Stay: 2 nights - 18/6/25 to 18/6/25…read more NOTE: Leticia was very helpful in providing additional information. The hotel has been going through a refurbishment and continues (see more details on their site). Previously, none of the rooms were ready i.e., refurbished when I visited 17/3/25 to 19/3/25 and no safes in the room. This visit was different; I had one of the new suites (William - 12). As you'd expect all smelling rather new. There were stairs leading upto a lounge area for the pull-out bed and a separate chair. It was very warm up there as there was no aircon. The main bedroom had new aircon above the door and did its job. The room was well laid out. Perhaps the wardrobe would be too small for a couple using the suite, then also adding the use of the room upstairs (no wardrobe up there). A good size and modern TV was on the wall above the dressing table. The remote had two defined buttons - Netwlix and YouTube. Obviously, you have to use your personal account to access Netflix. However, it also supports "CAST", and with my mobile I was able to access: Paramount+, ITVX, and Amazon Prime. Of course, don't forget to sign-out before leaving. :-) WIFI I didn't find it to be a particularly strong signal in the room. Bathroom A good space and adequate shelf areas. My only niggle here is having a shower over a bath and cocking one's leg over to access. I prefer a walk-in shower. It does have a cascade shower and a separate shower attachment. At least it doesn't use a shower curtain (although the instructions on the wall refers to a curtain); it has a glass swing partition (best description I can use). However, when getting out it does mean that the floor becomes wet. I would have benefited from having a handrail to assist the exit. A rubber mat is provided so that you don't slip in the bath. Clearly, everything was spotlessly clean & new. Parking The spaces for the disabled were blocked off with a skip and partitions, in addition, a further two spaces adjacent to the ones for the disabled were blocked off too. Unfortunately, the message that that sends is that the disabled are not welcome. Driving around to the leisure centre "Nuffield Health" there were two more available for the disabled (but this would mean a longer walk to reception). As per usual (I find), one was used by someone not displaying the Blue Card! Reception Small reception area, but this temporary and the new one will be closer to the bar and restaurant. When completed, the temporary one will be used for access to the functions rooms. Bar The first night I was there the bar hadn't been completely setup for draught drinks and only bottled beer , etc., was available. £4.50 for a bottle of Becks (330ml) seemed excessive working out at £7.74 per pint. The second night. The bar was up and running, a pint of San Miguel £6.30, again, more expensive than expected. Also on tap was Camden PA & Stella Artois. A small serving bar, not yet fully stocked, I'd say. Limited in area of whiskies and gins available. It has a coffee machine for all of the standard offerings. It is situated in "The Great Hall". There is a large balcony overlooking the bar area. Restaurant I didn't eat in the restaurant, but I have uploaded the menu. Breakfast is buffet style and it's suggested that it will be replaced by a plated service moving forward. Nevertheless, I guess it is going to be down to personal preference. I didn't have breakfast, so I can't say what's on offer nor the quality. Staff All pleasant and ameniable. One exception, not major, as the person was professional in most ways; he brought me a bottle of Becks without a glass. I am of the age whereby I don't drink out of bottles in a restaurant. It was brought to me upon my request. Is it a lack of training or their personal experience? There's a mixture of staff, new and old. Apparently, the chef hasn't change post-refurbishment. They have a specials' menu that is changed weekly. The main menu items may change within the next few weeks. NOTE: I have no information about the function rooms and I'd suggest visiting their site. Why have dropped one star? Two things: the bar prices and the lack of a walk-in shower. Would I return? Not out of choice, as it is further away from my customer's site and, as I have mentioned, I think the bar prices are too high.

Quality of the food was good, service pro-active and if there was a question, they were eager to assist. Overall impression was good, as when being in a party, these aspects sometimes suffer resulting in a kind of 'plastic' atmosphere. Thumbs up.

I do believe I may be in the minority of the group I was with when I suggest this, but The…read moreWineGlass Restaurant at The Barns Hotel in Bedford was a little bit of a disappointment. I'm not entirely sure anyone else noticed this as they tucked into their grub, but the whole place just lacked well, everything. Although I know one shouldn't judge a place on its decor, the room was an indication of what was to come. It was seemingly decorated at the height of fashion back in 1993 and now looks fit only to house an elderly, garden-centre sort of crowd. You also get the impression that the menu hadn't been improved since around that time either, and the starter selection of Prawn Cocktail or Tomato & Basil Soup was a dead giveaway to that fact. Admittedly the soup was adequate, but was certainly never going to blow my mind. It was also rather disappointing to note that the food arrived before we had been offered any drinks, and it was only through prompting that we managed to get any at all (and a little ironic for a restaurant called The WineGlass that the waiter arrived without a wine list). The main course came fashionably late at a full 45 minutes after the starter had been cleared away. Perhaps this was so they could make sure that we wouldn't taste the first course and bugger off, leaving them with eleven meals to throw away. My Vegetable Lasagne was quite nice, but the dressing-less side-salad of a few baby leaves and a chopped tomato certainly didn't help the dish. Fortunately there was plenty of veg' to go around from the central serving pot, although it did come out very watery and certainly over-boiled. I'm not entirely sure those who ordered the beef would agree that a single slice off the joint really constitutes a Sunday roast either. After the extraordinarily long wait for our main course, the deserts actually arrived rather speedily. So quickly in fact that we weren't expecting them! Again, it was all very average and the temperature of the custard which topped my very, very soggy Bread & Butter Pudding (with no topping) gave an indication that their speed probably had more than a little to do with them having prepared them way too long in advance. That could have been because the waitress hadn't checked properly that everyone had finished their meals before starting to clear away our mains and getting the chef to plate the deserts up. The coffee came quite some time later and was missing any sort of chocolatey, minty accompaniment. Are times really so hard that they can't top it off with a mint? Really? Being fairly pedantic I also noticed that the spoons weren't correctly placed on the saucer. A small point I know, but a sign that they really didn't bother to train their staff properly. Finally, after the previous kerfuffle, they tried to charge our 7-year old diner at an adult price. Whether deliberate or a mistake, attempted overcharging is still attempted overcharging. And talking of overcharging; £2.50 for half a pint of Coke? That can't possibly be right, can it? I'm afraid so. All in all, not a particularly outstanding dining experience, though I think I may be the only one of us who spotted this. I'd hate to think of the sorts of places these people would normally eat in
