However, the older lady who helped me was quite rude, treated me like I was a criminal, and was openly talking about me while she was on the phone 5 feet away from me. We set out originally with the intention to land at a winery for the afternoon. Instead we came across Strad and felt like we needed to try as meaderies are few and far in between in the area. We were not disappointed! The location is unassuming from the outside, positioned in an industrial park near the Folsom Canal. The interior was surprisingly quaint with a lot of character and a good mixture of indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. The staff was very friendly and down to earth and gave us a thorough rundown of the local events happening nearby for Halloween festivities. The Mead itself was delicious, full of flavor but not sickeningly sweet. We got flights (for a good price, $10/flight) and sampled the original, pomegranate, yuzu, and strawberry jalapeño. The yuzu was an easy favorite, very unique flavor and a perfect balance of sweetness. The strawberry jalapeño will kick you in the teeth but in the best way, especially if you are a whiskey fan. Overall I'd highly recommend stopping by if you are up for trying something a little different, you won't be disappointed. read more

Strad Meadery is part of the Barrel District and must to stop by. We came by pretty late at night and it was empty but I guess it was pretty busy earlier because the Mead-tender had to bottle our mead fresh since she sold out of the bottles she premade for the day. I did get her name but the woman behind the bar was a delight. She offered so much knowledge of the process and was very informative. I've never had mead and found out it is fermented honey and more like a hard cider than wine. They source their honey from Woodland and Fresno. She even gave us a sample of honey they use. We got the flight, I was a little bummed they didn't offer very many flavors to choose from but was told they had a huge batch of their base fail and they had to toss it leaving them with not very many options. Which I get, stuff happens so I can't dock them for that. We did get traditional, pomegranate, blanc, hard cider and mix of traditional and the hard cider. I really enjoyed them all. It was like a sweet version of a basic hard cider with a hint of sour. At the end we opted for a bottle of the Pomegranate mead to take home but now I'm wishing we got some traditional too. Just another reason to come back I guess. They did say give them a month to get their new batch made so they can have more flavors on tap, so in a month we'll be back. Overall it's a really cute spot with good drinks! And the back story is a heartwarming. Mr. Strad used his retirement to build this business and he recently passed so his employees are keeping his dream alive. read more

Me and a friend of mines came in to try mead. I have never had mead and wanted to try it. We were greeted by the brewmaster who explained how mead was brewed and made. He told us that he only had a few flavors for tasting. We tasted the pomegranate and a natural mead. Both were delicious and very flavorful. Great service, delightful meads in a very cozy place. One can bring food in if they want. I did as I hadn't had dinner and didn't want to taste meads on an empty stomach. Loved the descriptions of what we were drinking. We tasted 5 meads, but only 3 were available for purchase to take home. I'd go again, but maybe after it cools off. It was so hot inside. Heard about this venue through Yaymaker/Paint Nite as a previous attendee, and although I didn't sign up for that specific event, I was curious enough to stop in for a tasting flight. Tried the tasting flight (1oz each) of the Traditional (honey), Yuzu (Asian Citrus), Blackberry, Blueberry, Pomegranate, and Dragonfruit flavored meads. Regular flights are 4oz I believe. My favorites were the Blackberry and the Dragonfruit. Will definitely return to try the Cherry when it's on tap again (some flavors seasonal like peach, watermelon, cranberry). They also had other things for sale like local kettle corn (we got the caramel one), wooden goblets/chalices, apparel, etc. as well as bottles/cases. Nice lightly carbonated sipping mead (nectar), some as smooth as if you were just drinking juice! Happy to try mead for the first time, and it won't be the last! read more

First had Strad mead at our first Renaissance faire. Then again at another renaissance fair. Then we found it at Whole Foods once, and it was like finding liquid gold! I've heard a lot about this mead places and decided to pass buy it on a marathon trip of local breweries. I wish I had come to this place first as I had already had quite a bit that day for a full tasting but I did soldier on with a few tastings. I half expected mead to be similar to cider but it definitely was a bit more subtle than most of the hard ciders I tried. On top of this, the meads seem to have a bigger ABV than their hard cider counterparts. Regarding this business, they are definitely one of the smaller places I've been to. It's nice and cozy but definitely a plant to visit with a small group as opposed to our group of 12. I ended up picking a bottle to take home but I can imagine coming here for the unique flavors they carry. If hard ciders are your favorite, this is definitely a place to try! read more

