We have been members of big chain gyms, smaller family-owned gyms, and the larger group fitness craze. But, it wasn't until we began personal training at NexGen with Brian Andrews that I can honestly say we finally "got it." Not only was I getting stronger and losing some body fat % - but I was gaining an understanding of the "why and how." The "why" nutrition is so important for pre/post-workout, and the "how" to continue making gains in fat loss without losing strength. Watching my husband grow in his fitness journey has been rewarding as a wife. Brian knows how to push my husband to a level I've never seen before. My husband came out of his workouts with Brian knowing they both gave it 110%. Trainers can be a dime a dozen these days - but Brian is one of a kind and a real force in the fitness world. If you are ready to make a change in your fitness journey - look to Brian Andrews for the best direction out there. Hands down!

After relocating to DFW from the San Francisco area, I thought NexGen would be a great choice for…read morecontinuing to work towards my health and fitness goals. After researching Yelp for a new gym, I took advantage of the "free workout" (read: sales pitch) and ultimately decided to agree to a 25 session package after some haggling. Unfortunately, NexGen just didn't live up to my expectations for multiple reasons: 1. The service marketed to prospective clients is not delivered once the sale is closed. The training plan is not personalized, not shared with the client and often delivered by trainers that are not familiar with the client and their goals. Further, the initial baseline assessment, sold as part of the package, is billed as a training session. By agreeing to the training package, you should expect a trainer (often the same trainer, but not always) to push you through a general workout which is not designed for your needs and goals. 2. The trainers operate as though they are on a shot clock rather than focusing on truly coaching their clients. I don't think that this is on the trainers since I got the feeling that there is more focus on cranking out sessions, turning clients, and ending on time (early) to ensure the next session isn't impacted. For a discount trainer, I would say that this is fine, however NexGen is charging a minimum of $75/hr, a price that should command elite service and attention. 3. Questionable sales tactics and marketing. This is really what moved me to write this review. I went back and forth a few times, because the trainers are good here, and the service offering may work for some people. That said, I think it's important to point out that it's not a coincidence that NexGen has all 5 start reviews. They offer free sessions for reviews 5 star reviews!! One session for Yelp and an additional session for Google and Facebook. As someone who relies on the objectivity and quality of these reviews and ratings, I am appalled by this offer and the amount of people (with very few reviews) who have fallen for the tactic. Beyond the review issue, I just don't believe the value proposition is there for NexGen. If I had to summarize this training facility, I would do so by highlighting that it operates using a franchise, plug-and-play business model. I believe this approach conflicts with providing high-quality services, such as personal training. I think the trainers are talented and capable. However, the services and price point are misaligned. My advice: Look around and if you decide to give NexGen a try, don't be afraid to negotiate a bit before you sign (# of sessions and price/session).

Very disappointing…read more.. My husband and I were looking into joining ProCore to get personal training or join the group workouts. The first day we came, the front desk lady was very nice and set us up to come the next day to get a tour of the center and to discuss options. We met with the owner and talked with him for about an hour and a half going through an assessment of what we are looking for and what our fitness goals are. It was nice to have a trainer actually do this as we hadn't experienced that from the past personal training gym we were going to! This was a plus to us. He told us we could text him to set up a time to try out the group workouts for free. We texted him the next day and told him what days we could do, he let us know a lady (I'm assuming a trainer) would be contacting us to set that up. He also asked my husband if he could personally set something up with him one on one to get some training sessions started with him. He asked when would be a good time for him to call my husband, my husband let him know, but he never called nor contacted us to reschedule. Also, the lady that was suppose to call us to set up the group sessions never called either. Obviously they don't need new clients who care to join their gym so we decided we are going to continue searching for a good personal training gym in our area. Very disappointing as it looked like a cool gym, but when the owner/trainer can't even give us a call when they said they would, it tells us something. Worst thing is we haven't heard from them since!

Moreover, we have learned life changing and potentially life saving skills. Professor Alejandro Siqueira is literally World Class. His record of accomplishments in competitions around the world is staggering. His attention to detail in teaching and individual attention is incredible. If anyone in the martial arts world would have the right to have a superiority complex, it would be Professor Alejandro, but he doesn't. There is no one in the martial arts world that you will find that is more personable, friendly, approachable, and humble than Professor Alejandro. The opportunity to train with him is an unbelievable honor. As for the GB Southlake facilities, they are spotless. The mats are well maintained and in fantastic shape. There is plenty of room for spectators/parents to sit, and the changing areas are more than ample. I have trained in at least five martial arts facilities and with at least five sets of instructors over the last 40+ years. None are better than GB Southlake. Moreover, I have investigated a safe place for my children to learn BJJ in this area, and am satisfied that GB Southlake is the best. The fellow students and parents at GB Southlake are very welcoming, such that no matter the level of your prior training, if any, you will not feel out of place. After 2020 brought a myriad of new chapters in life (both professionally and personally), I figured…read moreI might as well embrace the concept of change in every aspect of my life. So I set out on an unbiased, objective search to find a new gym. I visited them all: the luxurious mega-gyms, the strip center types, the low cost models, the old school Rocky V gyms, the workout warrior "boxes," and everything in between. After seeing an ad on social media for Precision Fit Labs, I figured I would check it out. Considering most of my experience was strength training in a traditional gym (push, pull, legs, repeat) I have to admit my perception of PFL was a bit "skewed". Now in my 40s, I knew I was no longer young and stupid in the bulletproof and invincible stage. However, I wasn't ready to give in to all the new fads springing up all over DFW. Needless to say, Donnie (owner/trainer at PFL) completely shattered all my misconceptions. After a week of working out with him I realized just how subpar my previous workout regimen was. I didn't warm up properly. My form was a bit sloppy at times, which contributed to periodic muscle strains. My flexibility was atrocious. I didn't properly pair strength training with aerobic/cardiovascular activity. And, quite frankly, I had forgotten how to have fun while working out in a more accountable setting. Fast forward to current day, I now wonder why it took me so long to enter the 21st century of fitness. PFL is now family and I've never felt better. My energy levels are sky high; I've gained some flexibility (still a ways to go though); my muscle tone and core are more defined; I no longer have those minor "ailments" that make me feel my age; and I actually enjoy the culture and camaraderie of working out with other people again. I can't recommend Precision Fit Labs enough. The equipment and gym are state of the art. The people are great. The trainers are knowledgeable and adapt workouts to the individual. For as challenging as 2020 was, I'm thankful it brought me to PFL. Onward!

That said, there are a couple of areas that I find frustrating. Several other LifeTime locations offer a Pilates class called CTR at no additional charge, and I have repeatedly requested that this class be added at Westlake, but so far there has been no progress. Considering that Westlake dues are actually higher than many other locations, I would expect the amenities and class offerings to be at least comparable. I'm also disappointed by how frequently the pool slides are closed throughout the day and the lack of maintenance and care to the Hyperice. I can never find the right sizes and the machines decompress due to sealing issues. I genuinely love the Westlake club and would love to see Life Time continue investing in the member experience by bringing in popular classes like CTR and improving the consistency of the pool amenities and overall maintenance.
