Shapes is an all women's gym with a brand new location in Meridian ID. I signed up with a group of girlfriends last week and have been thanking myself ever since. Shapes has the kindest employees, trainers & management and every single employee who I've interacted with has been super warm, welcoming and engaged with the members who come in. They're so anxious to help and support women and you can tel they genuinely love what they do! I've tried group classes with Cheryl, Marissa and April and all 3 have been phenomenal and upbeat with a contagious, positive approach to leading group classes with ages, bodies and abilities of all types. I've appreciated that all 3 of these teachers have shared modifications for allowing guests to go at either an easier or harder pace, depending on their varying needs. My favorite part of the group classes has been that the workout room has positive affirmations and mantras posted on the walls that are so encouraging and lifting. Who doesn't need to be reminded of their worth as they work hard, making time for themselves! The price is unbeatable for what they offer - gym equipment to run, lift & bike, an infrared sauna, a stocked locker room with showers and essentials, full access to all group classes with a variety of classes and times starting early in the morning and often even having night time classes offered too! From the start, the staff and ownership have been passive-aggressive and unhelpful when it comes to resolving even simple issues. Instead of offering support, they seem more interested in policing how you train -- I was actually told not to do certain workouts because it's distracting. Using the deadlift platform to deadlift, how dare I The owners come across as rude, disconnected, and unwilling to listen to member feedback. There's a real lack of professionalism and basic customer service here. It feels like they're more concerned with control than creating a welcoming or motivating environment. There are plenty of other gyms in the area with better equipment, better attitudes, and far better respect for their members. Do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere that values your goals and respects your time.

I thought when joints (like my elbow) go bad, they just go bad and that's part of aging…read more Nope. Luke Phillips saw me about pain in my elbow that I'd had for MONTHS. Lifting and sports sucked. I'd like to think I'm knowledgeable enough to find my on answers to fix these things on my own, like I have in the past, but this was serious and it was only getting worse. After just one simple evaluation and Luke had the tool and the exercise that bright balance and ultimate healing to by stiff AF elbow. I had been working out a lot and created in imbalance which caused the tendons and ligaments to inflame. Luke showed me this simple rubber thing that when I would bend it with my arms certain in a specific position that works other muscles that were opposite to what muscles I usually overworked. That simple balancing of agonist and antagonist muscles made my pain gone, and function returned before the week as over. Very competent PT help at this place. They gave a small amount of homework and it brought balance that let my tendons and ligaments not be so strained, imbalanced and angry. Don't suffer with injuries thinking they're age-related or that you just don't have it in you anymore. The human body is amazing and Luke proved that. I just needed little help. I usually don't stick with a work out for longer than two weeks, yet here I am going on four months!!! I was scared I was going to be judged or that I wasn't "fit" enough to fit in, but ya know what? These people are my motivators and family. I started a membership…read moreand was there for only 2 months before they let some stranger without a membership into the gym who physically broke into my locker, stole my wallet, and immediately went on a shopping spree with all my credit cards. I called the police who came and I filed a report. During that process and my back-and-forth with various staff I mentioned that of course I would like to cancel and expect given the extreme circumstance that the cancellation fee would be waved. I was quickly assured that would not be a problem. 6 months go by and I don't hear a word from Mecca until I get a nasty email telling me I owe them over $300 in unpaid membership fees. Shocked, I call them up to discuss. Whoever I talked to told me to email the manager. Manager didn't reply back to me but the billing person did and basically explained that they could care less if my wallet is stolen and since I did not follow some specific sign they claim was posted somewhere that in order to cancel you have to *email* the manager (I guess talking to him or the people reporting directly to him is not enough), they would not consider the verbal agreement at the time valid. Even though I didn't lay foot in the gym since, even though their lack of security (not checking people's membership status during the day) lead to my wallet getting stolen, even though they silently went along for 6 months without communication making it seem settled, they have sent this made-up "bill" to a collections agency. Haven't dealt with a business so vile and greedy before in my life. As for the gym itself, incredibly overrated. You are basically paying double what you should to deal with an overcrowded gym with frequently broken machines and which is a bit filthy at times. Take your money elsewhere!