Great place to try different flavors of Mead. This is a new business tucked in Rancho Cordova on Mercantile Drive. We tried the cherry and cranberry mead. Both were very delicious and not too sweet. They are in the process of making a pomegranate and apricot Mead looking forward to tasting those in the future. If you are in the area and looking for something new to try this is the place to come. My husband and I have visited Strad Meadery several times. It's a small place with a handful of tables, a couch, and a long countertop bar. At each visit, we were greeted immediately by the owner who is always friendly and doesn't hesitate to let us know what's on tap and offers samples. I have no idea why mead (wine made with honey) isn't more popular: it's refreshing, affordable, and so easy to drink with its light alcohol content and fruit flavors. I love that Strad Meadery has different meads on tap and offers $1 off on a new purchase when you return the bottle. Save money/less waste! My favorites so far have been the traditional, blackberry, and pomegranate. But, I'm looking forward to trying their peach and cherry in the future! You might miss the storefront if you're not paying attention as it's on the plain side. But, they're absolutely worth a try and you might find yourselves hooked like we are! read more

With work just literally right down the street from this gem, I was finally able to make it in their last night! Procrastinating with my girls at work for almost two months to come and check this place out. Located in a business park area, is this little unique meadary. We were greeted by Daniel, who was our bartender. Very nice, welcoming and has quite the sense of humor which was reciprocated very well on our end. We started off with flights with all six flavors that were on tap. Very smooth and sweet mead all the way. This was perfect for me because I like ciders and champagne but not beer. Their mead is made and sweetened with honey and I personally loved every flavor. And the prices were too reasonable. $5 for a flight of five and $4 for 3oz. That's all I could take for the hour. They do have bottles to buy and take home, and a discount if you a buy a case. Big fan of this place! I was visiting a buddy in Vacaville and when I checked Yelp for meaderies in the area this place popped up. This being the Days of Covid tho, just because it exists doesn't mean that it's open. I called to check if they were open and they were with covid protocols and outdoor seating. So instead of heading south back to SF I headed north to Rancho Cordova. Upon arrival I was warmly greeted, I asked to do a flight from their large selection of meads and was NOT disappointed. In fact I rolled out of there with 3 bottles of product of which I have one left. I like my mead sweet and with a variety of flavors, where as others prefer a drier and less sweet option. This place had them all for some one to try. For me the cherry and watermelon were my faves although I enjoyed their traditional and dragon fruit flavors as well. This is well worth a trip from Sac-town or somewhere else nearby. Mead is the new craft beer! read more

This is a nice place: light and airy, welcoming, and the staff is friendly. The meads are around 7-8% ABV, lower than my homebrewed meads which come out wine strength, about 12%. The brewers achieve a lower ABV by filtering, adding fruit and/or more honey, then chill to retard further fermentation. So these are also much sweeter than homebrewed mead, somewhere around sauvignon blanc sweetness if memory serves. They're very pleasant beverages--even my wife liked what she tried, and she doesn't enjoy mead (she'd probably had only homebrew before). The traditional is a nice pleasant neutral mead, the closest to wine in flavor. The apricot is also enjoyable, and the strawberry was my favorite--very pleasant indeed. The only one I didn't care for too much was the cherry, and it's not like it was bad, just not as good (to my mind) as the others. The pomegranate was out of season so I didn't get to try it. So I give this place a thumbs-up. I'll probably bring Mom when she comes up to visit from Southern California. read more

I really enjoyed my visit to Strad Meadery! We had a flight of all the different meads available and then from there chose a glass of our favorite. I loved the blueberry (which I think is seasonal). We even bought a bottle. I also really liked the apricot, which has a nice tartness to it. Our mead-tender also told us about the cranberry mead for the holidays, which I definitely plan to have on my Thanksgiving table this year. I love that they give you a little discount if you bring back your used bottle, too. This is a great, super interesting local business I am happy to support! read more
