    Mead on tap
    Amber V.

Strad Meadery is part of the Barrel District and must to stop by. We came by pretty late at night and it was empty but I guess it was pretty busy earlier because the Mead-tender had to bottle our mead fresh since she sold out of the bottles she premade for the day. I did get her name but the woman behind the bar was a delight. She offered so much knowledge of the process and was very informative. I've never had mead and found out it is fermented honey and more like a hard cider than wine. They source their honey from Woodland and Fresno. She even gave us a sample of honey they use. We got the flight, I was a little bummed they didn't offer very many flavors to choose from but was told they had a huge batch of their base fail and they had to toss it leaving them with not very many options. Which I get, stuff happens so I can't dock them for that. We did get traditional, pomegranate, blanc, hard cider and mix of traditional and the hard cider. I really enjoyed them all. It was like a sweet version of a basic hard cider with a hint of sour. At the end we opted for a bottle of the Pomegranate mead to take home but now I'm wishing we got some traditional too. Just another reason to come back I guess. They did say give them a month to get their new batch made so they can have more flavors on tap, so in a month we'll be back. Overall it's a really cute spot with good drinks! And the back story is a heartwarming. Mr. Strad used his retirement to build this business and he recently passed so his employees are keeping his dream alive.

Mead? That's a new flavor for me, and I really enjoyed it! The cranberry apple and pomegranate cranberry flavors were delicious. The bartender was very knowledgeable, and we had a great discussion about mead and the fruits used to make it. They also had live music. Tip: If you buy a bottle to go and bring it back, you get a $1 bottle back.

Me and a friend of mines came in to try mead. I have never had mead and wanted to try it. We were greeted by the brewmaster who explained how mead was brewed and made. He told us that he only had a few flavors for tasting. We tasted the pomegranate and a natural mead. Both were delicious and very flavorful. The brewmaster said they would have a full mead in a couple of weeks. I bought a pomegranate mead and my homeboy bought a couple too. Ambiance is very customer friendly and has a lot of seating/parking.

I never have tried a mead. I met a coworker here who brags about the place. The inside is small but very cozy and the service is great. I tried both the traditional mead and peach. I prefer the peach. Both were really tasty.

Some friends and I stumbled upon Strad Meadery late one afternoon. It is a hole in the wall with a warm comfortable feeling inside. It looks like a place good for hanging out with friends and family. Strad is the only Meadery In the Sacramento area with locally produced mead. Mead is a brew derived from honey. Several different flavors are available, and I was told they vary based on the season. This establishment offers mead by the glass, tasting flight or bottle. Reasonable prices and friendly, helpful service. Interesting experience.

Heard about this venue through Yaymaker/Paint Nite as a previous attendee, and although I didn't sign up for that specific event, I was curious enough to stop in for a tasting flight. Tried the tasting flight (1oz each) of the Traditional (honey), Yuzu (Asian Citrus), Blackberry, Blueberry, Pomegranate, and Dragonfruit flavored meads. Regular flights are 4oz I believe. My favorites were the Blackberry and the Dragonfruit. Will definitely return to try the Cherry when it's on tap again (some flavors seasonal like peach, watermelon, cranberry). They also had other things for sale like local kettle corn (we got the caramel one), wooden goblets/chalices, apparel, etc. as well as bottles/cases. Nice lightly carbonated sipping mead (nectar), some as smooth as if you were just drinking juice! Happy to try mead for the first time, and it won't be the last!

Great place to try different flavors of Mead. This is a new business tucked in Rancho Cordova on Mercantile Drive. We tried the cherry and cranberry mead. Both were very delicious and not too sweet. They are in the process of making a pomegranate and apricot Mead looking forward to tasting those in the future. If you are in the area and looking for something new to try this is the place to come. Dan Slort is the Mead Maker and was very informative and friendly. The girls pouring the samples were very upbeat and very attentive. Strad Meadery is a place to relax and enjoy some great tasting Mead.

The best mead! Definitely recommend to everyone the environment was very friendly and the owners were so welcoming and friendly really made the experience even better!! This place is a bit hard to find since there are no signs.

My husband and I have visited Strad Meadery several times. It's a small place with a handful of tables, a couch, and a long countertop bar. At each visit, we were greeted immediately by the owner who is always friendly and doesn't hesitate to let us know what's on tap and offers samples. I have no idea why mead (wine made with honey) isn't more popular: it's refreshing, affordable, and so easy to drink with its light alcohol content and fruit flavors. I love that Strad Meadery has different meads on tap and offers $1 off on a new purchase when you return the bottle. Save money/less waste! My favorites so far have been the traditional, blackberry, and pomegranate. But, I'm looking forward to trying their peach and cherry in the future! You might miss the storefront if you're not paying attention as it's on the plain side. But, they're absolutely worth a try and you might find yourselves hooked like we are!

I recently enjoyed my first (and definitely not my last) dining experience at the HIVE tasting room and kitchen in Woodland, CA. I enjoyed it; the food was delicious and customer service on point. I went there with the intent of mead wine tasting but ended up not since I had driving duties. [Fun fact: mead wine has less alcohol content than grape wine.] Instead I ordered lunch and washed it down with their honey ice tea. The iced tea had a prominent honey taste. Hubs luved his, but my tastebuds were confused. Odd though because I luv honey and iced tea. We also ordered a Ruben sandwich $22 and an order of waffles. The sandwich was classic with the familiar flavors. Nice quality cut of meat, thinly shaved. The waffles $17 were topped with blueberries, slivered almonds, and orange blossom whipped ricotta cream which I asked for on the side. The ricotta cream was divine. The waffles tasted pretty darn good. However the pricing for both entrees seemed high for the serving size. But this is a type of place where folks can eat and linger to enjoy the grounds, atmosphere, and each other's company without anyone rushing you out. We enjoyed our meal out in the back outdoor patio. The landscaping is all organic with lots of pollinating and drought resistant plants and trees. The building is a zero energy building with an onsite brewing facility. The interior has a brand newish look and feel. There is a honey tasting and mead wine tasting counter, gift shop, and dining area. All of this is in an open floor plan. The indoor seating capacity is limited. The place can be rented out for events (such as a garden wedding), private facility tours. Plus they host community events. Take a peek at their website. Some events are free. Events range from tours, book readings, yoga classes, flower bouquet class, gardening... etc.

My favorite was the clover, although there definitely some interesting ones like avocado, mango, coffee, Hawaiian, and other regional ones I'd never heard of before! Some gave cinnamony notes, some marshmallowy, malty/cola-esque, and more. The hot honey was also a nice kick. Did not try any of their meads yet. They also had a few events coming up, including the Science of Mead and a Valentine's Day thing. When the weather is warmer I'll come back to hang out on the patio!

Each flight came with a detailed explanation of what we were tasting... covering the brewing process, alcohol content, and food pairings for each sake... and there was plenty of room for questions. That kind of walkthrough makes a real difference, especially if you're newer to sake. You leave actually knowing something. They also offer a small menu of snacks to go with the tasting, but I found the pricing pretty expensive ($18 for half a tiny round of Mt. Tam cheese and a handful of crackers). We did the Sequoia and Seasonal flights. Really liked the nigori and kimoto (aged 5yrs) -- all the sake had nice, crisp, and clean finishes. The umeshu in the seasonal was pretty good, but probably my least favorite of the samples.
