Sunday night = steak night. I dine at the pub area of the venue, there are 2 tvs playing on the walls. You have to order at the bar. I had the scotch fillet and my friend the eye fillet. Both medium rare please with pepper sauce. We started the meal with the chautterie plate where there are some toasted bread, porscuitto, salami, pickled, onions, pate and some greens. It was not bad.... The steak came with huge cut potatoes that they called chips and salads. The potatoes wasn't something that I enjoyed eating, salad wasn't too bad. My friend's meat was cooked perfectly but mine was pretty rare. I could not managed half of it and I wasn't in the mood to bring it back...... I am disappoint to say I am not sure my experience here lived up to the reputation I have heard so much about....

Amazing steak! Nowhere else in Melbourne like it

The station has ruined steak for me! Whenever I want a steak now this place has set the bar and the bar is high. Featuring an amazing steak list you can choose from a wide array of grain and grass fed beef and cuts. All steaks are served with chips and choice of sauce (I recommend the bernaise) However the station is not just about steak, their happy hour oysters are amazing and what really makes it for me is their desserts. I have been known to come here for a cheeky creme brulee just on its own as a treat. I have been going to the station for over 5 years and have never ever had a bad meal. It is not you usual pub prices but then again it is not your usual pub food either. I would recommend to book if you want to eat in the restaurant out the back but you can try your luck with the front bar tables which serve the same amazing menu. If you are a meat eater in Melbourne you have to try the station there is no way around this!

The heavenly cow!

In the top 3 of steaks in Melbourne along with Dinner at Heston and La Luna. Early on a Saturday the place was empty which worked to our advantage as we had no booking. The service was good, I wish there had been more craft beers - like some from the local brewery "Hop Nation" but the selection wasn't terrible. Now to the important stuff: THE COW! There are about 15 different types ranging from $35ish to $85. We had the eye filet and the rib eye. It comes with chips salad as well as bernaise and pepper corn sauce. We also ordered truffle jus because it's truffle sauce! It was perfection and I am in a food coma now. I should've come here years ago. Wow!

I love the steaks here. Awesome menu

The Station hotel, what happened? It used to be a great destination for an awesome steak. Sunday dinner felt like an express lunch. No bread served before meal, drinks service very poor. No attention to detail- finished entrees and took ten minutes to clear. No upselling or much interaction by staff, not what I was expecting (4 1/2 out of 10 )

As you walk in, you're greeted by an enormous bar with about 12 taps of local craft beer. The ambience was casual to semi-casual with a rather mixed clientele. Seating is formatted in central dining area adjacent to the kitchen, great for viewing your meals being prepared. I order two pints of Two Birds ale coupled with my bone-in angus steak cooked to a medium rare perfection sitting on a warm bed of crispy chips and lightly tossed greens. The service was very attentive and helpful when making menu recommendations. I would definitely make this a weekly visit if I could.

Completely forgot my order when ordering at the bar. Took an hour and finally gave up. Now I have to track them down for a refund.

Lovely place for great food, beer and drink. Wish they had the hotel rooms so I wouldn't have to leave.

The best way to get to the restaurant is by car and there are tons of street parking. You could take a tram if you don't have a car. Dinner reservation is a must. It is recommended to book a couple days before, and they do not take any walk-in once they are booked fully. I was debating between Eye Fillet (their Fillet Mignon without bacon-wrap) and Scotch Fillet (Rib Eye without T-bone), but decided to go with 220g (8oz) Eye Fillet. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as I ordered and the meat was very tnder. I ordered a side of garlic and truffle oil sauce and it went well with my steak. They do bring out horse radish and 3 different mustards free of charge. It was bit surprising Aussies use mustard for steak but it was very good. Every steak comes with thick cut chips (they mean fries) and was sooooo good! I loved them as much as I loved the steak. My husband's salmon was bid too bland but surely generous portioned with two huge jumbo shrimps. Their price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I would definitely come back here if I was in Melbourne again.

The service needs a little improvement. I was barely acknowledged as I entered the restaurant before I was directed to go upstairs in an empty floor with about 10-15 tables. We were then assigned to the last table by the wall furthest away as if we were penalized. Remember those days where you had to stand on a corner facing the wall as a kid for timeout! That's what I felt like. The entire place was EMPTY!Service was slow and none of the servers looked like they enjoyed their work. In fact, the server took our order AFTER taking the orders from other customers who came in after us. The steak was tender and was nicely grilled but quality of the steaks was middle of the road. Just tasted like your average steak at an average restaurant at an average price -- nothing spectacular. And by the way, the salad tasted average too.

No imagination or presentation with this plate. Just a plate of breaded calamari that arrived less than 5 minutes after I ordered it. I then ordered the Ribeye. It was chewy and had a lot of gristle in it. Half of the pieces I ate I was gnawing through gristle, just not a good piece of meat for 75 AUD. Was not worth the cost at all.

The first time I ventured in was to indulge in what is likely the happiest of Happy Hours - $2 oysters and $12 glasses of Mumm champagne - that is ACTUAL champagne, people. I refer to this kind of treat as Choysters and I guarantee you, you'll feel like a French royal by the time you finish that second glass. My next trip was for dinner. I was so excited to try their famous Steak Frites - Grilled Hopkins River Porterhouse, with salad and BOTTOMLESS FRIES. Can you feel my excitement as you read?! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the salad gave much needed greenery to the dish. This is such a fun destination if you've had a GREAT day at work and want to celebrate or are celebrating an anniversary of birthday but don't want anything too over the top.

Entrecôte is what I imagine heaven is like. It's fun, decadent, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has enough options to keep each day a little different, but not so many that you need to waste precious time making decisions. This isn't complex food, it's not food that requires discussions on how it was made or where the ingredients are from. Nope, it's delicious classic food that lets you get on with what's most important - enjoying the company of your friends. You'll eat and drink way more than you intended, but by golly will you have a fun night.
