape than most the guitars in that store including the Charvel I was going to buy that they labeled as "Very good" yet there was quite a bit of aesthetic damage to the body... I tried to respectfully negotiate on the Charvel with the offer of $300 cash and the Squire Stratocaster (Re-sale value of $300) due to the damage on the Charvel that was not told to me over the phone and also the fact that this guitar has sat on their inventory for 4+ months and isn't selling. He immediately shot the offer down, informing me that the reason the Charvel has not sold is because one of his buddies that works at the store has wanted to buy it but did not have the money and has been saving up... The manager of the store said this!! Quite literally explaining that he has been allowing it to remain hidden in the store for 4+ months as the price continues to plummet on it and no customers who just walk in and don't check online would even be aware that they had that item in store! I cannot believe this is how that store conducts business, extremely unprofessional. I knew I was not going to get anywhere trying to talk with the manager who hides guitars with his employees and would rather help them out. So, I traded my mint condition guitar for next to nothing ($115) and paid an additional $547 for a total of $662. The same price the people are selling these Charvel style 2's in MINT condition, which is what they told me on the phone, yet there was significant body damage, and the guitar was not setup at all. I took my guitar here to get rid of bad fret buzz around the 15th/17th frets. My first and last experience with this business. Here's an analogy: Your car has a tire that keeps going flat and you find a shop that offers a repair for this service, but it is 1 hour away. You take it to the shop and explain the problem and the rep takes note of it and writes you a ticket. Four days later the mechanic calls you and says they have fixed your car. You drive to pick up the car the next day and upon arrival, there is a new tire on it, but it is flat. You point this out to the service rep, but they explain the mechanic isn't there. He may be back later that day, or it may be 3 days later. They don't know. They tell you the work was done and you owe them for the work done. No manager or any other option is available. You need your car so you pay to get it back because you need it. You have a car in worse condition than what it was when you drpped it off. I essentially paid $100 to get my strings changed. I will never do business with this shop again and I would advise you to read the other negative reviews. They are spot on. read more

This store has a lot to offer. The staff was very friendly. Was looking for a performance keyboard, Hammond , which was not available on the floor. They offered to order my keyboard for me at 1900$. However, I did order from Sweetwater.com and got the Hammond SK1 with bundle which saved me 300$ over Guitar center. You need to shop around before making a purchase here. read more

Their shirts say "excellent customer service" However, their customer service is second to.. literally every other company I've ever done business with. Quick elaboration on this transaction, I purchase a PODHD500x just 4 months ago. I also purchase an $80 warranty on this product. Totaling roughly, $600. Playing with the product for a few months, I couldn't get it to produce the sound I wanted. After being explained *word for word* By a guitar center employee after buying this $80 warranty that I could "throw this product into the ocean, return it and either replace it or get my money back" I obviously understood the facetious context of his comment, but it gave me peace knowing that guitar center would take care of me Incase anything does go wrong. However, that was so far from the truth. I assume, since I purchased this warranty, guitar center makes a profit on it, and might even give a little back to said employee. Anyways, I'm unhappy with the product, and explained to the manager that I wanted to return it, and upgrade to the $1100 model "helix" Given the nature of my return. The manager calls the 3rd party company involved, "after I go back and fourth with transfers with the warranty company and in-line *company that creates the product* And watches as the manager waits on hold for 30 minutes. She keeps them on hold then she explains to me my options. Which were... I could wait for inline 6 to send me a box, and I could ship my product back to them.. and they could ship me back it either fixed.. or a new one *when I made it clear that I instead wanted to upgrade, and not keep said product* Or, I could sell it back to guitar center for $170 Obviously I didn't want to keep the product, so I cut my losses and took the money and returned my product. Brand new. With an $80 warranty. For 28% the cost I purchased it for. Outcome: really annoyed consumer who will never buy another thing from guitar center again. Guitar center losing out on an $1100 sale. But most importantly.. guitar center losing tens of thousands of dollars on what I would have purchased in the future. Verdict, if you want customer service, and want something music related, order it from the producer of whichever product you want. Terrible customer service. By far the worst experience I've ever had with a company. Was planning a major purchase from the store in north Myrtle beach for my daughter. She wanted to learn how to play guitar. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of free time to teach her. She saved up her own money for several weeks to buy some lessons at this store. However when she went in she was told she had to buy a gift card for them, and was sold a gift card for some unclear reason. Now either she lost it or never received it and they just took her money. I'm not sure. She is a teenager so I can only give the benefit of the doubt to the store and assume she lost it. However when we tried to get it replaced for her we were told that there is nothing they can do and flat out refused to help which leads me to believe that either she was scammed by an employee or they just have terrible customer service. So needless to say they lost a customer and a couple thousand dollar sale to their competitor over a measly $80 gift card. I can only hope that other guitar centers are not ran so poorly but I will not be finding out as I am no longer a customer of theirs. read more
