I had bi-weekly payments of $25 so $50 a month. However, 8 months into my year contract they would bill me $40+ instead of my usual $25 every two weeks. Every time I had to call ABC Financial and ask why I was getting over charged. They said it was a "late fee". Mind you, my payments were set up to come out every other Friday but when I was getting charge this "late fee" they started billing me on the Tuesday or Wednesday. I also pointed this out to the rep for ABC financial and they said that my bank (TD at the time) was no allowing the payment to go through for the Friday. I end up calling TD and talked to a rep asking why my payments were being on hold from Friday and being allowed on the Tuesday/Wednesday. Turns out, there was no "hold" on my account when Anytime Fitness would bill me on the Friday but instead they were billing me for the Tuesday/Wednesday for the full amount of $40+. There was also no history of Anytime fitness trying to bill me for the Friday. The representative at TD said that this was a common thing where billing companies push the date to a few days later and charge the customer the "late fee" where they did not process the original transaction at the original date scheduled. He also advised me not to give them my banking information if they asked for it as I had given them my debit visa for my payments! So it happens again another 2 times where I call, complain and get my refund of $15. At that time I told the rep for ABC financial that it has been going on for about 3/4 months now where twice a month I have to call back and get my $15 back for this "late fee". The ABC financial rep said "that's weird. Maybe if you gave us your direct deposit it will stop charging you a late fee". YEAH RIGHT. I gave them another month to see if this would continue on and if they would charge me another $15 late fee to my bi-weekly payments. It did and I was fed up. I went to the bank and pretended I lost my debit visa so that the one they had on file was voided. Why would I pay an $80 cancellation fee if they couldn't get their business in order and rip off people an extra $15 to their payments?? If I hadn't noticed I would have been paying an extra $150 due to fraudulent late fees! I mean I had about 2 months of them calling to pay my bi-weekly membership bill but they already freeze your account when you're 7 days late in a payment AND I already paid in advance, the last 30 days when you cancel your membership. TLDR: Don't sign up with them if you don't want to waste your time getting your fake "late fee" funds back every payment.

Won't admit it even though my contract says it in black and white I was only supposed to be charged $14.99/Month. This gym, Steve Nash Fitness World or Fitness World, is the most horrible place you could go to. The staff are terrible and so rude. They will call you a liar even when they are lying. They became incredibly rude as I've had experienced with Renee Kearns (many times now) at the Burnaby location which is their head office she says. Refuses to provide any other contact info or names. If she owns the business then I'd say sure but she does not and is making this company look even more horrible than it already does. Renee decides when she feels like replying and if its too much for her to handle she simply just does not respond ever again. I'm appalled and actually shocked at this childlike behaviour. I'm close to starting an action in the CRT if this behaviour persists. But long story, short DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM.

The personal trainers and…read moreregular staff have always been nice, but since it's become under new ownership, the new staff are not lively about doing paper towel, disinfectant and hand soap checks/refills. We're in a pandemic FFS and we don't have the tools to wipe our machines down and wash our hands. What's even more irritating is that tonight all 5 sinks in the woman's washroom had bone dry soap dispensers so I had the courtesy of telling a front desk staff. He says "I'm not a female worker so I can't go in there but I'll let another worker know". I just KNEW he wasn't going to tell anyone! After my 20 min cardio I went to wipe down my machine and lo and behold no paper towels. It wasn't the first time, it was the third time, and I don't even come as often as I should to the gym. I ended up using a random hand wipe on the machine out of desperation, then I went to the hand soaps again to double check. Oh look, nothing in all 5! What a surprise. So I went to the front desk again and got greeted by a different idiot just standing there looking pretty. I told him that I told his coworker 20 minutes ago and his excuse was the same, "I'm not a female worker" but this time he added "the cleaning lady is supposed to come at 7pm and the staff don't know how to refill the dispensers". Are you f serious? I straight up told him "if no one knows how to go upstairs to Shoppers Drug Mart and buy a small $2 soap pump as a reasonable back up then you guys need to learn. There is no excuse and this is unacceptable. Your business needs to provide cleaning tools for staff and customers to utilize during the pandemic! Even without the pandemic, as a staff member doing a full time shift are you going to poo and then not wash your hands??" He was dumbfounded...all he had to say after that was "I'll tell my manager". Yeah right. No balls and no brains to take the initiative for the health of people and the sake of the business. Just watch, there WILL be an outbreak of COVID-19 in this gym. Guaranteed.

