From the hipster cafe feel from the outside, the Mabel has a bizzare Automatic door which most customers struggled to understand to a limited menu and keeping on trend with low hanging bare lighting. You are greeted by friendly staff and we came early on enough to realise the cafe was full of wandering locals or family and friends. We were quickly seated and presented with a basic menu. No kids menu which is an interesting choice but fair enough. We ordered the beef burger, pulled pork hot potato and a simple fried eggs on toast. It's a story when the $10 fried eggs on toast are the highlight whilst the close to $20 lunch mains are extremely average. The beef burger looked like it was prepared by a home cook or someone from MasterCard USA. Accompanying chips were French Fries which tasted like they were from McDonald's. Coffee was quite average too and no surprise using Jasper. Won't be back in a rush....

Finally made it to Turning Point and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's bright and spacious inside with a…read morebeautiful yet simple interior. We were shown to our table quickly and given time to look over their delicious sounding menu. They offer breakfast for most of the day, and lunch from late morning, so there's a lot to choose from, but I decided to go with the Two Cheese Beef Burger, but just asked them to hold the brie. The mix of pickled onions and English mustard, gave it a nice punch and a distinctive difference to other burgers out there. The fries with it were spot on; perfectly cooked and tasty. I will say, however, that another reviewer (or two) were right when they said the brioche buns were dry and crumbly. I really wish restaurants and cafes would give you the option of a bun. I don't like brioche buns (mainly because I don't like sweet and savoury together), because they CAN be dry, and this is the part where the meal let us down just slightly. With that all said, I really recommend Turning Point for either breakfast, lunch or brunch. Parking CAN be brutal (it's right outside a train station), though yesterday there were cars pulling in and out of spaces, so you can be lucky. It's worth it though, because the food is good and I cannot wait to come back and try other items they have on offer (which can also extend to their cabinet of treats near the cash register where they sell items to go, if you wish ...).

3.9 Turning Point is…read morea very popular place. It has a groovy new fitout. But it's stark concrete and wood needs some sound baffling. It's very, very noisy in here. The staff are fantastic, as is the coffee. We really liked the black cutlery - great touch. Twosheds and brunching companion ordered kale and zucchini fritters, with a side of chorizo, and scrambled eggs with bacon. The fritters were a tour de force, if a touch under seasoned before Twosheds took to them with the gourmet salt. Supremely light and fluffy, they were topped with fried kale and an exquisite purple yoghurt sauce. Accompanying chorizo was beautiful. Companion's scrambled eggs were beautiful too, but the bread came without butter - a bit annoying. Bloody Mary was super strong. Suggestion for the noise issue is felt tips on chair legs to reduce scraping on the concrete. Recommended. 3.9

Yeah, as a place to grab a meal it's pretty good. It is certainly much better than a lot of other fish & chip shops that I have visited, but you sort of expect that down around Northcote. Actually, it is more than just a takeaway shop since you can also sit down and have your meal, and the options are pretty cool as well. The menu is actually pretty good. Oh, and they also have a nice range of beers that you can have with your meal as well. Yeah, I must say that I do quite like this place.

I have been eyeing this place ever since it opened…read more I had the opportunity just before the footy to see if it was a worthy place to become a regular at. It was quite full and loud, mostly because of the football being about 20 minutes walk from the venue, so the crowd had the same idea as I had to grab a bite to eat before the game. However, the crowd was well behaved and were generally well-dressed, the environment was friendly, comfy and inviting. The staff are attentive and service standards were reasonable. The table I sat on was communal, but you have enough space to call it your own. The table has knives, forks and napkins at your disposal. I ordered the Beef Burger and a side of chips. I wasn't expecting much, I just wanted the burger to be tasty and to my surprise, it was delicious. The interesting mix of beetroot relish, gruyere cheese and American mustard was a perfect combo. The presentation was pleasing and my first bite was nothing short of sedating. The chips were great as well. In terms of price, the burger was $12 and chips were $3.50, and I have had much worse at those prices and for what you get, it seems like they have got the price right. What I enjoyed most about the meal was that it satisfied. I was full, not the type of full where you feel lousy, but the 'feel good' type. If that makes sense, I'm sure yelpers would understand. You can even watch the burgers being prepared and you can see the effort and amount of care in how the burgers are cooked. It's a nice touch. I want to try everything on the menu, but the Beef Burger is so good, I'm not sure if I can deviate to other options. I will, but the choice is hard and that's a huge credit to this establishment. Overall, I had to give The Beer & Burger Bar high praise as it ticked every box I would have expected. When I enter a place and come out feeling satisfied that I spent money on a great experience and amazing taste, you will come back every time.
