The woman that took our order was welcoming and polite when we arrived. She took our order and then invited us to be seated. The place was very open, clean, and perfect for dine in. Our food was freshly made and so delicious ! The Jerk sauce was hands down my favorite part of the entire meal. So good! We were also brought out a slice of freshly made mac&cheese. Complementary of the host that greeted us. It was good enough for my husband to eat most of it (mind you, he does not like mac&cheese). It has been 5+ years since I moved away from Melbourne, FL but the exquisite taste of this Jerk Chicken remains put in my mind rent-free. After moving to New York I have tried many establishments to find authentic, spicy, fall off the bone jerk chicken and I dare say - NONE of them have or probably ever will come close to the jerk chicken I have experienced at this humble Florida joint. Not sure how this spot got all the good ratings because quite frankly the food was mediocre at best. I'm not a picky eater but I couldn't even finish my food. I found at least 3 hair strands tangled in the meat. Food was off the chain! I had the jerk chicken, as well as the oxtails with rice and beans. I thoroughly enjoyed both entrees. The meals come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. I had two small meals. Sorry, I didn't post photos this time. I was too damn hungry; and the food tasted fantabulous. Both the oxtails and the jerk chicken were tender and well-seasoned. The rice and beans were out of this world. Next time, I will load up some photos. Welp, it's better than 4 other Jamaican joints that I've visited in Palm Bay. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE OWNER. I ordered a large Jerk Chicken. Again, me being a Chicago Brat, I'm used to my south side Jerk Joints where the food comes with SPICY jerk sauce, cabbage, spaghetti, yams and sour dough. This definitely and the Chi! He made some fresh pigeon peas and rice which were really flavorful. He even offered to put some extra gravy on my meal. The cabbage wasn't cooked through which gave it more of a salad/with wilted Cole slaw crunch versus a smothered cabbage side dish. There wasn't enough charring on the chicken and although it was REALLY JUICY, lacked spice. They have Curry Chicken, Brown Stew, and Goat Head stew. Excellent West Indian food! We're visiting Florida from Pennsylvania and Strawberries was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. My son and I had jerk chicken with rice&peas, cabbage and plantains. My wife and daughter had jerk pork and my mother in law had Goat head soup. The owner, Janet sat and talked with us for thirty minutes. She was hilarious. While we were there she brought us a complimentary plate of her "famous" mac'n cheese. The chef, Mr. Lowe was grilling the meat in the backyard and cooking in the kitchen. His plantains were so sweet and the rice & peas was better than my mother in laws. For Melbourne Beach area, it was great to find a "homely" spot to get jerk pork, jerk chicken and curry goat. The true test was the curry goat--it was cut in small pieces not like oxtails, like some Jamaican restaurants. Food was delicious. Ordered here during the week for lunch and had curry chicken, cabbage, and a side of mac n' cheese. The mac n' cheese was great; not too cheesy and baked. The curry chicken had a good flavor, but to eat it was a hassle. There were many pieces of bone split up in the meat that it was difficult to eat without having to pull out the broken pieces from the mouth. I love this place! They are always super FRIENDLY! The food is always fresh and delicious. The only downside is they tend to run out of plantains. With jerk... Its kind of a must. Not worth losing points over. It's a small restaurant and I'd rather fresh food that moves fast than microwave left overs from the place across the street any day. My wife and I are heading to Negril later this month and I doubt it'll be any better than Mike's here at Strawberry. My only regret is that I missed the callilou (greens) which are being cooked later today and can be pre ordered by calling ahead. After being recommended the Jerk Chicken, I ordered the dish and went to the dining room next door. It was definitely an authentic Jamacan family-run restaurant. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. It was the best I've ever had. It came with rice and beans and steamed cabbage and carrots. The chicken was smokey on the outside and juicy in the inside, and had a great amount of Jamacan spices that gave it an amazing taste, as well as a good kick. It was dang good. I'm trying so hard right now not to curse because it was that delicious. The jerk chicken had a little bit of a kick to it with the spice but I loved it. The goat curry just melts in your mouth. The guy preparing it was really nice too.
