They are so knowledgeable about the human body--especially women's bodies--and their group classes are high touch. I've learned so much about form, posture, and reducing injury while getting strong. But there's just something about this particular studio on the northwestern end of the island that brings me back everytime... Maybe it's the fact that it's one of the more spacious studios in the East Bay. Maybe it's the ample parking spots, as it's located in the Alameda Landing shopping center. Where you can also get groceries and Chipotle or Jamba Juice after a workout. Or maybe...it's the entire staff at this location that keeps me coming back. The energy, playlists and theme workouts that Mikey, Katie, Sarah, Nik, and Alliah bring. The helpfulness of the SAs, particularly Josie and Kristin! Whatever it is, this studio is pretty awesome.

I was one of the Living Social participants, and only went to one class. I will not go back. First, it was very hard to get into a class. I had to insist that because I have a full time job, I cannot come to class at 10 AM or 4PM. I was finally allowed into an intermediate group. There was no greeting - you have to be buzzed in, and the person coming to the door was a student who looked as if she didn't want to let me in and asked what I was doing there. One other person had her back to me at the computer - this turned out to be Angi. After 5 minutes had passed she finally acknowledged my presence. Her first greeting was not "Welcome to our studio" but "Are you signing up for the class permanently since it is so full you would need to reserve your spot by the 3rd class?". I said that I hadn't taken ANY classes there yet so didn't know. (it turned out that the only people in the class were me and the person who came to the door). Class started almost 15 minutes late. The instructor (not Angi) was knowledgeable, but the flow of the class was not great. It did end right on time, which meant we had a 45 minute class instead of the hour. When I called later to find out more information about my classes, I never received a call back. It was clear that even though they had agreed to do the Living Social deal, they were not happy about it. A friend of mine told me that she had had the exact same experience and would not be going back. So at least two interested and motivated clients have moved on to other studios.

After the class was cancelled 2 times due to insufficient number of attendees, we finally got a class going.. great! Then I found out that I was the only one in the class...still fine, more attention for me! Turns out Angi did not lead the class. The class was led by her student who kept referring back to her binder, who also required constant teaching reminders from Angi on breathing techniques and so forth. At the end of the 45 min class (filled out forms for the 1st 15), we went through 3 poses. It was a complete waste of my time. Had I known I was going to be a guinea pig for her student, I would not have attended.

NICOLE GARLIT **…read more WHY I CAME IN: From the outside I look "fine" but I've been dealing with upper back and neck pain for about 15 years; I had back surgery which resulted in muscle spasms, been in two car accidents, commute to work about 5 hours in a car round-trip, and this all resulted to a lot of painful tightness in my upper back up to my neck. 2024 I made it my resolution to fix my back issues so I can continue my active lifestyle of biking, hiking, weight-lifting, backpacking, etc. My fittness goals this year are to fix my twisting squat, do a pull up, and get back my range of motion + posture. The equipment and the places are pretty client and new-like. Yes, as mentioned by everyone, parking is not very easy or cheap. One hour parking is $3, 2025 rate. I usually too lazy to try to find side street/ residential street parking. There's always a bit of traffic, getting to the street because its a popular street. Despite the parking issue, traffic, I like the class and the instructors. On top of that, the credit for the class is reasonable.

Been struggling with chronic pain on my left side--hip, QL, shoulder. Chiropractic has provided…read morerelief, but I needed a way to keep my body in alignment between visits. Then I found Valerie Loo, and wow--she's incredible! Instead of just treating the pain, she finds what's out of alignment and teaches me how to correct it using Counter-shapes tailored to my body's unique movement patterns (quirks really). I don't think I've ever worked with a PT who truly understands how everything is connected. One time, my shoulder was hurting, and she had me do a foot exercise--not touching my shoulder at all-- the pain went away. So wild! What she teaches is like self-massage that actually gets to the knot--not just by pressing on it, but by using movements to retrain my body. Now, the pain stays away for days! And when it sneaks back in, I know exactly what to do to reset and feel good again! Valerie doesn't just "hand me the fish" so to speak--she teaches me how to fish, so I can take care of my body (at home) instead of relying on constant treatments. So grateful for this woman and her work. If you've noticed limits in your movement or want to move better while improving your posture and alignment, this is for you. She calls her method "prehab" (preventative rehab)-- it's a game-changer!

I saw how inflexible my father was as he aged and wanted to avoid the same fate. At first I thought I was just coming to do stretches in a class and I wasn't sure it would stick. But then, I realized I was being taught a modality to move through life, and now I have a whole new appreciation of what Valerie is teaching. Valerie taught me to know what good alignment feels like. Now, I can tune into how my body feels and make adjustments on the fly. I have a new awareness of my spine and how it affects all of my movement. I can turn my head around and see behind me more easily. I stand with more confidence and feel more grounded. It's like my body was craving this... I just needed to listen to it. An unexpected perk of attending class has been the wonderful Loo Movement community! I always enjoy the caring attention Valerie gives in class. Afterwards it feels like I got a massage. The difference is that Valerie taught me to do it myself. This is the best I've felt in my body since I can remember!
