    California veggie happiness!!!
    Stefanie M.

Not a lot of choices for pizza delivery in HMB so when I ran across this place, I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza always show up early and super hot. My favorite is the CA veggie with this yummy white sauce and lots of fresh veggies! Price is decent too and the drivers are always friendly. I do wish they had a system that remembered my information after the first order so I didn't have to repeat everything every time I call, but it's worth the trouble.

i may be biased because this place gives me nostalgia but i love this pizza location! i come here every time i visit half moon bay and they never disappoint. this time around we ordered a hawaiian pizza and got the free garlic twists for the check in. the 6 free garlic twists is such a steal!!! it's so much food as a complimentary item for a check in! not only that, they tasted so good! super cheesy and the bread was fresh and soft. the pizza itself is nothing spectacular, but nothing to be mad about. pretty average pizza but i can say i've never been disappointed coming here and i will continue to come here every time i visit HMB

I give straw hat a 2.5/5 , but rounding down to a 2, which i usually round up..... I live a 30 second drive from straw hat, so go here once & while. Being italian & growing up with my parents owning 2 pizzerias, the pizza here is not bad... its fairly decent, just not amazing. But MAN! The owners of this place are very very stingy, and do as much as possible to save pennies, even thought it will probably lose them more than pennies in the long run since it feels almost insulting and will shy people from returning. We ordered a medium pizza for pickup... they dont like giving plates, or EVEN CHEESE & PEPPERS or anything!! When we asked for cheese & peppers the lady just said "ITS IN THE BOX" .... I was like ok.... didnt bother to check. I got home, opened the box... and ONE small cheese packet & ONE small pepper packet is tucked behind one of the flaps of the box..... SERIOUSLY??? for a WHOLE pizza?? (SEE PIC) I know times may be tough and there are bills to pay.... but having the face to ask for a few cents for a side of sauce, or knowing one cheese packet isnt enough but giving it to you anyways... will only kill you in the long run.... Generosity may cost you a bit more, but bring you more clientele and people will have better things to say. All & All... the pizza is decent, they have ok deals here sometimes, & i probably would order again, just not frequently....

The highly recommended Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza -- very cheesy, loved it.

Bleh. And it was $20/medium size. There needs to be a better Pizza Joint in HMB. This was the only one we found.

Eh, it was the closest pizza place. Not impressive, pizza was mediocre and breadsticks were ok once you dipped them in ranch.

If you take a look at my reviews, you might notice that I have been on the search for the best pesto gnocchi and the best butternut squash ravioli. The ravioli here at Pasta Moon most likely takes the #1 spot. I'm not sure what the crumble on top of the ravioli is, but it almost tasted like brown sugar. I was very impressed with how well the squash and mascarpone blended and tasted together. I honestly wanted to come back the next day. I also tried the bolognese: the pasta noodles were evidently fresh and very delicious.

We were initially very excited, as the interior is beautiful, cozy, modern, and has such a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. It started with something simple: drinks. We were offered water, so we also asked for hot water and coffee in addition to iced water, but the busboy responded with, "I only do water," which was fine. However, the two water cups he brought were visibly dirty with stains both inside and out. We wanted to ask for replacements, but couldn't find him again for nearly 15 minutes. When our server came to take our order, we mentioned the cups, and she said she would ask the busboy to come over. About 15 minutes later, she returned with appetizers, but still no busboy. We asked again if someone could replace the cups, and she finally waved the busboy down. Even though he was already standing right beside our table, instead of addressing the issue directly, she pointed at us and told him to "ask them." When we explained the stains, the busboy initially argued and said, "I don't see it," and we had to point them out before he reluctantly agreed to replace the cups. Ironically, one of the replacement cups still had brown bits floating inside, but at that point we just gave up. During the meal, we also tried to order a cup of coffee. The server simply said, "hold on," and never came back. Throughout the entire lunch, she never once checked on our table, despite checking on nearby tables multiple times and repeatedly walking past ours. What stood out even more was overhearing another table next to us complain that they had been seated for 30 minutes and were still waiting to order. Instead of apologizing or showing any empathy, the server smiled and responded with, "good." By the end of the meal, we had to ask another staff member just to get our check. Only then did the server finally reappear and casually ask if we needed anything else. The food itself was average at best and nowhere near memorable enough to make up for the experience. Between the poor service, lack of attentiveness, and cleanliness concerns, this was deeply disappointing, especially for a place with such a strong reputation. Sadly, I don't think I would return or recommend it to others.

When the restaurant opened, there was no greeting or welcome. The door was simply unlocked, and we had to figure out ourselves that it was time to come in. We were seated first and given menus right away. After that, we were basically ignored. Other tables that came in after us had their orders taken, received bread, and were brought drinks while we still had not even been acknowledged for an order. We even told staff we were ready to order, but when our server came near our area, he went straight to a larger party seated after us and began taking their drink orders instead. He then walked right past us without saying anything. At that point, we left. I wanted to try the food because it genuinely looked good, but the service experience was frustrating and unacceptable, especially after being the first customers seated. Two stars because the food may be good, but the service made it impossible to stay.

I found Barbara's on Yelp--solid 4-star rating, good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived and were told there was about a 20-minute wait, which felt reasonable for a weekend seafood spot. Once we were seated, things started off fine, but the experience quickly became a bit frustrating. There seemed to be a breakdown in communication with our server regarding our order. We placed everything clearly, but when the food came out, it wasn't what we had ordered. Instead of just clarifying or correcting it, we were told the order had been placed incorrectly on our side and were asked to reorder. Unfortunately, we were also still charged for the original order, which made the situation feel even more confusing. We also ordered the clam chowder, which was honestly disappointing. From the very first spoonful to the last, there was a consistent gritty, sandy texture that made it difficult to enjoy at all. It took away from what is usually a comfort dish, especially in a coastal town where you expect it to shine. On a positive note, our timing coincided with sunset, and the view from the window was absolutely stunning. Watching the sun dip over the water while dining added a really beautiful moment to the experience, and the scenery itself was honestly the highlight of the visit. The setting itself is nice and the location is convenient if you're exploring Half Moon Bay, but based on our experience, the execution on both service and food quality didn't match the expectations set by the rating. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity. With a bit more attention to order accuracy and consistency in the kitchen, this place could easily live up to its Yelp reputation--but unfortunately, that wasn't our experience that day.