However, the Langara YMCA is just gross. A couple of months ago, I tried out the Langara YMCA, and the atmosphere was just ugh--dark and ugly, like that of a run down community center. To get to the change room, you must go down a long, narrow hallway with grey walls. The lockers are old and battered, and not very practical. The Robert Lee YMCA has lockers of various shapes and sizes--full sized lockers, half lockers, wider lockers--to accommodate your belongings (large or multiple bags, just a jacket, etc), but the Langara YMCA only has full height, very narrow lockers, making it difficult to squeeze all your stuff in, and wasting space since the number of lockers is limited to wall space, of which there is not much. (I have no idea what people do during busy periods--there just weren't a lot of lockers, and unlike the Robert Lee YMCA, there weren't extra lockers outside of the change room.) The benches in the change room were impractical too--very narrow so it was not comfortable to sit on or place anything on them, and they were placed too close to the lockers, making it a tight squeeze to get your items out of your lockers, while leaving a lot of wasted space in the change room. There only appeared to be one main exercise floor, where all the machines were, making it feel very crowded. (The Robert Lee YMCA has one main exercise floor, split into two areas, as well as another small area on another level with more machines, so that it doesn't feel too crowded.) And the room was dark and ugh. I really didn't like the place, and it's unlikely that I'll ever go back. It really doesn't compare to the Robert Lee YMCA. [Yelp collections: Fitness]

It's very run down, very dirty, and very crowded from 5pm until closing when people finish work. It would be ok if people attending were respectful of others workouts but they hog the machines/ work out space, they drop weights on the floor and leave them rolling around, they don't clean up after themselves or wipe down the machines. It's ver frustrating to work out there. The staff is not attentive and lets things get dirty, it seems they are mostly there to hang out with their friends. The locker rooms used to be well maintained by 2 ladies but since changing cleaning companies it's always messy and there are always dirty paper towels in the lockers. In the ladies locker rooms people are very loud and have no concept of personal space.... including when they are not clothed which can be very uncomfortable. You will also find people using the blow dryers to dry things other than the hair on their heads... Every year my membership cost increases by $1.00. I am now paying $56.00. It's getting to be too much to pay for feeling frustrated and pretty grossed out. I will be joining another gym ASAP.

I train with Patrick and Marco 3 times a week, at 6am in the morning, and I am excited to attend every time because not only are they great trainers, the group of people I train with too are fantastic and those things combined makes it such a motivating experience that I am willing to drive all the way to Richmond 3x a week just so I can keep up with it. I would highly recommend trying out one of the classes as it is probably the best group of people you can train with. Patrick and Marco are so knowledgeable and so motivating - they make the workout challenging every time and I leave feeling so good about the workout and the progress I have made. Of course, you have to be motivated personally as well, however, finding the right vide and training with the right people is what makes the journey worthwhile. If you are looking for a non-intimidating gym and long lasting results - look no further. You can email Crux and they will probably hook you up with a free session to start. I just can't say enough good things about this place and am so happy I found it.

Equipment is rarely wiped down by members even if FW actually filled the hygiene stations. It's disgusting. The staff trainers are good but they all leave after a few weeks or months. The owner will not train anybody. He may know a lot, but so what if he never teaches it. Otherwise, the standard boxing techniques are not allowed for beginner, this leaves lots of confusion as many people already have some training in proper boxing technique. It seems the Sugarrays methods are weird and outdated, not the stuff Freddie roach or Russ Anber use as basic boxing technique or almost all other boxing gyms. The owner insults members and staff in front of all making a very unfriendly space to train, trainers have to hid standard training methods, members are getting frustrated, it is too sad, as it could be a good gym if under better management. Former members sincere comments. If you really want to learn proper boxing , pay a bit more, and go to well know trainers like north Burnaby boxing, griffins, or dynamics or queens bough, or tony pep in new west. East side boxing also should be up and running soon and will likely put Sugarrays out of business or take a lot of members. Also try "Beyond Boxing in east van. The owner really needs some training in sport science at the university level and also some business management skills to boot. Otherwise, some members think the equipment is great - not really have a look at any online retailer of boxing stuff (rival , ringside, canbox, title) modern boxing gyms have more than the old standby equipment.
