Because I cannot afford full payment or even half upfront I'm not a fit for the practice. I stated…read morethat I'd be able to make payments but not good enough. Guess BMW's are getting pretty expensive. Time to press on the patients. Or Maybe that shiny new building is a bit more costly than estimated. There was a time when Strand GI was a great place. Now your only given a ticket to ride if you can pay up. I'll have to search out new Dr's or take my chances. Health care today is out of control. It all changed when Drs stepped out and allowed office managers to run things. People with no medical training making decisions based on $$.

This practice has more than one location. Seriously, who wants to need to see a GI doctor? But if…read moreyou need to, STRAND GI at 7900 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach is the facility to go to. Their scheduling is efficient. They call you when they say they will. Procedures are done at the scheduled time and the pre-procedure intake is smooth beginning with sign in and very efficient in preparing for the procedure itself. All protocols designed to assure patient safety were clearly explained in easy-to-understand terms. The procedure team was professional and caring. Post-procedure needs were effectively managed and discharge/follow up instructions were clear. Preliminary results were available to take home and also immediately posted to the patient portal. All staff were friendly, compassionate, and professional in their demeanor throughout the whole process. This what they do, and they are good at it. The 7900 N. Kings Hwy. facility functions as a well-oiled machine. Or perhaps well-lubed.

I had been a patient of Dr. Smith at Charleston GI for years. He's a very nice and friendly doctor…read more Last, year, my insurance company refused to cover a prescription for Humira, which I had been taking with minimal to no side effects for years, I asked the nurse for help. She was extremely rude and unhelpful. I was then switched to a biosimilar, and months later I experienced significant side effects. I left several messages with the nurse to have Dr. Smith call me to no avail. I then obtained insurance with a new company hoping to get back on Humira. The insurance company representative told me that my doctor needed to submit a prior authorization form. I asked the nurse to do so and to copy me, particularly since she refused to speak with the insurance representative or allow me to speak directly with the doctor. Apparently, she never submitted it. I found a new doctor, and within one week I was approved for Humira again.

On July 30, 2025, I had an endoscopy at Charleston GI. At my initial consultation, a dilation was…read morenever discussed. On the day of the procedure, dilation was suddenly added without meaningful time to consider or consent. After the procedure, I was discharged with no pain medication. Later that day, when I called in severe pain, my wife was told to drive to the office to pick up a paper prescription. It was written incorrectly and rejected at my pharmacy, leaving me in unmanaged pain and public humiliation as the pharmacist suggested I was attempting to pass a fake prescription. That evening, I called Charleston GI's after-hours service and waited over an hour for a return call. When the physician finally called, he was dismissive, laughed at my situation, and told me I could "sue" if I was unhappy. No meaningful care was provided. In the following days, I made multiple attempts to resolve the situation. I contacted the office, delivered a letter in person, and later sent certified mail and faxed notices. Despite these efforts, I remained in pain, unable to sleep, eat, or work. Even after eventually receiving a corrected prescription, the damage was already done. Patients deserve informed consent, competent prescriptions, and supportive aftercare. I did not receive that here. Based on my experience and failed attempts to resolve it directly with Charleston GI, I would not recommend this practice for yourself or your loved ones.

No thanks. I just…read moremoved here and need a new specialist so after some Googling, came across this practice. I have a no referral insurance policy but a $1300/pp deductible. Not having to go to a PC doctor to get a referral to a specialist definitely saves some coin. Unless you try to go to this practice. I called to make an appointment, and they refused to see me unless a PC doctor referred me specifically to them. I have never heard of this before - I tried to explain that I had been seeing a GI specialist where I used to live and it is a known GI issue and since my insurance doesn't require referrals, can't I just come in? To which they said no. So, they want me to find a new PC doctor, wait for a new patient appointment to be available, pay the Aetna negotiated rate to see that doc (probably $2-300 bucks for a 5 minute conversation that ends with, "yeah, you need to see a GI specialist.") then wait for an available new patient slot at their practice. This practice clearly doesn't give a shit about helping patients, just making sure they pump as much money out of patients as possible.
