    Reception
    Debbi M.

I have yet to be in the doctors care but I needed to start my review in the waiting room..... While it is an amazingly beautiful facility. Reception needs a workup on professio alism in the workplace. Discussing patients situations and concerns where it is in earshot of other patients waiting is super unprofessional AND protected by HIPA laws. Further than that is the continuous discussion of other employees and their workloads comparatively to who should be doing what when and how much they have on their calendar versus the front desk.... etc. Etc. Etc. Let me stop a moment and say that the ladies are nice enough when they are assisting patients however once done and working together their conversations quickly turn poisoned against others in the facility or they discuss patients. It just makes those waiting wonder what will be discussed once they leave reception. Professionalism begins at the front door. I will update my review once I finish the actual procedure..... :/

Very efficient and friendly! The prep was pretty rough but the nurses and doctors made up for it! See you in 5 years!

They're very busy so there's stations where they do intake of checking vitals and going over health history before you see the PA or doctor.

Modern hospital, with extremely helpful, educated, and friendly staff…read more The worst I can say is that parking for handicapped is extraordinary, but for the rest of us requires a fairly good trek from the parking lot at the rear, unless you are quite lucky to get one space closer up.

Difficult review to write, and it will run long. Doing this at an odd hour as I've been unable to…read moresleep with many thoughts and feelings running through my head. Relevant backstory: several days ago developed symptoms consistent with blocked bile duct. On Friday, had a piece of toast at 8 a.m. (relevant) went to PCP who immediately sent me to Roper Berkeley, Very good experience there (5+). Confirmed blocked bile duct. Bit of a bugaboo with transportation, but nothing major [Not all Roper hospitals do all surgeries, so transferred to Bon Secours]. Received cube of jello and small drink. Arrived well into evening at Bon Secours, where I met a terrific staff. ERCP scheduled for next day so no food no drink. To this point 5 stars. Saturday had ERCP by excellent surgical staff. All went great. Was allowed bouillon but again nothing to eat or drink after midnight as surgery next day to remove gall bladder. It should be noted here that this surgery is almost always done outpatient and you are sent home after just a couple of hours. But since I was already in hospital, easiest to just get that done. To this point still 5+. Sunday brought some confusion about the laparoscopic surgery time, but finally taken down around noon. Very quick, painless and pleasant experience. Back to room around 3, where vitals taken. Again, to this point 5 stars. The doctor reported to all that I could go home that day. After 3, saw no-one. Finally around 5 asked for any info on food, discharge, etc. This is where things went off the rails. Got lots of pushback about the doctor releasing me didn't mean the hospital had. I understood that and asked what the plan was, and oh, btw, any food or drink? The latter bit got some emphasis when the food delivery people came by in the middle of this discussion to take my non-existent tray away (sort of cosmic karma). To their credit they managed to arrange for a dinner, which was tricky as food services were about to shut down for the day. Not bad food. First meal since that piece of toast on Friday at 8 a.m. Asking for any clarification on when I would be discharged was again met with hostility and hand waiving, but no answer. Overheard: "nicest guy in the place suddenly turns into ..." .(not clearly heard but I got the gist). So with many angry words and a flurry of totally unnecessary rushing, I was shown the door at around 6. Much to my surprise, unlike any other medical facility I've ever been in, you are just allowed to walk out and not be sent out in a wheelchair. Asking about this got more angry words. I understand several things here: (1) they are short staffed; (2) apparently there was some computer glitch; (3) the nurse was stressed about a personal situation and (4) it was within their rights to have me stay another day, which I would have done had they simply said I needed to. I may have been a bit more forceful than I am wont to be but I really dislike ambiguity and hand-waiving instead of a simple answer. "Yes, you need to stay another night and we'll rustle up some food" would have done the trick. I spent 40 years in a service industry, so I have some experience to fall back on. The above interaction would have seen me sacked. So in the last 2 hours what would have easily and enthusiastically been a 5 star review needed to be adjusted downward. My wife, who had patiently been there for 9 hours, felt the whole experience was badly handled and I know was upset. I don't wish to see anyone sacked. But I do hope, should I need to go there again, which is not unlikely as a senior citizen, that such issues can be better managed. Good experience with a tragic ending that didn't need to happen.
